Run For Word (3:15)
Moon, Fragments (4:21)
Ordinary Days (3:36)
The Future Is Now (3:41)
Review: Tokyo-based post/math-rock noodlers Toe have a habit of cleansing the palette of each subsequent full-length they release with a follow up EP. Just like 2005's debut album The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety was followed up with 2006's New Sentimentality EP, the group would return three years on from their stellar 2009 sophomore effort For Long Tomorrow with 2012's The Future Is Now. From the twinkling emo-inflected shoegazing noodles of 'Run For Word' to the more acoustic-driven psych-jazz of 'Ordinary Days', the four cuts purposefully meander and fuse differing elements from the band's arsenal whilst somehow increasing the dense technicality to absurd, near impenetrable levels.

Review: Famous as the nephew of the world famous sitarist Ravi Shankar, Ananda Shankar carried the torch by contributing several greats to the continuing tide of prog rock and Western electronica. One such project was Sa-Re-Ga Machan, first released in 1981, and which lent a jungle-safari theme to the already established electronic rock fusions he'd laid down on his earlier self-titled record. Seguing through rollicking, schools-out psychedelic odysseys, not to mention humid, wonderfully sublime tropical soundscapes on which we can't tell what's synthetic and what isn't, this is an worthy new reissue from Life Goes On; worth every penny.

Review: Fabled jazz-rock group Soft Machine present this heartfelt tribute to one of the greats of British jazz - trumpeter Harry Beckett - covering his stunning 'The Dew At Dawn' on this limited edition 7" vinyl, with a cover of a classic Softs tune on the B-side. This is the second 7" in My Only Desire Records' Brit Jazz 45s series, which sees some of their favourite contemporary jazz acts each making brand new studio recordings of two classic compositions from the golden era of 60s and 70s British jazz.

Review: Estonian rock band Centre El Muusa hail from Tallinn and in vitally started out as experimental electronic duo Centre Electronique Muusa before evolving into the current set up in 2018. They have dropped a couple of tasty albums since 2020 and now contain with their explorations and fusions of the worlds of jazz, rock, folk, world and country with hints of kraut on the new 7" for Funk Night. 'Moonlight Horses' is a psyched out world of campfire guitars and star gazing riffs that leaves you feeling fully hippie-d up. 'Catching Stars' then heightens the trip with more angular guitars and a big wall of garage-rock sound.

Why Are We Sleeping? (3:35)
Joy Of A Toy (2:49)
Review: Pulled from the earliest days of The Soft Machine when they were closer to a psychedelic rock band than a tripped-out jazz concern, Universal Japan have reproduced a very limited single version of 'Why Are We Sleeping?'. The song itself is still a nebulous, twisting and turning freak ride riding on a satisfyingly heavy rhythm section, embellished with organs and following droll poetry to the pure 60s burst of the chorus, as masterful now as it was mind-blowing back in 1968. On the B-side, 'Joy Of A Toy' is a subtly funky affair laced with languid wah wah guitar and artful dynamic shifts from the mellow beginnings to a rollicking beatdown by the crescendo, and all in under three minutes. Collectors will especially enjoy the Japanese artwork on this unique single, but just having these two gems on a handy 7" is worth the price of entry alone.

Review: The Advanced Cookbook Of Mr Selig And Kanzler Z was a short-lived experimental jazz act also known as Cookbook. They put out one EP and two albums, with this 12" being taken from the debut. It came in 1989 and German label the Zoo In You initially and has the vocals of Mr Selig on the A-side, and guitar by Wolfgang Bokelmann and words by Dieter Pougin on the flip. An original will cost you more than a night at the pub and even finding samples online can be hard. Rest assured it is future jazz that still sounds futuristic today.

Review: We aren't sure who Inner Space Quartet are be we are sure you will like them. This is the second new music from them this month and it follows a busy 2022 in which they put out three head-turning 7"s on different labels. They seem to be settling for Funk Night as their home this year but soundwise are harder to pin down - there is Thai funk, space rock, jazz, psyched-out guitars and much more all contained with these two expansive and immersive sounds. 'Paranoia Party' is the really 60s-tinged narcotic opener then 'Delay' brings more rock guitar sounds as if from some secret and tripped-out Stones concert in the desert back in the day.

