Rufus - "Conseguenza" (Cab Drivers remix) (8:44)
Review: New label Lumbago drop a new, tasty, hand-stamped house belter to soothe all of your winter blues, and it's clear that the imprint are very much here to stay. Instead of going for the glory-hunting, they've decided to release music from a selection of rising names, but from the sounds of "Inappropriate" by 100Hz, the quality factor is very much present. Even Octave's "Racing", a rough, analog house banger with an industrial edge, packs enough of a punch to make us wonder why we haven't been name-dropping him more often. Over on the flip, Nightdrivers member Rufus, who is often heard alongside Mass Prod, drops the supremely funky "Conseguenza", a disco-tinged house roller that's given the dub-house treatment by the increasingly present Cab Drivers. Excellent material, right here.

Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

AlexKid - "Kebap" (6:27)
Marcelo Cura & Origins Of Time - "Whisper" (8:06)
Rasna Luji - "Le Visionidi Modigliani (Suono Su Tela)" (7:49)
Massimmiliano Jannitti - "Sur" (6:41)
Review: Italian imprint Hangover is back. Was it the late great Roger Moore who once suggested that the best cure for such a thing is skulling a can of Coke? More to the point: First up on their second release is French tech house legend Alexkid with the stripped back and minimal groove of "Kebap". Its reductionist tendencies reminiscent of Thomas Brinkmann or Hardtrax era Richie Hawtin. Also on the A side is Frenchmen Marcelo Cura & Origins Of Time with the particularly impressive "Whisper". Its densely layered esoteric hypnotism will appeal to fans of the Romanian sound. On the flip, Rasna Luji's "Le Visionidi Modigliani" (Suono Su Tela) also samples classical sounds and organic elements on yet another trance inducing cut that takes its cues from eastern European minimal. Finally, Massimiliano Jannitti's bouncy afterhours cut "Sur"is the kind of cheeky weirdo jam you'd expect to hear on Sunday morning at Kater Blau.

Emotional Damage (6:22)
Vocoder DIT (5:25)
Emotional Damage (Tiago Walter remix) (7:01)
Mindset (6:07)
Review: Parisian label Increase The Groove are flying the flag for electro house that's fun as hell, so don't be put off by the title of this new collab from Alyhas and Occibel. Emotional Damage is a misnomer for the infectious joy bursting from this four-strong release, whether it's the title track with its monster boogie licks, Italo arps and catchy vocoder or the underwater pop swirl of 'Vocoder DIT'. Tiago Walter is on hand to remix 'Emotional Damage' into an artfully pumping version for the peak time and then 'Mindset' completes the picture with another cybernetic trip through ear-snagging hooks and playful FX.

Views - "Reyv" (6:17)
Views - "Running Teeth" (5:55)
Review: Hello to Off The Grid Records, a new label that makes a head-turning debut here. It features artists close to the label's heart who all lay out a fine sonic vision. A melancholic house cut by Ancut, head mastering engineer from Analogcut, and Onirik, OTG's head honcho, kicks off then Onirik goes solo with a deep and dreamy house tune suited to both warm-up or early hours. Views then impresses after a couple of releases on Garage Hermetique with two clubby, punchy, IDM influenced flexes. This is a great debut which means we'll be locked into this label from now on.

NY Fizzzzz
Fountains Of Paradise
Review: Schmorsgabord is a new label, and it launches in style with this collaboration between Laurie 'Appleblim' Osborne and Julian 'October' Smith. The release sounds like a perfect meeting of the former's DJ-friendly bass excursions and the latter's tendency towards deep, dubby techno. Indeed, lead track "NY Fizzzzz" perfectly encapsulates this meeting of minds: the beats are tough and DJ-friendly, yet contain a swinging, Applepips-esque feeling that will let the track get noticed amid the deluge of straighter techno and tech-house releases. Up next, the duo focus on a more experimental approach. "Fountains of Paradise" eschews the dance floor, but the deep, brooding chord soundscape is lent some urgency by the shuddering waves of abstract percussion that occasionally break through the ponderous surface. That the label has decided to put its weight behind two different facets of this collaboration ensures that the end product is very tasty.

