When Skinny Puppy first released Last Rights it was a memoir of the band's own collapse, and an unnerving parable on the tidal wave of mental health problems that can break land once drug use reaches full-blown addiction, and people no longer have any control of themselves. Or, to put all that another way, by this point vocalist Nivek Ogre was struggling to separate fantasy from reality, and bandmates were in similar positions.
The fact the LP even exists is something of a testament to the outfit's dedication to their craft - as is laying bare the inner-workings of an industrial noise group in freefall with no parachute. It's also the apex of their artistic expression, calling on the savage elements that made preceding full length efforts so exceptional, that dark and uncompromising challenge to the human ear, but accentuating the chaos and confusion, darkness and despair. Be warned, then, there are several demons in here; we recommend hearing them all.