The Devil Tapes (part 1) (5:53)
The Devil Tapes (part 2) (5:41)
Review: People are not over-egging it when they try and tell you that Polish composer Andrzej Korzynski was an exploratory artist. Words like 'mind-bending', 'cosmic', and 'immersive' are often used in the same sentence as any reference to his name, let alone musical output, which remains some of the most sought after among fans of what can only really be described as staunchly experimental psyche.

For many, The Devil Tapes is the holy grail of Korzynski. Made to score Andrzej ?u?awsk's film, The Devil, by this point the pair had already worked together on the movie soundtrack to Possession, and cracked the collaborative process. Having been asked to make music that was "totally unique, like something from another planet", the composer took his initial taped experiments and pulled the vari-speed down, then layered hallucinatory effects over the top, resulting in something that's beyond a mere accompaniment, and very much integral to the film itself.

Now, five years later, they finally get to see the light of day. They could be 50 years old such is the quality of the musicianship - fusions of jazz and funk that brim with character. The band is made up of Monika Erdman, Rauno Vaher, Volodja Brodsky and Misha Panfilov who mix up cosmic Wurlitzer sounds, languorous synths and fresh drums, turning it into something laidback and psyched on the b-side and more funky and up-beat on the a-side.

Review: Le Disques Bongo Joe's joint release with Calico Discos was a superb EP back in 2020 and it still bangs today, hence the reissue. It offers up four fresh cuts from L'Eclair, a self-styled "exogroove post-internet" six-piece with three must-check albums to their name. Musically, the four tracks offer a breezy, summery and mixed-up blend of Tony Allen style polyrhythms, tropical funk guitars, languid synthesizer sounds, psychedelic electronics and copious amounts of mind-altering dub effects. Our favourites include the low-slung deep Afro-psychedelia of 'Dallas', the rousing, horn-heavy EP opener 'Cebando' (a future dancefloor staple for sure), and the Moog-laden sunrise dreaminess of 'Atlantis'.

The plan is to release DJ-friendly 45s that are either very rare or previously unavailable on seven-inch. On this new one come two pieces from esteemed library musicians - the well known pairing of Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett, and Dave Richmond. 'Name Of The Game' is a slow instrumental blues piece with beats ready to be plundered for hip-hop beats that once soundtracked a 1970s aftershave ad, while Richmond's 'Confunktion' is a motivational builder-upper with drums and organs aplenty.

Review: The Mars Volta's debut album remains one of the band's creative high-points. After the post-hardcore rush of At The Drive-In burst into flames, few could have dreamed something as ambitious and progressive as De Loused In The Comatorium could have emerged. The clue's in the word progressive, as Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Jeremy Ward pooled their resources (with some bass assistance from Flea) to create long, spiralling narratives around the concept of Cerpin Taxt, the comatose hero of this nebulous story. Still sounding visionary 20 years later, it was the start of an exciting new chapter for a band truly unlike any other.

Review: Anyone familiar with Tokyo, Japan's predominantly instrumental math-rock prodigies Toe, should already be clued into the fact that the member's prolific nature prevents them from resting on their creative laurels for long, with each full-length they drop bookended by an EP. 2005's debut LP The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety was followed by the 2006 EP New Sentimentality, while after 2009's outstanding For Long Tomorrow came The Future Is Now in 2012. At the time of writing, 2018's aptly titled Our Latest Number currently sits as the group's most recent EP; sandwiched in between 2015's sonically transformative Hear You and 2021's latest output DOKU-EN-KAI. Furthering the experimentation of its preceding full-length, the EP strays from their signature twinkling, mathy noodles and emotive shoegazing, and instead embraces elements of minimalism and trip-hop, whilst expanding their acoustic-driven nu-jazz flourishes, and even sprinkling some ethereal vocals into the mix.

