Also known as The Kilimajaro Darkjazz Ensemble, this formidable outfit of players has led a storied life so far with releases on Planet Mu and Ad Noiseam. This strain of their output is focused on live improvisation, captured in nerve-shattering fashion here on this live recording from Overtoom 301 in Amsterdam in 2007. The drones are heavy, the mood austere at times, willfully oppressive at others. Around the slow release of the performance, there's space to feel the intensity of each sustained note, whether wrung out of a cello or tweaked through a bank of electronics.
