Review: The art of the remix is no doubt indebted to NYC legends such as Shep Pettibone and Arthur Baker. It's quite fitting then that the latter should curate some of the greatest moments of the former on part two of The Classic 12 Inch Master Mixes Volume One. Pettibone's innovative approach to remixing throughout the '80s and early '90s has had a lasting impact on dance music. Featured on here are his renditions of B B & Q's '(I'm A) Dreamer' where he gets that perfect late night boogie-down vibe in effect, as well as Lionel Richie's classic 'Love Will Conquer All', perfectly streamlining the groove of The Salsoul Orchestra's 'Ooh, I Love It (Love Break)' and lending his deft hand to First Choice's anthemic 'Let No Man Put Asunder' among many others.

Review: Having previously worked with SBTRKT, Kanye West, Drake, Jesse Ware and Frank Ocean, amongst others, Sampha is no newcomer. This, though, is the British singer, songwriter and producer's debut album, and it's something of an understated gem. One particularly enthusiastic reviewer called it "an R&B album for the ages"; while that may be pushing it a bit, there's no denying that Process is an impressive collection of tracks. The beats are inventive, the electronics crisp, the samples carefully chosen, and the musical touches pitched just right. At the centre of it all stands Sampha, delivering thoughtful, heartfelt and sometimes poignant lyrics in his wonderfully evocative voice.

Review: Testament to Rina Sawayama's showstopping success in the alternative pop market over the past few years, her most recent album Hold The Girl has already seen a reissue via its original label Dirty Hit, just one year after its release in 2022. Review: Scritti Politti made three albums for Virgin and all of them are now being reissued by band leader Green Gartside's current record label, Rough Trade, this year. Cupid & Psyche 85 first came in 1985 and is now presented with new sleeve notes that reunite Gartside with keyboardist and co-producer David Gamson. These are the first reissues of any kind from Scritti Politti, and it coincides with a forthcoming tour that runs in autumn and celebrates 35 years of Cupid & Psyche 85. Politti's brand of alternative indie is close to as sweet as it gets on this record, with plenty of sensuality and sweet but never sickly pop tropes.

Review: If you've never been to Leeds then let's put it like this i Scritti Politti make a lot of sense if you know the city well enough. Long before 'the first Harvey Nichols outside London' and the refurbishment of the historic arcades there was dereliction and squats. If you look hard enough, you'll still find them, but it's out of that 1970s economic woe that Scritti Politti emerged, kicking, screaming and squatting while blending various spheres of influence into a punk framework.
