Review: A taster for Robert Hood's second Floorplan album, this EP puts a spotlight on the radical nature of his musical transformation. On "Music", the visceral rhythms of techno minimalism are gone; in their place is a rolling, tracky groove that boasts a repetitive vocal loop and which has shades of classic Relief /Derrick Carter. "Tell You No Lie" is even more impressive. It sees Hood use a gospel vocal over a stomping, funk guitar-sampling disco house workout. There is an audibly religious dimension to "Tell You No Lie," but Hood's knack for writing a great tune means that it sounds celebratory rather than self-indulgent or preachy.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan invites a trio of artists to lay down some serious head nodding beats for 'Rhythm Method Vol.4'. Calling on one of Canada's trusted talents and solid purveyors of deep grooves Jay Tripwire leads the charge with 'Mung Bean Medley'. There's simply no messing: pushing through a taught rhythmic workout, incessant toms and metallic tones etch deep into the mood - awash with dubbed out atmospherics and crafty touches that more than a give a nod to the dark house dubs of yesteryear. On the flip, 'Hidden Sequence' inject their creative flex, demonstrating the all important art of minimalist bounce with 'Synchro'. The kind of fully swung beats and tripped out twinges that brighten the groove more often than not when 7am comes calling. The svelte bustle and soothing tones of 'Makka' from Fletcher by contrast, soothe the mind and leaves plenty of room to kick back as weary limbs take their toll: a fine tonic indeed.

Review: Fred P continues to be a prolific driving force in deep house, with his own Private Society label carrying a huge amount of his work these days. On this latest single he maintains one of his other close working relationships with Parisian institution Synchrophone, delivering three cuts of his refined, endlessly immersive music. 'Dance Of Rhythms' is a driving, sharply defined cut with a lot of action occurring in the lower register while the higher frequencies have acres of space to stretch out in, all the better to keep your head mellow while the hips sway. 'The Beauty In The Sound' is a more pattering affair and 'Vibe Science' favours a nagging drum pattern which nods towards jazz funk as much as techno. This is quintessential Fred P mastery, through and through.

Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Pedro Bertho's 'TOITOI' starts side two, nodding to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' with its soulful keys creating magic over a simple, banging techno framework before COEO's 'Vertigo' gets to work with its proto-breakbeat beats and one utterly orgasmic breakdown. Review: Terry Francis is a tech house OG. He's one of the earliest fabric residents and of course was half of Wiggle, a vital party and DJ pairing that helps shape tech house's earliest forms. He has a fine solo catalogue too and it is that which Mint Condition, the fine reissue label, digs into now to serve up his classic Dubtown. It opens up with the watery dub-tech and liquid grooves of 'Hannah's House' then gets a more melodic dub. 'As You Cry' is an irresistible groove with wobbly bass, sharp hi-hats and that kinetic sense of drive that a good tech house always has. Last up is another Rub N Tug classic, 'Reggae's House'.

Review: Coming in hot after last year's Pura Lempuyang compilation is this new two part 12" offering up cuts from it on limited edition turquoise wax. Dib kicks off with 'Cieloterra' which is a devilishly deep and dubby techno cut with fizzing synths running across its face. Federsen is much more smooth and silky with liquid pads and a sublime sense of frictionless groove to his 'Random Motion' while Grad U offers more heavy and stumbling dub quakes on 'From The Shadows.' Last of all is Altone's 'Emergent Structure,' a lush minimal excursion with deft hits and feathery pads over sublime drums.

Review: When it comes tech house, Eats End Dubs's Eastenderz label is right up there with the best of them. This time out the 55th outing comes from Julian Fijima. As always it's a fine distillation of tech, dub and house with a hint of garage thrown in too on opener 'Get Funky', then 'Destructive Rhythm' brings rave synth stabs and dark vocals. 'Optional Illusion' has more molten acid lines run through its midst and last of all is the best of the lot - the percussive swing of 'How It's Going Down.'