Review: Japanese math/post-rock outfit Toe have become renowned for their virtuosic blend of jazzy, hyper-technical math-rock blended with emo shoegazing and tropical Balearic vibes. Originally released in 2006 as follow up to the band's 2005 debut full-length The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety, and beginning their trend of intersplicing each album cycle with an EP, New Sentimentality offers up four lengthy cuts running the sonic gamut of almost every water they wade within. Trading off noodling twinkles with acoustic pluckings, while abrasive jazz drum-fills clatter over the weaving gentle cacophonies, this is what happens when the emo kids become the new prog nerds.

The album seamlessly blends genres, from symphonic rock to Europop, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience. Tarja's powerful vocals take center stage, soaring effortlessly over the dramatic orchestration and infectious beats. Over the course of his long and successful career, Ennio Morricone composed many dance songs in step with the fashions of the late 60s and early 70s. These were themes not necessarily directly connected with his films' synopses, but which were nonetheless played in disco clubs, on jukeboxes, turntables and on the radio. This collection contains a selection of pieces such as the brilliant main theme from Grand Slam (1967); the shake rock (opening credits) from Dario Argento's classic Four Flies On Grey Velvet (1971) the danceable from the noir film Violent City (1970); the beat version of the opening credits of 'Pioggia Sul Tuo Viso' by the Sorrows, from How I Learned to Love Women (1966); 'Per Vittorio (Bossa)', an elegant bossa nova with flute and percussions from The Success (1963); the tribal shake from I Cantori Moderni, which winks at the dies irae from Garden of Delights (1967); 'Scuola di Ballo al sole', a wild surf piece from the Hawks and the Sparrows (1966); the supreme bossa nova from One Night at Dinner (1969) with the super iconic voice of Edda Dell'orso; the shake music of "'Ostinazione al Limone from What Have you Done to Solange? (1972); and 'Donnabossa' from Full Hearts and Empty Pockets (1964), a delicate bossa nova piece with a prominent harpsichord.

The album received widespread acclaim for its seamless collaborative qualities. New record Mythical River follows in the same vein, featuring six stellar compositions by keyboard virtuoso Ståle Storløkken and complemented by cosmic interludes. From hypnotic enchantment to precise polyrhythms, the album showcases the trio's continued excellence while drawing comparisons to bands from the '60s. However, Elephant9's sound remains contemporary, timeless, and even futuristic.

Following on from their self-titled debut, now the band are back with the first instalment of a two-part album release called Tarot - so far, so mystic. The groove on 'The Hierophant' is a great place to start in diving into the intoxicating headspace of the band, where some outernational instrumentation collides with the propulsive krautrock-informed rhythm section and the Canterbury scene's affinity for funk. It's a visceral trip no self-respecting pscyhonaut should be without.

Review: Not every live album makes the impact Vital did. Recorded at London's Marquee Club on 16th January 1978, it hit shops six months later, by which time the group had split (for the second time), making this more of a capsule of the past than was probably intended. It also turned heads for the often radical re-design of older tracks in the set list. The troupe had been known for on-stage intensity, but this tour was particularly ferocious. Captured using a 24-track mobile unit, the second of two performances in the UK capital was committed to tape, and then mixed down into Vital at Foel Studio by Guy Evans. After some serious magic was worked to clean up a sax track that suffered a technical fault, the finished product encapsulated the huge energy and atmosphere that defined the original date.

Review: The title of this three track time capsule from psychedelic prog-rock legends Pink Floyd is apt. As a band, the British heavyweights have always been known for their breathtaking live shows, and this is as much to do with the soaring guitar chords as the cacophonous climaxes, with many tracks given the kind of on-stage upgrade that creates a wild, juggernaut atmosphere. Concerts to lose yourself in. Recorded as the 1960s faded into a new age of rock, one that would see compositions become grander, more conceptual, and, ultimately, heavier, From Oblivion Vol.2: Live In San Diego October 17th 1971 seems to capture the spirit of that moment. A time when technological advancements, and frustration at the commercialisation of other sub genres, were feeding explorations in sound that seemed to look beyond our world and out into the great unknown.

