Alarm Room
Cat: WPR 070. Rel: 19 Dec 23

Deep Dubstep
Alarm Room (3:33)
Basement (3:42)
Diego (3:36)
Kitchen (4:02)
Review: Siberian subs! New duo Wasta and Sector.13 make their debut on one of the UK's juiciest imprints White Peach. Four cuts deep, each one wonked and tricked out with stacks of swagger, the EP flexes with fire all the way from the mystic pipes and woozy blues of the opening track 'Alarm Room' to the aggy string-wrapped finale piece 'Kitchen'. Between we're treated to the smoky struts of 'Basement' and the jagged funk of 'Diego'. Each cut slaps with style. Don't press snooze on this alarm!

Off My Chest
Cat: WPR 053. Rel: 06 Apr 21

Deep Dubstep
De-Tu & Congi - "Off My Chest" (3:48)
De-Tu & Congi - "Shallow Waters" (4:17)
De-Tu - "When Will We" (4:09)
Congi - "Tides" (3:42)
Review: A big collaboration here that will appeal to fans of the deep dubstep sound. A duo from Nottingham, Gaz and Tulip aka Congi have appeared on Robin Dub, Yellow Flower and White Peach sister label Fent Plates. De-Tu from Bristol is comprised of Christopher Iona and Jevon Ives, who have had releases on Innamind and Infernal Sounds. The result is the meditative street sound of 'Off My Chest' with its emotive lyrical delivery atop. More knackered and introspective beats await on the sombre 'Shallow Waters' until De-Tu take control on the flip with the intricate polyrhythms of 'When Will We'. Congi then deliver something altogether different on the deep and hypnotic closer 'Tides'.

Dirty Dubstep/Trap/Grime
Oyuki (4:00)
You Don't (5:35)
Empress (4:01)
Ro$e Gold (5:13)
Review: Stockholm's Eva808 returns to the ever-juicy White Peach with her first full EP for the label. Following the damage and soul exploding sounds of her Encrypted EP last year, once again it's a woozy unpredictable affair: "Oyuki" is a seasick damager with its warped textured and slurring momentum while the string-snapping "Empress" is straight out of Hitchcock's playbook. "Ro$e Gold" and "You Don't" play perfect counterpoint as hazier soft-focus antidotes to her peaktime venom. The former is like being in a church under the sea while "You Don't" is like having honey poured in your ears. TIP.

Review: Oskar Allen and Luke Barnett are Glume & Phossa, but beyond that we dot know much about them, Musically this superb album shows that they bridge the gap between electronica, trap and hip-hop with plenty of slick and sleek minimal rhythms and glistening synths. There's a psychedelic edge to these sounds - hyper real melodies and warped vocal sounds - that makes it otherworldly and futuristic at the same tie as having the sort of nostalgic chords that remind you of a time you probably never actually lived. Brilliant stuff for either home listening or the dance floor.

Scurvy (4:46)
Sober (4:39)
Stripey T-Shirt (5:07)
Cop Something (4:48)
Review: Manchester's Kali returns to White Peach with four delicious dubwise treats. 'Scurvy' dodge the limes in favour of a big squeezy accordion and what it lacks in vitamin C it definitely makes up for in weight. Elsewhere 'Sober' hits on more of an instrumental grime type of vibe, 'Stripey T-Shirt' brings out the squeeze boxes again for another woozy oddity while 'Cop Something' brings the whole experience to emotional conclusion. Stunning.

Beast (3:23)
Nightcrawler (4:02)
Review: Sukh Knight on White Peach. The stars really have aligned on this one. White Peach's penchant for innovative newness and Sukh's nose for rolling funk that's rooted in the late 2000s style while never looking nostalgic or like its covering old ground: you already know how good this is. "Beast" is the deeper roller of the pair with its pneumatic, well-oiled rhythm flowing like lava and the bass purring beneath. "Nightcrawler" is an instant banger with its ruffage sandpaper riff providing dry gully slaps and cheeky grime bass ping-pongs on the ones and fours. Classic Sukh. Classic White Peach.

Barcode (5:01)
Missing Amsterdam (2:55)
Tasteful (feat Rygby) (3:46)
Review: Chonk Mob familia Koma joins the gang at White Peach with this far-out four-piece that showcases his broadest and most considered range. "Arrival" sets the scene with big cinematic pads, arpeggiated pipes and a mood that gets deeper and darker the more you stride into it. "Missing Amsterdam", meanwhile, shows a calmer Koma as we mooch to poignant chimes in the most contemplative way. Finally, the bashy steel drum twister "Tasteful" plays the consummate pudding course as Koma and fellow Chonkster Rygby serve up the final course of this exceptional feast. Koma back soon.

