The Old Euphonium marks a welcome return for Jim Baron (Crazy P, Ron Basejam etc) and Benjamin J Smith's occasional collaborative project, White Elephant. They begin with the smoky blue-eyed soul shuffle of "Don't Change Your Way", where brilliant piano parts and dubbed-out vocals stretch out over an organic groove, before inviting Manatee member Huw Costin to add his impassioned vocals to the AOR disco-goes-Balearic vibes of "Blood". On the B-side, you'll find the hushed, sun-kissed grooves of "Up For Air", and the glistening, sun-brought adult contemporary pop of "Tears". It's arguably the strongest moment on a pleasingly solid E.P.
