For the latest in an ongoing series of compilations dedicated to showcasing music he played at early cosmic disco club Typhoon, veteran Italian DJ Beppe Loda has decided to gather together some of the tracks that helped put the Afro into the 'Afro-cosmic' sound. Predictably percussion-heavy from start to finish, the collection offers up an ear-catching mixture of relatively well-known favourites (the Unknown Cases' druggy 'Masimbabele', Guem Et Zaka Percussion's peerless 'Le Serpent'), overlooked cuts (Hugh Masekela's mid-80s, synthesizer-powered cover version of Fela Kuti favourite 'Lady', 'Somewhere in Africa' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band) and genuinely little-known gems (Burundi Stephenson Black's dense tribal drums workout 'Burundi Black' and the kalimba-sporting brilliance of Paulinho da Costa's 'Terra').
