Highway Companion CD

Tom Petty will release 'Highway Companion', his debut for Rick Rubin's American Recordings label and third solo release, on July 24th. The eleven-track album is Tom Petty's first since 2002's 'The Last DJ' and was produced by Jeff Lynne, Petty's long-term collaborator and former Traveling Wilburys bandmate. Petty contributes vocals, guitar, drum, harmonica, electric piano, bass and keyboards to 'Highway Companion' whilst Lynne adds bass, guitar, keyboards, backing vocals and Autoharp. The Heartbreaker's Mike Campbell, who has also worked with Johnny Cash and Jackson Browne, is the final musician to feature on the album with guitar and vibraphone contributions. "It's just a really nice collection of songs", said Petty. "I think it has an underlying theme of time and what it does to you". Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are touring the U.S. from June through to August with Pearl Jam, The Allman Brothers and Phish's Trey Anastasio amongst the various supports on the tour.
