Forever navigating the lines between freedom and insanity, Otto A. Totland returns to Sonic Pieces after a flurry of appearances under aliases like Supine or Deaf Center. His last outing under said name was back in 2014 but, judging by the sounds of this masterfully balanced piece of neo-classical, his music isn't a product of improvisation. Instead, everything on The Lost has its time and place, floating gracefully between subtle ambient sounds and crestfallen piano solos. The sounds of the opening alone, "The Lost", are enough to give anyone the shivers, and this bittersweet voyage of instrumental ballads continues on tracks like "Anona", or even the quirkier "Greiner". If there is one thing to take from this beautiful album it's that classical music is far from dead, and it's thanks to artists like Totland that electronics are getting a good name amongst the intellectuals.
