After dedicated 2019 to single releases, Victories At Sea are finally ready to follow up their debut album with a second long-form affair. And what an affair it is - a soaring, vast and adventurous outing, musically poetic, lyrically astute and overwhelmingly powerful, you can hear just how much the impressive setting of Scotland's Lock Fyne, where this was recorded, has been distilled onto album. The Birmingham outfit haven't completely cast off all urban influences to go full-blown wild men, but you can genuinely pick up on the freedom and wilderness of where they created this collection. There's so much ambition to explore ever-greater emotional heights on 'Quiet House', the stormy 'Late' is like an aural interpretation of Scotland's changeable weather. We could go on, but let's just say this is a mature and exceptionally complete rock record.