Review: After a couple of quiet years Ferro's VBX label returns with a bang, as the esteemed Dutch minimal producer links up with none other than Ricardo Villalobos for a run of 'Ferric' jams. Enlightened souls should have some idea of what to expect here, as Ferro's snappy grooves collide with Villalobos' meandering sound collages to create psychoactive termites geared towards twisting out the dancefloor good and proper. This is proper minimal, with the percussion chiselled into fine clicks and pops to leave more space for the trippy elements to weave their magic. The quality comes assured from this new pairing, hopefully paving the way for more collaborations in the future.

Review: Toolroom sits at the top of the tree when it comes to big room house music. Mark Knight's label has mastered the art of maximal sounds and this eighth volume of the Tooroom Sampler series is another one that will do plenty of damage. Essel's 'Sweat' is a rigid tech cut with stiff synths and libidinous vocals, then Shiba San and Ayarez get direct with shuffling tech house cut 'Twist It' complete with big skewed synths. Friend Within's 'Pilka' keeps the energy levels high with fizzing synth loops over textured drums and a fat bassline. Maur x Westend and Cami Bear close out with some brighter melodies to get hands in the air on 'Over.'

Review: The high class Shall Not Fade welcomes equally sophisticated and accomplished deep house don Fred P for another of his superbly heady outings on lush purple vinyl. 'High Rise' finds Fry in fine form and layering up dynamic drums with majestic chords and swirling instrumentation that is grand in scale. 'Only Subs' has a little more thump to it with wispy vocals and chords swirling round over the hefty and hypnotic drums and 'Get It On' has a more slick feel with its warped leads and fragmented vocals. Last of all is a Rhythms In The Place beats edit of 'Only Subs' for more direct deployment.

Review: Last year's superb Pura Lempuyang album has been pulled apart and served up on a couple of separate 12"s and this is the second one. It comes on limited turquoise vinyl and offers four cuts of stylish deep dub and techno. Fletcher's 'It's A Virtue' goes first with taught, twanging bass and grubby basslines then Mike Schommer's 'Kingmaker' offers liquid dub funk with watery pads and hissing static. Nicolas Barnes picks it up a little with a darker but still warm dub techno roller in 'Sonic Dial' and Redrop's 'Genesis' is the more driving of the lot but again exists right on the ocean floor.

Review: Soon as you drop the needle on PH Project's opener 'Blue Yellow Twist' here we guarantee you will be twisting your face in mock disc guts. The bassline is a filthy and old-school gem with organ chord stabs and spoken word snippets adding the irresistible sense of naughty house funk. DMA then bangs the box with cosmic synths and hints of 90s post-rave, Pilot System cruise on a chunky bit of bass-driven house and Frozilla & TJ go deep on far-sighted chords and bubbly bass. This is unpretentious, functional but fun house music from a small but already well-formed label.

Review: Florence is back on their own self titled label for a fifth outing that once again brings hardcore funk groves laden with great samples. 'Get Down' is raw and driving with hard hits and bouncing bass all delivered in a lo-fi style under guttural vocals. 'Dirty' is more sleazy and low slung with a more seductive vocal sound and plenty of modern synth lines next to the authentic rhythm section sounds. Whoever is behind this project sure knows how to cook up the funky goods and then some.

Review: Ame's Innervisions label has joined forces with Philomena here for a 15th release in its series. This one kicks off with an Ivory remix of Fever Ray's 'Shiver.' The leftfield electronic artist who is also part of The Knife has a distinctive voice, to say the least, and that shines out here as shimmering chords radiant around it and over a proggy groove. The flip side offers up and unknown artist with 'Track 2' which has a familiarr vocal left to hang in the air above a cold, snappy tech rhythm. It's the sort of quietly anthemic cut Ame are known for dropping at special moments.

