Being free of the desire to make regular Soulwax records has allowed David and Steven Daewele the opportunity to develop their own Deewee studio and work with a wide range of artists and musicians on a variety of projects. The results have frequently been released on the accompanying - and never less than essential - Deewee label, which here marks its 50th release with a double-disc retrospective. It's a superb, largely synth-heavy set all told, with the brothers and their talented musical accomplices flitting between a variety of complimentary styles (deep synth-pop, new wave soul, throbbing club cuts, experimental soundscapes, Beach Bots style dream pop and so on) while regularly thinking outside the box. In a word: essential.