The brainchild of Ruud Jolie; guitarist of symphonic metal legends Within Temptation, the LP sees the returning line-up of Leo Margarit (Pain Of Salvation), Kristoffer Gildenlow (ex-Pain Of Salvation) and Marco Kuypers (ex-Cloud Machine), whilst tapping the modern Dutch soulful r&b crooner Wudstik to handle lyrical/vocal duties. Soaring, swelling, cascading crescendos and dexterous noodling riffage weave and meander around saccharine melodies, leading to a vintage style of prog rock fearlessness delivered with modernised vision and a deft touch.

Review: Seattle was once the centre of the world when it came to alternative rock and is of course famous for being the home of grunge kings Nirvana. The Fire Theft is an alternative rock outfit from the same area and they came together first in 2001, formed from the ashes of cult emo band Sunny Day Real Estate. Made up of vocalist and guitarist Jeremy Enigk, bass player Nate Mendel (who also plays with the Foo Fighters) and sticks man William Goldsmith, they now celebrate the 20th anniversary of their one and only album with a special reissue. The last time this was reissued in 2019 it soon sold out and fetched high prices on secondhand markets, so do not sleep on this one.

Review: Prolific UK art-rockers Jethro Tull have suffered many a scrapped project, but perhaps none are so infamous as the never-to-be-named album recorded at the Chateau d'Herouville studio near Paris, attempted just before the release of their A Passion To Play Album in 1973. Despite riding high on the wave of stadium-bound acclaim, rumours abounded of a cursed project during this time: the band quickly nicknamed the studio "Chateau D'isaster" after a series of equipment failures, bed bugs and food poisoning. Despite this, they would return to the UK, not losing inspiration and endeavouring to record a trove of quirky material on master tapes back in London. While the bulk of this material would become A Passion Play, the Chateau tapes did indeed house an excess, and became the great lost album of Tull.

Review: Commonly regarded as the first official release from avant-garde prog/space rock outfit Heldon; Electronique Guerilla (also known as Heldon 1), served as a pioneering piece of studio experimentation and manipulation, utilising a myriad of guitar effects, tape delay and electronics, collated together by the genius of Richard Pinhas. Building the pieces from a Schizo (the earlier incarnation of Heldon) track together with solo guitar loops and electronic works, while warping elements from another collaborative cut with guitarist Alain Renaud, the fruitful, cosmic, proto-wave machinations are often credited as some of the earliest influences from King Crimson's Robert Fripp (who Pinhas cited as a major influence and master of the guitar) and Brian Eno, yet while in no way shying away from their inspirations, Pinhas has since specified that "Heldon 1 was released in '74 at the same time Muff Winwood released the first Fripp & Eno", so while similarities and comparisons are welcome, more attentive ears should be able to extract the nuanced differences with which Heldon crafted their hallucinatory, boundary-pushing early opus. Originally released on Pinhas' own Disjuncta Records and limited to 1000 copies, this long overdue reissue won't stick around anywhere near as long as these swelling brain-pieces.

Compiler Fred Und Luna features a couple of times including with the celestial synth charms and light electronic rhythms of 'Monotonikum' and elsewhere tried and tested talents such as Thomas Fehlmann with his widescreen cinematic cut' 'Permanent Touch' and minimal favourite Roman Flugel with his delightfully melodic and innocent 'Rules' bring plenty of class the adventurous and accomplished double album. Review: Red Dirt was a UK psychedelic prog rock group from the early 1970s. Band members included Dave Richardson, Ken Giles, Steve Howden and Steve Jackson and strangely, only released one album that is self-titled Red Dirt. The album has hit cult status many moons ago though and is considered one of the holy grails of UK progressive rock. The album is highly regarded for its raw sound and strong songwriting as well as the recording technics that were creatively used during the use of their studio time. This edition also pulls from Red Dirt II which was a previously unreleased rock and blues album recorded during the same time. So, here you get the bulk of what the band recorded during their time. Not only will progressive rock fans enjoy this but also blues rock and classic rock fans alike. Getting this piece of vinyl is like getting a piece of rock history. Act quickly! This comes on red vinyl complete with insert that chronicles the project.

