Strait II Dat is arguably one of New York deep house legend Ronald Burrell's more obscure aliases. He only ever used it once, for the Nervous-released You're In Da House EP way back in 1993 - an atypically bumpin' and more New Jersey garage influenced four-tracker that remains its' potency to this day. Here, that EP gets a timely reissue, with each of Burrell's four tracks getting the re-master treatment. There's naturally much to admire, from the sub-heavy bump, darting synth-brass and vibraphone solos of "You're In Da House", to the Tony Humphries-friendly early morning garage of "It's 3.00" (an anthem to the joys of dancing at three in the morning, no less). Best of all, though, is "Electric Native", a thrilling combination of voodoo drums, garage organs and weird tribal sounds.
