Review: Details Sound is a record label curated and run by Giuseppe Magistro and Matteo Fabbri, that has brought us releases by the likes of Olfactory Nerve, Luca Garino and Klankman. Their latest is this fantastic four track various artist compilation titled The Spirit Of The Age Vol.1. It features Anatolian Weapons with the the steely slow burning aggression of 'A Series Of Changes', label staple A Hand serving up some celestial and contemplative IDM on 'Mode4rn Cage', Gamma Intel's restrained fury as heard on the body bashing bass of 'Note To My Love' and the real stars of the show here - Vactrol Park. The London-based duo giving their very best on the B side with the immersive analogue ritual rites of 'Dense & Ragged'.

Review: Greek label Pi Electronics bring together four native producers for this various artists EP that takes no prisoners, two years after the first such compilation. It features tracks taken from the full length comp of the same name - the rest will no doubt come on their own wax later - and opens with a 10 minute recording by Orphx and JK Flesh (Justin Broadrick) that is taken from a live show they did in Amsterdam. Vofa's 'Agosame' is another thrilling bit of blistering, lo-fi techno and Fragedis goes hard with the brutalist drums and dark, caustic textures of 'Disillusion.'

Review: Sweden's pleasingly experimental iDEAL Recordings launched the iDEALISM series of multi-artist EPs back in 2015. This second volume has been long promised, though it's arguably been worth the wait. It features a quartet of dark, moody and intense tracks that effortlessly combine elements of experimental noise, industrial music, and left-of-centre techno. Alexandra Atnif provides the EP's most harrowing moment, an intense, pitch-black onslaught entitled "Last Stand of Reason". If that could be described as "fiendishly unsettling", we'd argue that Varg's trippy "Run No More Parts I & II" is an altogether more psychedelic proposition - even if it is a little on the uncomfortable side. If you're after something a little more becalmed, check out the gently unfurling drone textures of Copley Medal's epic "Ger Lopic".

Review: Italian twosome Tale of Us last collaborated with Vaal - London-based daughter of Sting - way back in 2013. While that EP contained a couple of much-played tech-house rollers, this latest two-tracker explores different influences. A-side "Monument" is particularly alluring, thanks largely to rising and falling synthesizer arpeggio lines, momentum-shifting percussion, foreboding electronics and a spine-tingling vocal from Vaal. Flipside "The Hangar" is an altogether more forthright affair. Underpinned by a relentless kick-drum pattern, it's a moody, angular and mind-altering concoction that looks towards industrial techno for inspiration.

Review: It's been three long years since Vaal's last 12", a collaboration with Italian tech-house types Tale of Us. "Wander To Hell" is an intriguing proposition. For starters, it's a song, with bittersweet vocals stretching out over sustained chords, woozy melodies, bubbly electronics and a tactile, soft touch groove. It's undeniably atmospheric, and arguably suitable for club plays despite its home listening roots. The accompanying remixes drag it further towards dancefloor territory. The Locked Groove Mix is darker, woozier and altogether more metronomic, while the Baikal Remix reinvents the original as a paranoid chunk of thrusting, late night techno.

Review: For those who don't know, Trensmat is not a rip-off of Detroit's Transmat, but rather, Ireland's answer to labels such as Blackest Ever Black and Hospital Productions. If you check their discography, there's plenty of hidden gems to uncover. On this record, the enigmatic Valved receives a furious remix treatment from two Juno HQ favourites. "Tipping Point" is downright disfigured by the incorrigible AnD duo - not once but twice: the first remix offers a cascade of fuzzy, distorted kicks and incessant drone loops, while the second removes all traces of a beat and delves deep into the cogs of the machines. On the flip, "Blood On The Controls" is rewired twice by Whirling House of Knives. The first is a chest-bursting monster from the depths of the drum machines, while the second is a slice sparse and experimental neo-funk with an otherworldly succession of popping kicks and crystal-like background atmospherics. Review: New York based Shawn O'Sullivan returns with some more Vapauteen heat on LIES!! O'Sullivan is a man of many aliases; as well as exploring new wave sounds as part of Led Er Est and Further Reductions, he has been gaining plaudits for his solo productions under his own name on The Corner, as 400PPM for Avian, and as Vapauteen. Under the latter, O'Sullivan provided one of the most coveted L.I.E.S. white label releases at the beginning of 2012, exploring the industrial techno heritage that has clearly inspired his solo work. Back on LIES with this self titled six track collection, the current Vapauteen manifestation differs from the consistently frenetic pace of his debut for Morelli's label - the A-side sees him engage with slower tempos across three tracks that call to mind Skudge duo Fishermen, while the B-side is "strictly about power electronics and harsh tone work outs".

