After strong releases on Perc Trax and Electric Deluxe (the latter in collaboration with Raiz), Chicago's Jeff Derringer pummels Italian imprint M_Rec with a Berghain-inspired techno 12". "Ambition" holds down a cavernous locked groove, spirited by delayed synth shots, flinchy bleeps, subtle rim shots and cupped claps. "Compassion" delves deeper into the night, lowering the BPM slightly. Derringer also employs a filtered version of his developing trademark springy chords. More Derringer twang features in "Shame", which he couples with piqued synths and zippy scratches. Brendon Moeller strips back Derringer's original with a focus on an upfront electro bassline.
