Another clever release from Originals, Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes" has been sampled by some of the biggest names in hip-hop history; Kanye, Jay-Z, Wu Tang, J Dilla, Public Enemy... The list genuinely goes on and on. A classic piece of soul funk, it's hard to spot the breakbeat sample as the tune's so embracive and funky. For a remix-rendition Originals have picked Divine Force's "My Uptown Beat". Probably the rarest of the lot, it's a formative piece of late 80s hip-hop when b-boys were gearing up to jump the shark. An excellent, not to mention damn funky, history lesson!
