Test #03
Test #03 (12")
Cat: WXT 003. Rel: 05 Jan 21
  1. Balance (7:12)
  2. Hybrid (6:53)
  3. Light (7:10)
  4. Molecular (7:24)
Review: Weirdtracx out of Argentina reaches release number three and with it continues to bring freshness to the world of minimal and tech house. Matias Chaple Aka Matichap is one of the members of chapsenza (from the Relik label) and has an infectious style when working solo. 'Balance' is slick, funky deep and cosmic house music with interesting sound design and hooky motifs to draw you in. 'Hybrid' is more cosmic funk with cyber sounds, deep bass and driving beats while 'Light' continues in that trend of being both heady yet physical music with plenty of curious details. 'Molecular' closes out with the most high speed groove of the lot, but picking a favourite here is futile - all do a fine job.

Collision EP
Collision EP (hand-numbered 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: DVRM 005. Rel: 07 Jan 21
  1. Moreon & Baffa - "Encircle 3" (6:57)
  2. Gari Romalis - "Stick An Move" (Cobo mix) (6:43)
  3. Jnn Aprl - "Insecure Alien" (2:38)
  4. Isaac Prieto - "Late Night" (6:20)
  5. MGUN - "Shadows" (6:51)
Review: After just over two years out of the game, the overlooked Detroit Vinyl Room label - a stable previously responsible for unleashing some superb deep house - has finally sprung back into action. The Collision EP is a multi-artist affair with many must-check highlights, with our picks including the drowsy, tech-tinged late night deep house hypnotism of 'Stick An Move (Cobo Mix)' by Gary Romalis, the distant, jackin'-in-space acid squelch of Jnn Apprl's 'Insecure Alien', the ultra-deep and trippy, early morning haziness of Isaac Prieto's brilliantly odd and angular 'Late Night', and the horizontal, sofa-bound instrumental hip-hop of MGUN's blazed 'Shadows'. Recommended.

H
H (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AESTHETIC 12. Rel: 04 Jan 21
  1. H (7:44)
  2. I (7:09)
  3. J (6:56)
Review: Aesthetic stride into 2021 with more of that surefooted, stripped back dancefloor finery that makes them a buy-on-sight for serious minimal house heads. Relic is at the controls this time around, leading in style with the sombre keys and snappy rhythms of 'H'. On the flip, 'I' has a more airy feel to it thanks to artfully sculpted atmospheric tones that linger around the crisp and shuffling beat. 'J' calls to mind some of the dubbier micro house of the mid 00s era with its sliced up, twitchy samples and nagging groove, complementing the other two floor burners on this high grade 12" perfectly.

Abduction004
  1. Userunknwn & Soyro - "Signum Proxima" (8:11)
  2. Bucurie - "Time For Space" (6:44)
  3. Rares Romanov - "Rush Hour" (7:16)
  4. Cerec - "Pulmotor" (7:48)
Review: Following the explosive Direkt EP last summer, Rowle Music's vinyl-only project Abduction return to their V/A roots with four fresh flavours from exciting new acts hailing from every corner of the minimal galaxy. Userunknwn and Soyro tag team for a silky dubbed out adventure that's not dissimilar to Sascha Dive. Romanian newcomer Bucurie follows with a slab of psychedelic breaks before we flip for two more dark gems. Rares Romanov taps into that hip-shaking, conga-fuelled Luciano vibe before Cerec closes the show on the warmest tip of the set. Bouncy, fat but still stripped back, think Swayzak or Luke Solomon's output from the early 2000s and you're in the right playground. Bon voyage.

Its Over
Its Over (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIVID 01. Rel: 06 Jan 21
  1. Its Over (6:02)
  2. We Rewind (6:03)
  3. Slow Down (6:02)
  4. Pick Up Roll On (6:15)
Review: Blazing out of the blocks with a sound fully charged for the breakbeat revival, Yosh inaugurates Vivid with this appropriately vibrant set of UK bass music belters. Taking the best elements from jungle, garage and more, lead track "It's Over" bursts forth in a cascade of rolling drums before the moody sub bass stylings of "We Rewind" takes over. Things get a little more aquatic on crafty tripper "Slow Down", and then the drums come right to the forefront of the mix on crisp and deadly EP closer "Pick Up Roll On." With impeccable production values and a liberal dose of UK rudeness, this is an essential fresh grip for anyone wanting some fresh jungle derivatives in their lives.
