1. | "The Theme 2008" (Carl Craig mix) |
Originally released in 1995, Hot Lizard's 'The Theme' became a benchmark release in the mid-90s deep house scene, beefed up by remixes from Detroit's Carl Craig, Charles Webster (under his Love From San Francisco guise) and Mark Broom.
Produced by Charles Webster, Gary Marsden and Paul Wain, 'The Theme' was an epic deep tech hybrid, bridging the gap between the deep house sound and the more progressive tech-house records that dominated the late 90s.
This vinyl re-release includes two brand new remixes from original producer Charles Webster, and the original Carl Craig remix. Webster's 'Version' remix sees him collaborate with fellow Nottingham producer Atjazz, and together they weigh in with a fantastic punchy remix, with haunting live flutes, metallic stabs and shimmering electronics. Very much the sound of now, sophisticated deep house with traditional techno influences. Webster goes solo for his Charles Webster 2008 remix, stripping things right back for a delicate and brooding house production, getting its warmth from the haunting chords. On the flip, Carl Craig's swirling and minimalist re-working is based on the pulsing rhythms of the human heartbeat, and surely sits in the top 10 of his classic remixes. Back out on vinyl after a long absence, Craig's mix proves again that his productions and remixes always remain timeless.
