First Word's first release of the year and Quiet Storm's first substantial release since his album The First Day, "Human Being: The Short Story Of A Reed" is a beautiful conceptual narrative that explores the idea of a reed yearning to be human but discovering it's not quite as easy as it looks. The music is, however, as beautiful as you'd expect from the Parisian composer. Ranging from the soft pensive vocal texture allure of opener "Human" to the eventual dizzying bewilderment of the finale "Being" by way of stimulating chapters such as the lucid bossa "The Reed" and the eerie, night fog horse ride "Risk It", this is a stunning, stirring piece of work that reveals more and more on every listen.