Review: Tech house is an unfairly maligned genre. While criticisms of the blandness of the sound might hold weight for much of the stuff released today, the same simply can't be said for the work of Terry Francis, who helped pioneer its sound. All & All is a new series, this one documenting Francis' contributions to the underground, with many of the tracks appearing on it made during the period in which he was a resident DJ at London's Fabric. As you can hear, 'tech house' at the origin point, as propagated by Francis, was much dreamier - closer to its cousin, deep house. And on cuts like 'How Can Something', you can really hear where the received 'dreaminess' of house and the uptempo, industrial pulse of techno, converged.

Review: Youandewan's Small Hours label is indeed small but beautifully formed so far. This fifth transmission is another doozy that collects four different artists who all operate on the spaced out end of the electronic house and minimal spectrum. The Former Landlords kick off with breezy and balmy 90s tech house style sounds on 'Council Pop' then Session 4000 go 'Off' with plenty of sci-fi pads and clipped, kinetic drum programming as well as some playful vocal samples. Mop Py' 'Beskar' is a more psychedelic late night wonder with gurgling bass and lovely neon synth trails. Jad & The complete this essential slab of wax.

Review: Ready your arms and ears for an injection of nostalgia from Mark Knight and Funkagenda. These two longstanding artists tear the house down with their reimagining of the classic track by French maestro Laurent Garnier - clearly, the original is by now a house music standard, to the extent that Garnier isn't even obviously credited on the release here. It just goes without saying. Knight and Funkagenda's 'cover' here is neatly chiptuney, emphasising the bare bones of the composition, while their networking abilities see to further remixes of the cover by ATFC, Rene Amesz, and - hilariously - Hardwell. A varied remix EP spanning EDM, deep tech and nu-disco.

Review: Sydney label Club Sweat deals in big, accessible, effective house tunes that are designed to bring a smile to your face. The latest in a long line of such tunes is from Hot Creations man Lee Foss and Franky Wah. Their superb 'Name Of Love' has it all - effortlessly smooth and rolling house drums, the sound of chanting children and silky pad work. Finishing it off is a carefree vocal from SPNCR and the whole thing is just divine. The Torren Foot remix is much more angsty and edgy, with big percussive energy, sizeable drops and rock solid, kicks for teeth-gritted late night dancing.

Review: For the first time ever, Basic Spirit has enlisted an artist who isn't in-house to contribute to its fine catalogue. And there is no one finer for that honour than Fantastic Man, a legend in the game with a fantastically fresh sound no matter what style he turns his hand to. He kicks off with 'Spiritual Guidance' which is pacey, spacey house music with real synth serenity. 'The Beach' brings broken beats and sot acid manoeuvres next to rueful piano chords. Review: Detroit legend Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes has had a truly massive month with a couple of releases on his esteemed Detroit Wax imprint (which he runs with Niko Marks) and this week he kickstarts his City Boy imprint back into action. This is its first release in 11 years, presenting part one of the Knucklehead Series featuring a fine selection of moods and grooves. First up is the deep down and dirty tech-funk of '1-2-3', followed by the dusty twilight mood music of 'Hold Me Down' and over on the flip is the double 12's most energetic cut in the form of 'Test Unknown' - a sincere expression in proper Motor city style 'hi-tech soul'.

Review: German beat maker Fabe has emerged over recent years as one of tech house's most skilled groove smiths. His drums and bass are always seductive no matter their style. Here he links up with Burnski aka Instinct's Constant Sound label for four more irresistible nuggets. 'The Greater Good' is super quick as it glides over rippling bass with silky chords, then 'Newbie Bounce' has a more weighty groove. Review: Now well over its 200th release, Hot Creations remains one of the house scene's most recognisable labels. In that time it has done a fine job of evolving its sound and staying relevant, not least to singing newer artists such as label heads Jones and Foss do here. Bruno Furlan harks back to the heyday of Latin and stringy minimal made famous by Cadenza's Luciano on 'Bongoloco'. It's a jam that teases with its percussive lines drawn out and woven into rolling beats, while 'Vai' is a little more full-fat and dubby. Both are sure to be huge this summer season.

