As a fierce and fabulous homage to Hi-NRG, it showed the most muscular, nocturnal side of Baldo's sound and the track took on a life of its own. The previous two were so well received, this next one was destined to come out sooner than later. Perlon fans know what to expect from their label of choice and Ivan delivers the goods. Those addictively quirky and fonky jackin' minimal techno jams. The title track is that and then some! We especially like the sexy jam 'Waiting For My Love'. Expect the unexpected when you flip over the record as 'Close the Door' is a full-on acid banger that combines high energy techno into what sounds like a video game soundtrack theme song! Closing things out is the wild sounding 'Fear & Madness in the Desert'. We are smiling at the thought of someone playing out these corkers to audience. Expect to see WTF typefaces everywhere!

Review: Scopic Records - a new UK label which aims to "bring newcomers and artists with backgrounds, regardless of their background or gender" - launches with a single by its founder New Digital Fidelity in collaboration with singer Monet. We get three nicely different mixes of 'Getting Colder' in all. The A-side is taken up by the club mix, a classic New York deep house groove with chunky pianos chords and Monet's confident vocal performance. The flip begins with the original, a slower version but still effortlessly groovy, bringing its soul, jazz, and R&B influences to the fore. US techno's man of the moment Byron the Aquarius completes the set by turning the track inside out with shuffling hats, snapping machinefunk snares and a bubbling bass, making it even more impressive by exposing its moving parts and giving them a neat polish.

Review: Semi Delicious go full flavour for this new various artists EP to mark their 15th vinyl outing. It's Demi Riquisimo & Michelle Manetti who kick off with the surging house stylings of 'All I Need,' a vocal laced peak time track with rushy feels. Corbi cooks up some rugged broken beats on the sleepy 'Kraken' then Lulah Francs & Nebari tap into he Peech Bosy classic for the vocal top line of their 'Don't Make Me Wait' and pair it with classic analogue drum clatter and gurgling bass brilliance. The flip has three more tunes including the rave of 'Nairless' and blissed out, sun up cut 'Release It' by Last Magpie. Jive Talk's 'Wizards Slippers' is a lovely electro bubbler to round out a diverse EP.

Review: Humanoid Recordings co-founder 4d lays down another four-track 12" for the label, scouring the weightier and scrapier ends of minimal and acid house, all while teasing out a retro-robotic edge. Only an artist with a real sense of humour can invoke ideas of 'Stupidity' and 'Quantum Theory' in the same breath; both tracks betray the unified whimsy and intelligence that a successful acid house and techno artist must portray in order to win hearts. The latter uses a particularly sticky, hard-to-pin-down 4x4 kick style; contrast to B1 'World In Our Head', which portrays a psychic model of the outside world through trilling trance lines, and the meek glissandos of 'Sowie Lockers', securing an indeterminate but funky mood.

Review: Aad de Mooy is better known as Paradise 3001 and has been releasing his fulsome take on techno since the mid 90s. Blue Highway is an EP from back then, 1994 to be exact, and it has aged faultlessly because these tracks will slot into any modern set without a problem, and likely be some of the best in it, in fact. It kicks off with the warped synth and bass entanglements of 'Mind & Motion' before the more gloopy and cosmic bass of 'Ludomil 75'. It's a masterful bit of future music that's followed by the vibrant Jaydee-like 'Blue Highways' and dreamier scapes of 'The Gates Of Dawn' and progressive cosmic funk of 'Mellow Moebe.'

Review: Olsvanger lays out his vision of tech house here on a superb EP for RAND Muzik that is a perfect mix of OG sounds and styles and new school thinking. It is a fat bassline that immediately gets your attention on 'Phantom Lady' - it brings real funk to the snappy drums and swirling cosmic pads. 'Lotusing' immediately flips the script with a mix of rough-assed broken beats and glistening pads full of optimism. Review: The Revivis-run Santo Tomas label launches a new edits offshoot devoted to reworking less obvious, forgotten house and prog gems from the 90s. The A-side is a collision of techno, prog and trance with cosmic synths, twitchy pads and plenty of old school stabs. The flip is a little more stripped back - the drums slap, the acid lines grow ever more wild, and a steamy and sensuous vocal sample is run through the middle for maximum emotional impact. Review: DJ Life's music will invigorate any dancefloor you care to test it on. The Welcome label head DJ Life was also out on Program Earth back in summer and now heads over to the excellent Craigie Knowes for there more high class electronic trips. 'Whomnp' kicks off with a paced progressive techno mind melter that is wired up with screw synths and sci-fi motifs, while 'Frayed' has more psychedelic colours twisting and turning their way over filtered vocal fragments and supple drums. 'Transmission' closes down with stomping drum funk that is again lit up by some celestial melody.

