Given the undoubted strength of Melbourne's electronic music scene right now, it makes perfect sense that someone should attempt to document it. With Oceans Apart, indie-dance heroes Cut Copy have done just that. This first sampler (a second is also available) boasts some previously unheard or little-known cuts from a range of well known and soon-to-breakthrough producers. There's a dash of shimmering, emotion-rich analogue Balearica from Roland Tings, a dash of acid from Nile Delta (the surging "Aether"), and some Young Marco-ish melodious deep house from ESP Institute affiliated producer Michael Ozone. Best of all, though, is Andras & Oscar's "Music Is My Life", another deliciously deep and evocative journey into Junior Boys-ish melancholic pop.
