Review: Limited to a pressing of just 250 (with a promise of no represses) this clear vinyl release is special in every sense. Powered by some of the most exciting names on the fringes of bass and electronica; each of the four cuts strut with raw melodic futurism. "The Noncolour Entity" rumbles with a dubby techno groove a la Funk D'Void. "Irradiate" comes with an almost Bonobo-like dreaminess while "Lovesick" shakes and shudders with a sub-soaked groove and bright, bold swinging breakbeats. "Glimpse" closes the show on a timeless analogue note. Coming on strong like an old Guy Called Gerald record, it's all synths and classic electro breakbeats. Outstanding.

Review: The fourth and final release in the "Now" compilation series by Underscan Records delivers tracks by Slemper, Lambent, 3tronik and Fibla. The variety of styles defines what Underscan is all about. A mixture of contemporary electronica from abstract hip hop to dance oriented electro experiments. The complete series with all tracks from the four 12" records will be available on CD in Autumn of 2006 as a follow up to this release. Slemper kicks off the record with a stunning electroesque-track named "Dusdatikaf". Pounding beats and beautifully composed melodies warp around to make this track a club compatible DJ tool as well as a perfect home listening adventure. Slemper is Maarten Meussen from Den Haag (Netherlands) who just released his debut album "Mismatch" on the Belgian imprint Aecletrick with which he gave an outstanding example of today's freshness in electronic music. Lambent focuses with his track "Kaudyoe" into the abstract hip hop realms of electronica and creates a cinematic mood by the use of shifting tempos and found samples. Lambent is Akira Inagawa from Japan who is now based in Berlin. His works have been released on labels like Expanding, Jetlag or Alianation and his next album will be made available thru prestigious City Centre Offices later on this year. 3tronik is Fabien Florin from France. His track "Verwirrung" has already gained lots of interest by music fans all over the world as the result of being already released by various net-labels like Sutemos. Now finally and for the first time "Verwirrung" is available on quality 12" vinyl for all collectors out there. Fibla is well known in the world of today's electronica. With his own imprint spa.RK he offers records that are "Intended for emotional audiences". He has also had many releases on such labels as Sub Rosa, Quartermass, Benbecula, Worm Interface & Expanding. His contribution to Now 04 titled "International" thus is a very emotional release perfectly set into warm organic.

Review: Following fine EPs from Healing Force Project and Mesak in 2017 and 2018, On Board Music flips the script on its first and only vinyl release of 2019. "Point A" is the Berlin-based label's first mini-compilation and it's well worth a listen. Lanoche kicks things off via a spot of ultra-deep dub techno/ambient techno fusion (the wonderful "Love Fall", before Yugen doffs a cap towards the hypnotic, synthesizer-driven sound of late 1970s Krautrock on the suitably cosmic "Phantom". Serena Butler's "Fertile Fancy" is an immersive drift through enveloping ambient, Estrato Aurora's "Icnita" a bubbling deep techno epic and Vera Logdanini's "Vplanet" an acid-flecked trip into locked-in electronic hypnotism. In other words, this is a very fine collection of cuts.

Review: The Giegling label is no stranger to implementing conceptual ideas within the constructs of their output and Sudstadt EP, their 12th release, offers an intriguing central idea. Each of the four producers here - Giegling regulars Vril, Prince Of Denmark and Leafar Legov along with debutant Herr Koreander - grew up in Hannover and this 12" offers them a chance to portray their individual memories through the medium of music. Legov and Koreander commence and end the release in experimental fashion and sandwiched in-between is some of Giegling's most eminently danceable output yet from Vril and Prince Of Denmark.

Review: The second of two 12" singles this week from Darkestral Recordings sees Instra:mental's Al Green further explore his new Transportation AAD alias, a collaboration with Darkestral label head Drkstr. In "Pagoda", the pair compose a particularly atmospheric interlude which utilises Eastern tones and booming drums to create a soundscape worthy of a noir tinged sci-fi movie. The single also features more contributions from Green under another new guise, Grey Goo. Less obviously dancefloor focused, the cavernous sonics and brooding atmospherics of "Lost Transmissions" recalls the introspective dub experimentation of Blackest Ever Black's Raime, while "See Me" fuses this aesthetic to some drawn out chords and sharply programmed 808 drums. The final contribution comes from the mysterious Vaalhaala, who employs a pulsing arpeggio which sounds like it has come from a far off satellite transmission, with sounds that threaten to explode at any moment. Sounding like nothing else this year, this EP is a perfect hybrid of futuristic bass and bleak moods, and will be essential for anyone interested in where the genre can go next.

Review: Nicolas Jaar's Other People label returns after a brief hiatus with Vaghe Stelle, an Italian producer how is known for his cybernetic approach to electronic music. The mini-LP is a 360 degree view of ambient, noise and electronica, taking the listener to far and distant corners continuously. Unlike plenty of other abstract electronic releases, Vaghe Stelle has painted a world of his own, one which resembles more of a sci-fi soundtrack than a stand-alone music release. The melodies, pauses, samples, and voices all blend seamlessly to form a new sound that literally sounds a million light years from here.

Review: As a co-release to Chain Reaction 006 'Elevation' is pure and adventurous trip into electronic ambient music. Floating and drifting sequences which sometimes seem to move absolutely unrelated and the beauty of the sound design making this EP such a special listening pleasure. Review: Acid Waxa drew plenty of positive heat for carrying Roy Of The Ravers amongst many other respected braindancers, but now Hot Chip drummer Sarah Jones is getting the remix treatment on the label for her Pillow Person project, with some wild results. It's great to see Bogdan Raczynski back in action and bringing some gently wonked, emotional acid meanderings to "On Your Way", while Lechuga Zafiro makes an art out of aping footwork, and more specifically "Footcrab" while making it sound like someone just stubbed their toe and got stuck in a loop. IYDES however turns "In My Game" into a deconstructed but utterly bloated pop beast, and then Oliver Coates whips "Go Ahead" into a woozy, highly strung daze with billowing synths underneath Jones' vocal.

Review: After years spent supporting the underground IDM scene digitally, Glasgow label Ambidextrous makes the leap to vinyl with this killer compilation of ear-catching deep techno and electronica. Christ brings a bubbling range of synth tones to "Rom" before Norken and Nyquist drop some brooding electro tones over rolling beats on"Od Detot". Solipsism has a more sassy house sound to impart, while Nyquist goes into full electro mode on his own. On the flip, Analogue Audio Association have some edgy acid to throw down, Cyan341 brings a touch of boogie flex to the record and Mich Chillage rounds the record off with emotive outboard electronics of a reflective nature.
