Here's something to set the pulse racing of all jazz heads: a first commercial release for the recording of legendary trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's infamous 1973 live performance at Studio 104 Maison de la Radio (ORTF) in Paris. It's long been one of his most talked-about performances - not least because it was filmed (it can be viewed on a popular video sharing site) and Hubbard was backed by fellow greats George Cables (electric piano), Michael Carvin (drums), Junior Cook (tenor sax, flute) and Kent Brinkley (double bass). The four included tracks are incendiary, extended versions of some of Hubbard's finest compositions, with the takes on 'Povo' and 'First Light' standing out.
