Almost certainly the greatest musical force to come from Oldham in recent memory., Kiran Leonard may be only twenty years old, but his ambition apparently knows no bounds, and on this second album he displays an artistic vision to match his mighty chutzpah. Ornate structural convolutions do battle here with garage rawness and fearsome emotional intensity, and whilst his voice may often recall the spiritually intimidating wail of Jeff Buckley, these songs are happy to navigate everything from the gloriously meandering prog epic 'Pink Fruit' to the Pavement-tinged off-kilter indie of 'Exeter Services'. In short, 'Grapefruit' could well mark the arrival in earnest of a major new talent.