Review: It has been well over a year since we last heard from Mayurashka which is a shame because that last outing on Ladybug out of Japan was a fine deep house excursion full of fresh ideas. Animals Dancing is the label where we are now finally treated to more of that with the Guidance to The Sennou label. The title cut is full of gloopy synth lines and paddy drums ambient details and a warm neon glow. 'Percaholic' is darker and more physical, with train track grooves and warped bass melting the mind before 'Sashima' gets back to more clean synth loops and airy cosmic vibes. 'Upperhorse' shits down with Far Eastern melodies and bird calls over a downtempo drum line.

Review: German progressive house duo Andhim specialize in bringing out the genre's sentimental side, and their latest single 'I Love You' is a masterful case in point. Describing their sound as "super house", the pair evidently only choose the most serene and gut-punching sounds and samples going in, and 'I Love You' exemplifies this, with its knife-edge, repetitive vocal and swellingly pink chords, which recall the French house climaxes of The Paradise or Daft Punk, and/or the more recent, well-rounded post-10s uplifts of Bicep. Of course, the B-side must provide the mirror image, on which the equally powerful emotion of hatred is explored. Hatred isn't exactly a house music go-to, but the psychologist in us feels compelled to remind the reader that love and hatred, aren't binary opposites, and are closer together than we often think!

Review: Having dipped into the label's bulging archives earlier in the year to offer up a freshly remastered edition of 'Klarky Kat' by Gumbo (a rare collaboration between label bosses Attaboy and Swag's Chris Duckenfield), Toko has returned to the vaults for another essential reissue. 'In Too Deep' hails from 1997, when it marked the fifth release on the Sheffield-based imprint. Reflective of the sound played at legendary Sheffield deep and tech-house party Scuba, the title track is a sultry and saucer-eyed affair, with sustained synth-strings, tactile riffs and luscious melodic motifs wrapping around an hypnotic deep house-meets-tech-house groove. In contrast, 'In Deeper' is a much more minimalistic, tech-tinged affair, close in sound and tone to Swag productions of the period - all deep, undulating bass, effects-laden weirdo noises and locked-in beats.

It finds the artist returning to Simona Faraone's label after several years and finds him exploring electronic sounds of the 70s and 80s, blending Berlin school minimalism with Detroit techno's soul and funk. It is a record that ranges in mood and tempo as it heads into oceanic depths where wispy pads and chattery percussive patterns collide in unusual ways. Review: Simona Faraone's label, New Interplanetary Melodies, welcomed Feel Fly for an EP that is "inspired by the ancient and mysterious Etruscan culture, whose peoples inhabited the historical-geographical region of central Italy." He hails from Italy himself of course and has written soundtracks for movies as well as great dancefloor tunes. The tracks here combine dreamy melodies with hurried breakbeats, corrugated acid techno jams and 90s post-rave house sounds that carry you on waves of blissed-out pads. It adds up to an EP that feels steeped in ancient ritual as well as having one eye on the future.

Review: The cuddly deepness just oozes out of these new jams by Nico Lahs right from the off. 'One More Time' has smooth edges, humid pads and frictionless drums with just the right amount of skip to keep you locked. Elsewhere there is a more jumbled percussive sound to 'Imagination', which has scruffy kicks and Detroit pads to keep you vibing. 'Shake Dat' then gets a little more rough and ready, basement style. The chords are still lush but the drums punchy that bit harder to get the party amping. Textbook and timeless stuff.

This EP is very much the corner from Forces of Nature, with authentic 90s soundscapes mixing up lush ambient synth designs, dreamy Italo drums and real musical depth. Review: Just a week after dropping its first release - a fine reissue of a 1993 techno classic - VIL is back with another superb EP. Pop Panic's People on Earth is an experimental and leftfield take on techno with freewheeling rhythms built from strange sound sources. The Sound Down version of the title track is all silvery synths and loopy tech drums with twanging metal lines and snaking dub bass. 'Pop Panic (Secrets Inside)' then picks up the pace with a heavily layered and tightly interwoven mix of drums, hits and synths that work your bones loose and 'Pop Panic (Suite 999)' goes deeper, darker and more spare.