Informa (3:46)
Grand Line (6:03)
Vendetta In Space (4:40)
Falcon 2 (4:40)
Review: White Peach frontliner, London's Lington lays down his widest document to date. Hard and clappy through and through, this is straight-up undiluted instrumental grime for club. "Informa" brings the wave factor with its swooning synths while the string-laced "Grand Line" is much harder on the rata-tat-tat factor. The title track takes the prize for its slow-marching drama and thunder-drums ghosting from the corners before quickly retreating. "Falcon 2" brings us to a wonderfully sleazy close with big purple-funk feels on the flabby synth leads. Ready for take off?

Foretold (feat Ourman) (5:33)
Asakusa (6:02)
Mortician (3:58)
Grizzly (4:39)
Review: Now here's a Lofty story... A young Bristol artist makes his debut on Za's White Peach last year. 'Solstice', an EP that matches White Peach (and its brother label Fent Plates) in vibe, spirit and musicality. Now comes the follow-up 'Foretold'. Four more beguiling, highly musical and atmospheric 140 jams laced with plenty of eastern instrumentation; 'Foretold' (with Ourman) takes a well-used choir sample and sets the scene with some creeped out synth lines and trappy 808s. 'Asakusa' takes the mystical vibe even further with a big string line more of a classic deep dubstep feel while 'Mortician' just goes full-on suck-you-into-another-universe spell-binding mode. Thanks to its hairy bassline, 'Grizzly' concludes with bear swagger.

Embrace (3:53)
Joyless (4:56)
Daybreak (4:30)
Review: Longtime friend of White Peach, Lofty returns to Zha's label with four more pristine oddities and odysseys. Following where he left us with 'Foretold', 'Supernova' takes us back into the Berlin style of sizzling arpeggios and crisp futurism. It's backed up by plenty more heat from across the spectrum: 'Embrace' is a UK funky style twister, 'Joyless' nods at the Hyperdub style of UK bass with a strong nod to UKG while 'Daybreak' carries that cathedral-like euphoria up a notch to halftime pastures. Immense.

Solstice (4:40)
Desert Storm (5:06)
Nightfall (4:40)
Impetus (4:39)
Review: Lanky newcomer Lofty makes his debut on White Peach following his recent run of Bandcamp releases. Four tracks in total, here the young Bristol talent stretches his legs and runs us through his rootsical moods and sci-fi flavours. 'Solstice' starts the trip on a melancholy wavey one, all 808s and sad horns. Deeper we chew into the peach, we're hit with strong Middle Eastern spices on the sweltering march of 'Desert Storm', we crunch down on the stone with the mean, teeth-baring 'Nightfall' and spit it back out to the triumphant, trance-like euphoria of finale track 'Impetus'. Peachy.

Skanks (5:01)
Space (4:38)
OJ Simpson (3:42)
Review: ZHA's White Peach imprint continues to wade in the murkiest pools of bass, dub and grime. This time they're being led up the muddy path by Bristol's OH91. The lead track is straight-up deepness. All space and bass, the groove is created by woozy reverse tones shuddering rim shots. For more bounce head to "Space" where a two-step takes the lead and a bumbling sub follows dutifully. Finally we hit the Atlanta-bound 808 dynamics of "OJ Simpson" where the groove is as eerie and ominous as an unstoppable media swarm.

Review: Always coming with the juiciest and most forward-thinking takes on 140 music and bass culture, Zhu's White Peach operations have been setting the benchmark for many years. And this reissue is a kindly reminder of their consistency and future-focused nature. Originally released in the summer 2020, it's now rebooted on lush yellow vinyl and, from the stunning Indian strings on the skin-scorching opening title track to the last rippling bleep from the finale track 'Renegade', the sounds remain as ahead of their time.

Second Thoughts (3:53)
Mindless Mills (3:39)
Pocket Fruit (4:06)
Review: Hands up - this is our first brush with French artists Ourman, but we're already hooked. He has a clear love of UK sounds - dubstep, bass, broken beat - as they are the cornerstones of this new EP on UK label White Peach. He serves them all up with a deftness of melodic touch and plenty of cosmic aesthetics. 'Zengo' starts with screwing bass and sunny acoustic strings over a lurching beat, then 'Second Thoughts' is another hefty low end wobbler but with introspective melodies and bright flashes of colour. "Mindless Mills' is a darker UK stepper and 'Pocket Fruit' is the wispy, whimsical closer that will fit your heart with warmth and hope. A standout EP from a name we shall be keeping an eye on.

