An album title either throws you off the sonic scene or is so apt you couldn't imagine it ever being called anything else. Unemployment Line Disco is the latter - Modern Ruin summoning the spirits of Black Devil Disco Club, Andrew Weatherall and Suicide, among others, to deliver an ode to Arturo Micro brute synthensizers, and the beats that have always hidden in between the dominant dance genres.
As punk as it is electro as it is New Wave as it is coldwave as it is something else, it's a dark and reverb-soaked space that's equal parts dystopian and sweaty venue. From the strange, unsettling broodiness of 'Monkey', through the stepping, arpeggiated chaos of 'Cement Dust', onto the tracking, nightmarish scapes of 'Nothing Blues' and the rockabilly chug of 'Permanent Vacation', it's as much a reminder of the clubs we want to be back inside as it is the hopelessness of pandemic life.
