Versus CD

Carl Craig first started working with Paris' Les Siecles Orchestra and classical pianist Francesco Tristano well over a decade ago. Versus, then, has been a long time in the making. A true collaborative project, it features both orchestral interpretations of a string of Craig classics - "Sandstorms" and "At Les" included - alongside the Detroit producer's versions of works by Tristano and Les Siecles Orchestra. As Jeff Mills has proved on numerous occasions, orchestral/electronic collaborations can work well, and so it proves with Versus. At times it's intricate and evocative, at others throbbing and grandiose, as befits interpretations of tracks whose appeal is based, in part, on their locked-in, repetitive hypnotism.