Windy (4:08)

Rub A Thug (4:06)
Polarised (4:25)
Review: Parisian producer Ourman has been touted as one to watch many times over the last few years, with plaudits arriving for his numerous low-key, largely digital-only releases. According to our research, this outing on White Peach is his first vinyl missive - something of a landmark for the up-and-coming Frenchman. There's much to admire throughout, with Ourman combining warm, deep, sometimes punishing sub-bass and crunchy post-dubstep drum rhythms with a variety of breezy, ear-pleasing melodies and instrumental flourishes. The best of the bunch is probably the exotic title track, 'Windy', which rushes along at a notable pace and boasts what sounds like Amazonian instrumentation (but most likely isn't), though the sparkling and deep 'Rub A Thug' and skittish 'Polarised' are also top-notch.

Meknes (3:57)
Sinning (3:32)
Vulgar (3:42)
Review: Last month rising star Ourman popped up on White Peach with his first solo vinyl outing. Here he returns to the very same imprint with another quality collection of heady twists on grime and dubstep. He combines deep, low-slung dubstep grooves with creepy melodies and intoxicating electronics on 'Namarie', before making great use of Arabic instrument samples on the more skittish and up-tempo 'Meknes'. Over on the flip, sweet and melodious deep dubstep number 'Sinning' is joined by 'Vulgar', a darker and more paranoid chunk of slow-swinging grime wobbliness. All four cuts are naturally blessed with serious bass-weight and a smoky atmosphere.

Tomorrow (2:45)
Review: No please, no thank you, no manners: rising Midland merker Sekko fires off a scorching four-tracker for the ever-juicy White Peach crew. Gully-minded grime beats fully-charged and fizzy, each cut is a physical head-roller: the pulsating kick drum rhythm of "No Manners", the theatrical strings and necksnap drums of "Militant", the trapped-out gun-toting iciness of "Boxes", the spacious introspection, wavey melody and elastic bass of "Tomorrow", Sekko's revealing deep layers right here. Crucial.

Review: Boo selector! Grime / UKG don Spooky updates his GHD series with four more long-awaited versions he's had on persy dub. First is a VIP of his still ice-cold take on MssingNo's "XE2", neatly complemented with the dope Capo Lee fronted version that's been requested for the best part of five years now. Flip for two more crucial weapons as "Run 4 Cover" gives us a stuttering funk-up of Ini Kamoze and the dramatic "Apprentice Riddim" gets us doing the air violin and drawing up business plans and sales pitches before we even know it. You're fired!

Review: .Grubs up groovers! Taiko gets his jig on with White Peach and he's serving up some crumpets. Linking with good friends and able chefs Ed Hodge and Sam Emery, 'Crumpets' is a beautiful funk cut that nods towards the vibes of Silki and Swindle. It's backed up by three more club-focused originals: the harp-plucking 'LM', the creepy, creaky floorboard groaning 'Rise Above' and the graveyard stalking 'We Do' Juicy peaches, each and every.

Wings (4:41)
Wahhh (4:42)
Fermata (4:40)
Czeck Mystik (4:44)
Review: After a debut EP in 2018 under this alias, Berlin's Yoofee went quiet until earlier this year. Then he served up three new EPs in quick succession, with this being the most recent on White Peach. It's a perfectly sweet and ripe four tracker that takes dubstep into deep and atmospheric new territory. 'Wings' kicks off with plunging bass and scattered toms with a lush flute line leading the charge. 'Wahhh' is then icy cold and sparse, with vocal yelps and a low end oscillation charging up the crowd. 'Fermata' is a shuffler, with a soft edged lead synth and glorious muted melodies and shimmering snares sounding like rain dancing on a roof. 'Czeck Mystik' closes down with a deadly sense of dread and paranoia.

Review: Following last year's celebration of his seminal "Pulse X", White Peach return to the don's small-but-perfectly formed vaults for an equally grand take on the legendary bounce-bass 4x4 cut from 2002. Short, sharp and such a joy to mix and cut, it remains just as crisp now as it did 14 years ago. But that's not to say a few contemporisations wouldn't go amiss... Hi5Ghost retains the depth plunge bass and 808 ricochet hits, Kahn & Neek throw in all the glitches and switches on their take while Astral Black's prize bang clapper brings SMS sexy back with his sub-heavy slight jukey version. Drink it up.

Snails (3:42)
Daisy (3:15)
Shattered (2:47)
Tunnels (3:00)
Review: More frequently spotted on one of his other labels - Naan - White Peach impresario Zha celebrates the label's 50th release his first solo EP on the label since 'Southampton Lengman' way back in 2015. Taking off where wonky, left-sided instrumentals like 'Floating' and 'The Tale Of She' left us, once again we're taking to pastures previously unexplored... 'Snails' is all detuned twangs and curmudgeonly bass burps while 'Daisy' is pure hip-hop in its dusty jazz tone and timbre. Meanwhile on the B, 'Shattered' captures the repetitiveness and discipline of a kata while 'Tunnels' digs us deep, deep, deep underground with one of the gruntiest basslines Zha's cooked up so far. Juicy.