Vlad Arapasu - "Osc2" (8:18)
Yama Music - "Ends Meat" (7:01)
Frazer Campbell - "How Hard Can It Be" (6:01)
OddMann - "Spazziale" (5:44)
Review: The Yama Music label is slowly but surely building a fantastic discography. It has taken five years to get to release number six, but each one has always been worth the wait. This Various Artists collection sees the crew expand its roster with the likes of London's Frazer Campbell bringing his perfectly reduced and rolling dub techno sounds to 'How Hard Can It Be.' OddMann's 'Spazziale' is another dub heavy joint, but one with a slower tempo that encourages you to sink in deep and enjoy zoning out. Elsewhere, 'Osc2' is all about a brilliantly bulbous bassline that never stops evolving, and the Yama Music crew offer a rock solid, jacked up house cut full of muscularity.

We Call Love (DJ Harvey remix)
Review: Art Department and Crosstown Rebels seem to have taken the house world by storm in the last two years. Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White's "We Call Love" has been picked apart carefully put back together again by the legendary Balearic beardo DJ Harvey for a limited one sided, hand stamped, hand numbered white label. Slow burning and downtempo, "We Call Love" plays with the original's raw electric guitar melodies, piercing key sequences and chopped vocal snippets. Sensual and lethargically bouncy, it's a late night house track made in typical modern and blase style from the CR camp. Be quick!

Autre - "Seiryu" (7:02)
Kryptic Universe - "01309 Stairways" (9:04)
Owen Jay & Brian James - "Chordless" (5:25)
Review: Given the success of the first two installments of the Editions series, it's little surprise to see XDB put together a third volume for his Metrolux imprint. He's assembled another crack team of international contributors, too. Autre and Xinner join forces on opener "Nebula", a fine combination of low-slung techno drums, restless electronics and deep space sonics. Autre goes solo to deliver the fluttering, late night hypnotism of "Seiryu", before Kryptic Universe steals the show with "01309 Stairways", a superb chunk of rolling intelligent techno that features an extended ambient intro. Owen Jay and Brian James round things off with the distorted drum machine hits and woozy riffs of "Chordless" (which, to be fair, is an accurate title).

Olsvanger - "Blue On Blue" (5:56)
MYKI & Matris - "Longest Night" (6:14)
Tantra Motion - "To U" (6:29)
Review: Tel-Aviv-based label Tofistock helped shape out their sound with the first volume of Hyper Love in 2021, and now they return with another round of fun and feisty club tracks which speak to the Israeli love affair with psy-trance while offering a modern context for the sound. Babylon X takes a richly melodic approach which fuses big synth pads and sweet 303 lines with a smart, pulsing drop for a proper gear shift when you want to lock a crowd in even deeper. Asphalt DJ & Gzardin have a whale of a time with the punchy, pumping pressure of 'Sweaty Ride' while MYKI & Matris keep it turned up to the peak time with a catchy, vocal-speckled workout. For our ears though you need to make sure you check Tantra Motion's dreamy 'To U', which tips over towards heady machine soul for the subtler corners of a set.

Review: Short Attention has more than grabbed ours with its first two EPs and this third one keeps up that good early form. It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Borai - "The Rejection"
Deep88 - "Works"
Oliver Deutschmann - "Straight Up My All"
Freestyle Man - "Give It To Me"
Review: It's been a while since we heard anything from Bristol's best dressed chicken in town Borai, so it's great to see him leading the way on this second edition of the Jackoff Beats series from Berlin label Jackoff Records. Indeed this is Boris English's second contribution to the series, having appeared on last year's inaugural 12" alongside Iron Curtis and Oli Deutschmann. "The Rejection" demonstrate's Borai's lost none of his production verve for emotionally loaded house music and sets a high bar for what follows. Deep88 rolls deep on a lo fi filtered disco flex with the excellent "Works" whilst Oliver Deutchsmann also maintains his 100% Jackoff Beats appearance record with the stripped down acid burner "Straight Up My All". A welcoming titular vocal hook is the key element around which the Freestyle Man lays down a classic dusty house groove on the closing "Give It To Me".