Review: Meiko Kaji is renowned for her influential contributions to Japanese cinema and music and none are as standout as Gincho Wataridori which stands alone as a masterful musical odyssey that was first released in 1973. The record is a sonic tapestry that weaves traditional Japanese folk elements with contemporary arrangements all the while showcasing Kaji's evocative vocals and poetic lyricism. The title track, 'Gincho Wataridori,' encapsulates the album's ethereal beauty and finds Kaji's emotive delivery accompanied by lush instrumentation to create a haunting atmosphere that resonates with listeners. A cinematic journey throughout, Gincho Wataridori stands as a testament to Meiko Kaji's ability to transcend genres and craft timeless musical soundscapes.

Review: Baki is one of the best-selling Japanese anime and manga series of all time; the story centres on a quintessential shonen coming-of-age trope, funnelled into the character of Baki Hanma, who tirelessly trains and tests his fighting skills against a variety of different opponents in deadly hand-to-hand combat, with the ultimate hope of becoming a powerful warrior like his father. Kenji Fujisawa's original soundtrack for the anime series, now streaming on Netflix, is the perfect translation of this always-affecting theme; a whopping 60 tracks are spread across 3 vinyl discs in respective illustrated sleeves; Fujisawa's tense, eye-of-the-tiger timpani-bangers, which mesh well with NIN-style industrial rock, are perfect for the invocation of Baki's constant sense of confrontation and self-becoming. This record also comes with ane exclusive shikishi art print, as well as a four-page booklet.

Review: Over the course of his long and successful career, Ennio Morricone composed many dance songs in step with the fashions of the late 60s and early 70s.

Here, they have gotten the opportunity to press one of the most crucial releases in Folk and Progressing rock during the early 70s. English vocalist, guitarist and composer Roger Wootton first album as Comus is revered for many reasons within the Prog community musically. This version is pressed on clear 180-gram vinyl matching the overall clean look and packaging on this record that comes complete with insert that features some background on the project, plus a beautifully designed gatefold jacket. Review: You can't really imagine members of Dream Division doing anything other than being part of Dream Division. A band inspired and heavily influenced by the soundtracks, themes and moods of movies by directors such as Dario Argento and John Carpenter, theirs is a world filled with silver screen tension, sinister plots afoot, and incredibly cool noises. Legend of Lizard Lake is a case in point. Album title certainly no accident, invoking B-movie scenarios by the letter-load, the record is paced with fuzzy guitars, spine-tingling organs, Casio-choral lines, twinkled and chimed melodies, vast, open, almost-Western-yet-very-synthy open sonic frontiers, and the overwhelming sense that something, somewhere, might be watching us. Enough to make the Stranger Things scores sound like they've never seen Phantasm, or at least not recently, this is the whole retro-hued package.

Review: Outside of jazz-fusion circles, violinist and composer Jean-Luc Ponty is best known for two things: embracing synthesizers and electronic instruments (including electric violin) earlier than his peers, and playing a small but significant role in inspiring some of Detroit techno's earliest innovators. This double disc set rounds up three of the albums that proved most inspirational to electronic musicians. Disc one sports 1987's warm, colourful and mesmerising The Gift of Time - where, fittingly, Ponty's ability to create surprising and intense off-kilter dancefloor workouts was first noticed by adventurous DJs - and 1989's Storytelling, which kicks off with his most famous work: the awe-inspiring 'In The Fast Lane'. Over on disc two, we get 1991's Tchokola, an inspired mix of fusion, Afrobeat and Zouk flavours that has long been a favourite amongst Balearic silverbacks.

