French producer DJ Steaw has tended to do his own thing, self-releasing many 12" singles, with only occasional outings on established imprints such as Local Talk. He's clearly impressed Hot Haus boss Rupert Cogan, though, as he's snapped up this fine collection of peak-time bangers. Steaw begins by peppering a bombastic, revivalist warehouse groove with Sterling Void samples, banging pianos and sweaty synth stabs on "Get Down", before taking things deeper and dreamier on the accompanying Dub mix. Flip for the fabulously muscular "Frogman", which sees our hero take inspiration from both the thumping, basement-bothering productions of Sound Factory-era Junior Vasquez, and the more hypnotic deep house sounds of vintage I:Cube.