Review: MixCult present another various artists 12" of sleek minimal tech and dub tech grooves for discerning DJs, leading in with the shimmering metallic cloudbursts of Bruit Blanc and Moodeep's 'Sunshine'. Ohm & TM Shuffle follow that up with the dreamy, rainy day deepness of 'We Penetrate Them' before Genning remixes Atart's 'JNVPE' into a tightly-wound tripper for the late hours of the dance. Review: Fantastic Friends remains a reliable outpost for warm and inviting minimal tech house from the cosy climes of Geneva, and this intermittent series of various artist releases provide a great overview of the label's sound and wider artistic community. Christian Burkhardt opens up this record with the slinky, looped up groove of 'Buto', while Octave encircles your ears with the seductive bassline undulations of 'The Message'. And rather than looking back over past achievements to celebrate the anniversary, they've reached out to some of their most exciting new members. On the first side of Cold Flower (Full Bloom) you've got Cris P with the hi-tech deepness of the title track, reminiscent of early United States Of Mars sounds, followed by Rosario's darkly stomping Stigma Flap remix and Ouhx's liquid drum 'n' bass journey 'Aomori' which is an introduction of things to come over on the flip. Review: Canadian violinist Owen Pallett lends a hand to Dan 'Caribou / Daphni' Snaith on this latest bout of rootsy grooves for his more club ready venture, and the results are rather startling. "Julia" rides on a bumping drum beat that sounds as though it were fashioned out of solid oak, while Pallett's string chops come in dramatic side strokes to add a sense of danger to an already tense situation. "Tiberius" meanwhile has a more techno-orientated outlook, while the strings this time come in nerve-shredding discordant formations that conjure up a fire-and-brimstone party scenario for the more apocalyptically minded dancer.

Review: The Mosaic split series is beginning to gather pace and is throwing together some interesting names of old and new vintage with truly compelling results. Volume three of the series draws for tracks from Ed Davenport and Ozka with the resultant tone most definitely one for fans of techno with a darker hue. Davenport needs no introduction these days and the Berghain regular's "Bloodchild" rides the fine line between house and techno perfectly with a dark twisted bass line driven groove and eerie vocal line that typifies his unique sound. Techno veteran Aubrey turns in a storming techno monster of a remix of Ed Davenport's unreleased "Islands" which represents a welcome return to Mosaic after his last appearance with the Contact Funk EP back in 1997! Representing the new school is rising Belgian techno talent David Nizet (aka Ozka) whose wonderful bass line driven dub-stab-fest "Thirteen Years" demonstrates why he's such a hot tip!

On Collaborations 3 there's some surefire material, be assured. Starting off with (quite literally) some of the coolest names in underground house music: firstly Deep Mariano (Get Slow) with the funky, rolling, minimal-tribal groove that is "From Machines To Jungle", then One + 1 & Camilo Gil with the charmingly titled "Bitch Call", a deep and hypnotic cut that's perfectly geared for the afterhours. On the flip, they hand the reins over to Bucharest's finest; Funk E & Bodeler who deliver the tripped out trance induction of "Playa Den Bolsa" (where they really show us how it's done!) then finally homeboy Ronan Portela throws down the tough and thumping functionality of "Changing Minds" which is undoubtedly the most straight ahead offering on here. Review: TV Hill Records starts things off rough and curiosity-rousing, with a technical itch from OG AG (Andrew Grant) in collaboration with fellow producer Dimneonsum. A mid-paced deep techno calculator, 'What's Up Everybody' pares back any semblance of emotion for pure robotic urgency, with every sound moving in juddering clockwork lockstep in an abstracted world of pure, preservative mathematic topology. Opener 'San Fran' pits nervous FM loops against an equally anxious Shepard-tonal riser, while calmer moments such as the beatless 'Drakey' still disquiet with their eerie glassiness. One for the bleepy heads, the only humanistic element is the revelatory vocal sample on 'Found Out'.

Review: Novaj Records presents its second vinyl release - 'Space Energy', an electrifying compilation EP inviting listeners on an interstellar journey through a wide array of sonic cosmologies, in good stead with the nascent trend of space-age acid house emergent of late. Lauching into the boundless realms of space, the likes of Donnie Cosmo's 'Venus Transit', MLink's 'Frequencia' and Sunaas' 'Flash Dancer' are all as enchanting as they are out-of-body-experience-inducing.

Dop & Masomenos - "Hello!"
Dop - "Rave Forever Together"
Patrick Chardronnet - "Source Of Life"
Of Norway - "Song For Ava"
Review: Perhaps the cutest concept behind a record release in some time, Connaisseur present Welcome Ava, a four track EP with artists asked to contribute productions in honour of label boss's Alex and Hilary Flitsch newborn daughter. How the artists involved - dOP, Of Norway, Pat Chardronnet and Masomenos - chose to approach the project was left open to interpretation and the results are pleasingly diverse in execution. Parisian troupe dOP contribute two tracks; they collaborate with Masomenos on opening track "Hello" which occupies the playful, dubby and ambient nursery strata whilst their solo production is more familiar speakerboxx embellished twanging techno fare. Audiomatique regular Patrick Chardronnet opens the B Side with a charming and quite sprawling downtempo harp filled excursion called "Source Of Life" whilst Of Norway address Ava directly with the swirling psychedelia of "Song For Ava".