Review: Swedish multi-instrumentalist Kristoffer Gildenlow is a veteran of the nation's progressive hard rock and metal scene. His track record charts formative years with bands such as Pain Of Salvation, Neal Morse and Kayak, but more recent years have heard him move into increasingly solo, daimonic and personally-expressive directions. Empty is his latest masterpiece; a haunting album of loss, heartbreak, existentialism and grief, centring on the concept of walking wounded, whether in the abstract or concrete. Spoken word segments and softer downturns provide ample contrast, without which the albums more gushing moments, such as 'Down We Go', would not hit as hard.

Review: Family's final studio album, It's Only a Movie, celebrated its 50th birthday in late 2023. To mark the occasion, Esoteric has offered up this remastered, expanded edition. Disc one boats the original album, an extended fusion of blues, psychedelic rock, string-laden progressive rock and Country & Western-influenced Americana, as well as a handful of single B-sides, alternate takes and early versions of LP cuts. Over on disc two, we're treated to a mixture of BBC 'in concert' recordings (where their roots in the British blues explosion of the late 1960s are far more evident) and performances captured for BBC Radio One's legendary 'Top Gear' programme (which did much in the 1960s to bring Beatles performances to the masses).

Review: On his first solo album, 1981's Face Value, Genesis drummer-singer Phil Collins showed that he wasn't about to be left behind in the mire of classical-rock sludge. That LP boasted shorter songs and demonstrated that Collins had a true pop sensibility. Hello, I Must Be Going! continues that trend, with albeit some familiar patterns emerging, wrote Rolling Stone's John Milward; indulging a trend-bucking golden-oldie route, iridescing a rich luster of the classic rock old-school. This Analogue Productions (Atlantic Series) reissue of Hello, I Must Be Going! has the essential elements that make it a standout for your collection. First, the label turned to Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering to cut lacquers from a 1/4" EQ'd Dolby tape copy of the original master. Pressing on 180-gram vinyl is by Quality Record Pressings and RTI, the album comes housed in tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jackets with film lamination.

Review: Les Claypool is of course best known for spearheading Primus, the twisted funk metal pioneers that put slap bass at the top of the agenda. As a virtuoso musician with the most inquisitive of minds, Claypool naturally explored many other musical avenues beyond Primus' oddly-angled jams, and this box set does a damn fine job of summarising those exploits through the lens of his Prawn Records label. Spread across seven LPs, we're treated to remastered versions of projects such as The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains and The Fancy Band. Review: Larry Manteca's Zombie Mandingo album arrived back in 2013 and in the danced plus has only ever been available digitally. Now it makes its debut on wax and remains a bold listen that was devised as a soundtrack to a non-existent exploitation film. It fuses funk, jazz, and Afrobeat influences with plenty of niche cinematic references such as the zombies in Lucio Fulci's horrors and Umberto Lenzi's cannibalistic adventures. The resulting mash up is beguiling to say the least with horror-tinged exotica next to Fela Kuti rhythms and elements of Italian Library music and colourful psychedelia. A boundary pushing work to say the least.

Review: .You don't need to hear much on The YumYum Tree to understand how apt the story behind Ozric Tentacles is. A troupe which formed from an impromptu six-hour jam session which took place around a campfire during the 1983 Stonehenge free festival, the band name itself came about when an audience member asked guitarist and keyboardist Ed Wynne what the group - which included his brother Roly, Nick 'Tig' Van Gelder (later of Jamiroquai note) and Joie Hinton - were called. Originally dropping from the cosmos in 2009, The YumYum Tree is archetypal stuff from the outfit in question. Complex guitar solos taking us into the stratosphere, uptempo, highly commanding, cacophonic arrangements, star-gazing, mood-setting, deeply textured space rock, and moments of pure new age bliss. A journey to musical unknowns, captained by progressive rock visionaries.