Review: Rooting the productions of Frits Wentink in one specific style has always been tough, primarily because he makes quirky, oddball house and techno numbers that draw inspiration from the dust-encrusted, sample-rich haziness of MPC-driven instrumental hip-hop. His latest EP, which arrives on the popular Bobby Donny imprint, is another boundary-blurring affair that's closest in tone and style to deep house, but is as far from 'standard' deep house as you'd expect. It's a great collection of cuts all told, with our picks being the bassline driven, alien-sounding unorthodoxy of 'You Talk Funny', the warped, mind-mangling tech-house-jazz of 'Forestation' and the deliciously hazy, hypnotic dub-house of 'Shred Bread'.

Review: Hot Creations has now been rolling out the club friend, crowd pleasing jams for over a decade and well over 200 releases. But still they manage to unearth new names and potent sounds to keep people going back for more. It's Jay Farina and Quinzi who combine on two slammers here. First up is 'Pumpin The Junk', a fat-bottomed house cut with robust drum wallops, raved up horn stabs and a sleazy vocal. On the backside is a more tribal cut. 'The Buzz,' which layers up the percussion with steamy and sizzling summer intent next to a potent vocal that has got summer Ibiza classic written all over it.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic label is back with a second volume of its dubs series, this time on nice yellow vinyl with Sub Basics and Fletcher given one side each to shine. Sub Basics goes first with 'Mediterranean', a lovely liquid dub with bottomless depths and perfectly smooth, frictionless drums. Lovely soft melodies drift in and out as the echoing hits and icy hi-hats help oil this most heady of grooves. On the flip, Fletcher offers up 'Sludge' which is a little more tense and menacing, with darker bass and more texture as well as distant groaning pads that keep you guessing and on edge.

Review: Sascha Funke is one of those low-key German artists who has always operated at the forgives of hype but never failed to cook up interesting sounds that are as deserving of attention as anything. This is a second EP this year after the tech house man took a few years out and it is another one that really stands proud of the crowd on Konpakt. 'Treets' pairs trippy synth designs with catchy tech beats while 'E-Plus' gets darker, with busted drum loops and phased bass. 'Alles Paletti' is a big old cosmic tech workout then 'Haus More' sinks into dubbed out and stripped back late night acid territory.

Packed with all flavours you'd expect from the young producer, and more, we're treated to a whole menu of vibes. 'Emeline' starts the trip with a jacking, trippy house note that's comparable to the old Classic Music grooves. Review: The second Volume of Terry Francis' All & All series hears much of the work of the esteemed tech house pioneer and Fabric resident DJ compiled into a retrospective compilation. One can hear the convergent nature of Francis' tech house - it's in the name, 'tech house', i.e. techno and house - truly come together on this LP. The likes of 'Wish On', 'Helicopter' and 'Funky Future' are honest movers, made with deft precision and accuracy, - and bringing together many different popular styles at the time, from speed garage to tribal to funky house, with tech house resulting as a kind of distillation of them all.

Review: Frankey & Sandrino are a mighty pair who know how to lay down compelling tech sounds. They unite once more here for a powerful two-tracker on the legendary Berlin-based Rekids label. First up is 'Brainscan' which is dark and moody, with futuristic synths and stark vocals over a rolling, tense bassline. On the flip is 'Condesa' which is a much more loose affair with broken beat drums and 80s synth lines. It has a post-rave 90s feel but updates for modern dance floors. Review: Repeat's 'All & All' series is doing a great job in documenting the immense contribution that UK tech-house pioneer Terry Francis has made to the electronic underground. The genius of Francis's work of the late 90s and 2000s is how it presented a form of purist tech-house that drew as much from classic US deep house as the stargazing futurism of techno. This fifth instalment in the series boasts three decidedly deep excursions. Side A sports 'Loving You', an ultra-dreamy and immersive affair from 2001 that wraps deep house elements around a typically chunky and hypnotic groove. Over on the B-side, the echoing male vocal snippets, sumptuous pads and bubbly electronics of 'Strong Woman' are followed by the slightly more dubby (and even dreamier) brilliance of 1999's 'Love In'.