Review: Spanish label Bohrium are back with the second volume of Empirical Test, a release that showcases new musical visions, deep grooves and minimalistic bangers. The first side begins with Italian veteran Fabrizio Maurizi, aka Dorothy's Dream, who hypnotises you with 'Awarawati', a blend of minimal bass, futuristic ambience and simple beats. This is followed by Techu, the rising star of Rominimal, who delivers the ethereal tech house of 'Promise'. Over on the flip you have Origins Of Time from Morocco, who ends the vinyl with 'Disturbed System', a powerful late-night banger with spacey vocals and Detroit vibes. 180g & limited copies.

Octo Octa - "Stars & Water" (6:04)
Review: Eris Drew and Octo Octa are one of the hottest couples in dance music. They perfectly embody the modern way which is to make music that is diverse and inclusive, unafraid of wearing its heart on its sleeve and never too far away from damn good fun. Their transcendental ecstatic rave sounds have brought countless dance floors together all over the world, not least fabric. The London club's in house label return the favour by putting out this limited curacao coloured 12" with one track from each of the US artists. Drew's 'Day After A Night With U' opens up with real house warmth and Octo Octa's 'Stars & Water' on the flip is equally deep and delicious.

Review: Soiree Records lines up another seriously tasty release here from four on-form artists who all deserve your undivided attention. Motor City man 'Drivetrain' brings raw, granulated synth and muted acid to tough house drums. Aussie artist Jani Ho's 'Mono Charge' is panel-beating techno to sweep you off your feet, and Parisian Motomitsu then brings some heart and soul with a chord-drenched cosmic house exploration. It is then to American Owen Ni for the balmy, dreamy, spacious and lo-fi closer, 'Another Sunny Afternoon.' These are well-produced and original cuts each with a mood and mind of their own.

Review: Humano, one of the strongest collaborations yet between regular studio buddies Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann, first saw the light of day on a limited edition picture disc. Six months on, and with demand for the record still high, Senso Sounds has decided to press a regular vinyl edition. As with the original pressing, Dubfire and Huntemann's psychedelic original - think chunky, big room grooves, twisted electronic riffs and progressive house melodies - comes accompanied by a trio of tasty reworks. Victor Ruiz and Hatzler deliver dark, mind altering techno interpretations, with the Shaded Summer Skin remix offering a more wonky, minimalist techno vibe.

Review: More sophisticated techno from Duplex, Delta Funktionen and Ohrwert. The fourth instalment of their Field series kicks off with the mammoth "Proprioception", a brooding slice of techno that takes up a whole 12" of wax. The groove of "AM Depth" by Duplex is submerged deep below a raw Chicago-style jack, while the spooky sonic landscape created by the on-fire Delta Funktionen on "Matrimony" rounds of a stellar release.

Review: Deep minimal vibes with love from Colombia here, from new imprint Psicodelica. Their inaugural release gets things off to an impressive start: so keep your eyes on this promising label. Starting off with Leipzig's Echoton and the rather Vid influenced hypnotic roller "687" on the A side. This is followed by the New Jersey based Overshift with the glitchy and quirked out microhouse of "Morning Coffee" which will appeal to fans of the Minibar or Aeternum sounds out of Paris. On the flip is label head honcho David San with "Fun Parts", where he gets into some reduced and basic trance induction until finally Italian Riccardo Pazzaglia aka ETH serves up the dubby late night deepness of "Ingire".

Review: It's time for all minimal fans to jump aboard the Leitmovtif train once more here with this decent split EP from En and Orbit. The latter invites us into his world first with 'Hey Tobit' which is nice and lively tech brought to life with scurrying synths, well-designed effects and a nice sense of colour. 'Niagara' then pairs delightfully cosmic-sounding melodic motifs with a glossy tech house kick. En's 'Laboratorium' keeps things classy with another forward-thinking mix of barmy astral synth designs and effective, stylish drum programming. Last of all, 'Dream About' gets a little trippy with its chilly cowbells, smeared pads and heady atmosphere.