Review: Osibisa's magnificent The Lost 70s Live Shows resurrects the pulsating energy of the Afrobeat and highlife fusion that defined the band's vibrant sound. Released as a testament to their dynamic live performances in the 1970s, the album captures the group's fierce genre-defying spirit with infectious rhythms, hypnotic percussion, and spirited horns. It is with these that the group create an immersive experience that transcends time with multicultural influences abounding throughout. Osibisa's lost live shows showcase their ability to ignite stages with an infectious blend of African, Caribbean, and jazz elements so do not sleep on this reissue.

Review: Lights Out was released in May 1977 and became the group's biggest album to date, reaching number 23 in the US. Michael Schenker's status as the most exciting guitarist in heavy rock was confirmed. The band were rejuvenated with a personnel change as Paul Raymond replaced Danny Peyronel and Leo Lyons, who had produced the band's previous three albums was replaced by Ron Nevison, whose work with Led Zeppelin had impressed and signalled the first in a stellar run of collaborations. An album rich in quality, title track 'Lights Out' offers an urgent portrayal of a dystopian London, dripping with "batons charging... The smell of anarchy". The song was inspired by the same thing that led Joe Strummer to write 'White Riot' for the Clash - the Notting Hill Riots of August 1976. Closing out the record is what Iron Maiden's Steve Harris has called his favourite song of all time, 'Love to Love', arguably the album's crowning achievement.

Review: While many solely know Rush as the iconic Canadian prog-trio to end all prog-rock acts, they didn't arrive right out of the womb with complex time signatures, Moogs synths and drumming god Neil Peart. All of these retrospectively essential identifiers of the band came organically over time, and by the stage they performed their legendary set at 1979's Pinkpop festival, all wheels were finally in motion. While 1976's 2112 is often heralded as the true arrival of Rush, it was the next two year's full-lengths, A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres, respectively, that charted their course full on into the realms of conceptual songwriting and challenging artistry. This collection captures an earshot of their set at the renowned Dutch festival, unveiling several of their virtuosic, astral compositions for unfamiliar enthusiasts who just wanted to rock, not think, and now you can get in on the immortalised bewilderment.

Review: London might be seen as one of the hottest places for new, urban jazz sounds, but this album Second Light from Kepler Is Free shows that Greece also has its own vibrant scene. Their debut album was a quickly sold out success and now the jazz rock ensemble is back with more expansive work that traverses the 60s, 70s, soul jazz, hip hop and experimental in all new ways. The band was founded in 2018 and though all members are relatively young, they show their maturity here with more widescreen and entrancing sounds that come in collaboration with LEX, one of Greece's best-known rappers.

Review: Fantastic Voyage: New Sounds For The European Cannon 1977-1981 is one of the most grandiose titles for a record we have come across in a while, but we like it. Fortunately for those involved, the music on this new gatefold heavyweight double album stands up to scrutiny for lovers of sounds that collide electronic, post-rock and experimental with synth, new wave and even a touch of new age ambient. The track list is a big one with tried and tested names like Patrick Cowley, Cabaret Voltaire, the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, Peter Gabriel and more all featuring. It makes for quite the trip and a fine reminder of the magical newness of electronic music back then.

Stranger Skies
Another World
Review: Stranger Skies is the fourth discographic chapter of multi-instrumentalist Roberto Vitelli's Ellesmere project, musically and visually strongly linked to the previous Wyrd, released in 2021. From an iconographic point of view, in fact, the collaboration with the famous illustrator Rodney Matthews, creator of a marvellous cover painting depicting two opposing worlds, one 'cold' - linked to the first four songs of the album - and one 'warm' - connected to the two long closing compositions - is here renewed. Stranger Skies thus once again deals with the theme of travelling and discovering new, unexplored worlds, the real trait d'union of all Ellesmere's records. Musically, we are fronting work that naturally follows in the footsteps of Wyrd; a magniloquent and energetic symphonic progressive rock, no longer largely instrumental as previously heard, but including a real singer that perfectly fits Roberto's songwriting: his name is John Wilkinson, co-author with Roberto of the title-track's lyrics. The main inspiration sources for this album are Genesis' 'A Trick of the Tail' and Rush's 'Moving Pictures'.