Review: A new Vatican Shadow release is always greeted with near adoration here at Juno Towers. Dominick Fernow's shadiest guise is still his best work, and this is especially true when his has 2 slabs of vinyl with which to express his ideas. As you can imagine, Luxor Necropolitics is a lingering, tenebrous cloud of industrial electronics and contained power noise. The moments that do transform into techno are still made up of the same rough materials that characterise all Vatican Shadow track, and that is a pale, unforgiving glow of sounds that never seem to get repetitive. Class.

Review: A gnarly double header up next on Dominick Fernow's notorious Hospital Productions, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. He dons the reverb Vatican Shadow moniker for his take on "Bunkerterror" a blistering example of 'war techno' if we've ever heard it. This steely and pitch black epic reachers near tribal moments with spitfire military rhythm arrangements. On the flip, Ancient Methods provides his take on the track and other than the occasional metal strikes, his version is less industrial and more hypnotic style techno with its grumbling monosynth bass and heads down/strobe-lit feel throughout. These two cuts were said to be inspired by their occasional back-to-back live and-DJ sets, with Fernow providing the "New York" side (naturally) and Michael Wollenhaupt (Ancient Methods) obviously turning in the "Berlin" side. Dangerous gear right here, handle with extreme caution!

Review: Oliver Vereker made his debut last March with two decidedly robust 12" singles on the mighty L.I.E.S. Having followed it up with more hard-as-nails excursions on Russian Torrent Versions and The Trilogy Tapes, Vereker now pops up on Berceuse Heroique with more nightmarish visions of a dystopian, post apocalyptic future. Lead cut "Flesh & Blood" is clearly the most floor-friendly of the bunch, offering surging techno rhythms overlaid with clanking percussion and little else. It's stark but strangely attractive. Low Jack hook-up "Event Horizon" flips the script, offering a beatless saunter through drone pastures, while "Bedroom Jihad" offers intense white noise, barely audible vocal samples and intense atmospherics.

Review: The Mute affiliated Liberation Technologies continue their ascendant 2013 with Misery Is A Communicable Disease, the first tangible release from Vessel since last year's stunning debut album Order Of Noise. Since his emergence as Vessel, Seb Gainsborough has gradually carved himself a place in the interzone between the rhythmic and the avant-garde with his material on left_blank and Astro:Dynamics and as part of Bristol collective Young Echo, but most impressively with that aforementioned long player for Tri Angle. Misery Is A Communicable Disease essentially picks up where Vessel left off with the moribundly named title track swamping hopeful Utopian Motor City textures reminiscent of Kenny Larkin in clanking industrial rhythmics. "VMI" meanwhile unfurls like the kind of lopsided no wave electronics that would appeal to Silent Servant or Powell and "Not For Design" offer a typically deranged finale.

Review: Also known as techno producer Obtane, Francesco Baudazzi has been raking up the audio muck of his studio as Violet Poison for a good few years now, with albums gracing Hospital Productions and Opal Tapes amongst others. This latest release marks the beginning of Veleno Viola, a label presumably focused on supporting the ominous noise work that Baudazzi puts his creative energy into these days. His is a dense, overwhelming sound that prizes industrial blasts and heavy wads of distortion, with the odd dash of sinister vocals lurking somewhere in between the cloying layers of noise. For all of that sonic antagonism, there is a human heart beating away underneath the rubble and it makes for a compelling listen.

Review: Francesco "Violet Poison" Baudazzi has been a busy bunny of late, following last year's fine Absence Generator 12" on Veleno Viola with another on Candela Rising. Here he marks the launch of the Il Silenzio Del Rumore label with four more cuts of EBM and industrial-inspired techno. The formula - undulating acid lines, classic EBM bass, snappy drum machine rhythms, horror-influenced textures - rarely changes throughout, but the results are consistently excellent. Highlights come thick and fast, from the nightmarish electro throb of "Radio Veronica 100.6" and ragged EBM thrills of "Sons Of Anarchy", to the jackin' acid wobble of "The Game".