Cicada
Review: With their debut record the German producer team Martin Eyerer and Oliver Klein created a brilliant clubby minimal house EP with a touch of hypnotic trance and madness. "Kairo" is the perfect continuation of the relaxed and psychedelic Chardronnet remix of Cosmic Sandwich's "Man In A Box". Martin Eyerer has been DJing now for 18 years. During this time he has released more than 60 records for labels like ministry of sound Germany, Underwater Records and his own label Session Deluxe. He also runs a radio show called Session Deluxe where he regularly invites artists like Toni Rios, Miss Kitten and Oliver Klein. Oliver Klein has also been DJing since nearly twenty years now. He is not only been resident in many clubs like "The Gallery" but also runs the "Home 14" club in Düsseldorf/Germany together with Alexander Bongardt. After many successful productions and remixes Oliver and Martin have now produced a grand record for My Best Friend. The A side track "Al Quadus" works with melodic bass lines, grinding bass lines, jumping single notes, warped chords and atmospheric floating sounds in the background. The outcome of this is a third dimension which creates quite a journey and strong attention. In contrary to this the B side track "Cicada" is very stripped down, light, more joyful and crazy. It holds a mad really long sequence which creates total frenzy.

Review: Dear friends of Kickboxer! "Strange are the way of the lord"! Well, and so are the ones of the world wide web and my space. So it took only a few emails for Martin Eyerer, Oliver Koletzki and Kickboxer to create a nice axis Berlin-Stuttgart-Cologne. That's fun, easy and most refreshing for the audience. Yippee! Martin, the man from South Germany is always on the go an he can look back on a number of impressing co-operation: Chopstick, Joachim Spieth, Namito, Toni Rios and most recently Gui Boratto, our most favourite South-American on Kompakt. On Kickboxer, he came up with the smashing track "Muckenschwarm" he produced together with Oliver Koletzki in 2005. Granulum/Nimubs are well-structured, pumping and extremely groovy. Here comes a great mixture of Swabian and Berlin tunes - and nothing will go wrong. Keep on rockin!

Review: Lyon might be known as the gastronomical capital of France, but the Undergroove label is doing a fine job of putting the city on the radar of tech house fans. This fourth release is another futuristic trip that kicks off with the punchy drum programming but squelchy synths of Feel the Jam's "UK Breakfast." Keraw gets you in a spin with the quickened and sleek grooves of his "Keutra" then Oden & Fatzo combine to triumphant effect on the high speed tech funk cut that is "Titontesttu" with its gorgeously freeform bassline taking centre stage. Herr Krank's "Fight Your Fears" closes out the adventure with an ever rising acid line that eventually leads to intergalactic tech house lift off. You best strap in!

Review: Underground Enigmatic Techno, or simply known as Urgent, is Odd Music's sub-label and its second outing involved ODD teaming up with newcomer Deego Fresh on the shadowy white label series. Fresh himself drops some killer quasi breakbeat action on "Output This", and those rickety beats surrounded by delayed chords remind us of Shed on his Power House series, while "The Balance" heads further into deep house territories thanks to its mild keys and laid-back approach. ODD comes through on "Accompong", a minimal techno number with plenty of subdued FX trickery and an altogether dubwise mood. Top stuff, this!

No Tech Just Wax is a fledgling label who recently threw their own metaphorical hat into the market and this fourth Various Artist EP is another strong one. It brings a certain hardcore edge and punk spirit to stripped back club grooves with the opener from FRNK being a case in point. Elsewhere there is alien-infected sound from DJ WEB, rugged electro and head-wrecking acid. This EP's strengths is in its fantastic variation.

Review: French crew Increase The Groove have been building up a fine head of steam over their first nine releases, and the 10th is another tidy one. It brings together four emerging producers who each have their own style. Ghini B's "Recut" is a clipped and kinetic opener with spinning hi hats bursting out of the groove. There is a fine electro break at the heart of Marius's sci-fi trip "Paranoid", ten Oden nails you to the floor with his early Chicago style house kicker "Relief." Previous releases have come from Alejandro Vivanco, Mariano DC, Felipe Valenzuela and Alexi Delano. Their latest comes courtesy of duo One + 1 comprised of Ruber Solar and Alexander Necaa with Gil One. They provide some deeply hypnotic minimal house for the afterhours on "Inner Voices" which also comes with a nice remix by Fabric resident Terry Francis: his version going down an even tripper and reductionist route: that's equally geared for weirdo moments down at Club Der Visionaere on a Sunday. On the flip, things get a bit dubbier on the rolling and tough stomper "Blackstar" and things get even more flanged and drenched in reverb / delay with the euphoric closer "Special One".

Review: Nuggets from Nug-Net... here the label headed up by Gene On Earth successfully throws a four tracker of tech house our way, spanning the stranger and more esoteric ends of the style, and occasionally skimming against deeper territories. Half Cut's 'Electric' brings electric-organic energy to the A-side, while Sekance's self-titled track steals the show on the B, via unparalleled rave stabs and tribal builds. To top it all off, there's even a course run by Gene, dictating how best to achieve that techy mastery you crave...
