Canadian sound artist Ian William Craig appears for the legendary FatCat Records 2.0 aka 130701, recently kick-started back into action with the Centres LP. He is said to have composed the bulk of the music by recording his classically trained voice and analogue synthesizers on a variety of antiquated and nearly destroyed reel to reels and tape machines. The entire album shares the same degraded texture as William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops (said to have been an influence) and creating a truly visceral listening experience. These haunted yet bittersweet compositions are awash in tape saturation, drenched in distortion; a certain beauty lurking beneath all that surface noise. All in all, it's quite breathtaking and highly recommended listening.
