Over the course of his career to date, Norwegian dark ambient explorer Erik Skodvin has offered up enough extremely atmospheric recordings to suggest that he could deliver some seriously good film soundtracks. Director Mo Scarpelli thought so and in 2019 got Skodvin to score his acclaimed documentary film about a rural Ethiopian boy adapting to life in the city of Addis Ababa, Anbessa. Skodvin's ambient score - dark, otherworldly, evocative, melancholic and occasionally stiflingly claustrophobic - is certainly stunning, as this deserved vinyl pressing proves. Furthermore, the film's short length left plenty of space on the reverse side of the record, which Skodvin has filled with a plethora of field recordings and locked grooves.