This guy is a real cult hero in the scene and someone with a fine grasp on sound design and the ability to make the silkiest of grooves, as evidenced by the opener 'Untitled One' which takes up all of the A-side and does great things with it too. The rolling drums and flaky snares are super silky, like liquid metal flowing downhill under trippy little details. 'Untitled Two' is just as sublime in its synthesis, with gloopy synths, whirring effects and catchy drum funk. 'Untitled Three' is a darker, slightly more intense but still perfectly reduced minimal brew.

Review: Mannheim tech house machine Fabe has been on an unstoppable roll in the past few years, notching up top drawer releases for respected labels like Shall Not Fade, Constant Sound and Cecille. Now he brings that heat to PIV Limited, resulting in a set of workouts which will get any party pumped up in all the right ways. 'Skip & Tap' is a twitchy, freaky workout peppered with fine detail and a relentless groove, while 'Street Scale' has dirty drums and a tweaked sound palette all of its own. 'Shout Out The Box' toys with playful synth lines and a heavy swing which calls to mind the sound of SlapFunk Records and then Alexander Skancke steps up for a remix of 'Step & Tap' which heads into more streamlined, heads-down territory.

Review: Hot Creations comes through with another slab of hot house heat, this time from Bruno Furlan who brings plenty of firey tribalism and Latin energy to his offerings. There are two to choose from with 'La Fiesta' kicking off on the A-side. It's a big, bulky mix of physical kicks and chattery percussive patterns that are coarse and dry and perfect for getting the club in a sweat. Flip it over and you'll find 'Give Me That Bass' which is less straight up and has a little more bounce in its drums. They're rubbery and taught with a fiery vocal up top, plenty of wild effects and a bassline that never lets up.

Review: 'Nameless Remixes' is a fresh 12" single of minimal/tech house bubblers, offshooting from the 2018 album Nameless by Dominique Fils-Aime, a Canadian singer-songwriter who blends soul, jazz and blues with social commentary. Producers Ohm Hourani, Ben Neven, Ben Vedren and Flabbergast handle sensitive treatment of the elements of Fils Aime's originals, emphasising house and broken beat with an organic touch. All four indulge a mindful palette with plenty of headroom, occupied by walking basses, punky drum wallops, and melodic hazes, of which our favourite is Flabbergast's Flying remix.

Review: Representing the newer generation of the Mannheim sound, esteemed DJ/producer Fabian Winkels makes a worthy addition to legendary local label Cecille with the Sober Up EP. Fabe's particular brand of minimal house is on display once again, yet more optmised for main room dancefloors this time around. We particularly enjoyed the trippy and swing-fueled minimal funk of opening cut 'Solid & Straight', as well as the rolling, vocal-led tech house of 'At The Bar' or 'Frozen Cake' which are sure to rock dancefloors on The White Isle as much as they will in Berlin, while the deep and emotive B-side cut is aimed squarely at the afterhours dancefloor.

Review: After a break of two long years, tech-house scene stalwart Sascha Funke has finally delivered a new EP of typically atmospheric, on-point music. It's his first outing for Running Back after years spent flitting between BPitch Control, Multi-Culti and Endless Flight. Interestingly, what's on offer is more retro-futurist in tone than much of his work, with audible nods to vintage electronic disco, early 2000s nu-disco (think Morgan Geist) and tactile '90s deep house. Our picks of a very strong bunch are rubbery, morse code-sporting nu-disco-goes-bleep house number 'QAM', moody analogue deep house treat 'SEZ', whose creepy chords and spacey sonics are undeniably alluring, and ultra-melodious, Italo-disco-influenced opener 'FEZ'.
