Auslander
Auslander (12")
Cat: VYG 04. Rel: 04 Nov 15
Electro
  1. Auslander (7:03)
  2. Auslander (PM dub) (6:57)
  3. Auslander (First Contact) (4:52)
Review: The full impact team behind Auslander count Wax'o Paradiso resident Andy Hart, 'Melbourne's number one party boy' Tom Lally and Fantastic Man among their numbers. Their self-titled debut comes via Hart's own emergent Voyage label and features a triple hit of bristling eponymous electro mood setters. Hogging the A side, "Auslander" is quite the cosmic epic at seven minutes, intensity levels deftly rising and falling as the track progresses with some fine arpeggio work on display. On the flip, the "PM Dub" adds a bit of grit into the mix along with the expected delay, whilst the "First Contact" version opts for a widescreen new age panorama.

Mistress In Your Mind

Deep House
  1. Island In The Sky (5:34)
  2. Sorayama's Fantasy (6:10)
  3. Vienen (5:58)
  4. Dachkammer (5:39)
Review: Having contributed a track to the split 12" that announced Voyage Records, founder Andy Hart has since largely focussed on building the label through some canny A&Ring that's seen singles from the likes of Harvey Sutherland, M5K and Urulu. There was the introduction of Hart's Auslander project with Tom Lalley and Fantastic Man in the label's 2015 output too, but the recently-settled Berlin resident hasn't offered up any solo output in some time! Which makes the clutch of brushed deep house burners that feature on this Mistress of your Mind 12" most welcome indeed Andy. There are hints that Hart's new surrounds and regular gigs in Berlin are starting to bleed through into his productions - see the heat-treated "Sorayama's Mistress" and full throttle percussive onslaught of "Vienen." It's a development we wholeheartedly approve of!

Deep House
  1. Neutron Capture (6:32)
  2. Lftrr (6:06)
Review: Melbourne's Andy Hart is known for heading up the Voyage imprint, which over the last few years has pursued the many shades of deep house with releases by the likes of Harvey Sutherland, Urulu and Youandewan. Here he inaugurates his new Voyager sublabel, which sees a noticeable change of tune. On "Neutron Capture" he delivers a slow burning deep space transmission aboard the acid express, while the functional B side cut "Lftrr" is a dubby and hypnotic techno jam suited to heads-down moments in dank warehouse spaces. If this is a sign of things to come for Hart's new outlet, expect a string of club ready and dancefloor orientated cuts.

  11. Tiles & Glass (3:34)
Review: Since making his debut in the early 2010s, Berlin-based American Steve Huerta has delivered a string of rock solid, dancefloor-focused EPs. On debut album "Junipero", he's decided to mix things up, delivering a warm, woozy, atmospheric and picturesque set of tracks designed to ease tired minds in the comfort of the home. There's a few nods towards the dancefloor present - not least the toasty and dreamy breakbeat house cut "All Wild Things Are Shy" and bustling "Waxwing Air" - but for the most part the set settles in to a comfortably melodious and gently enveloping blend of blissful ambient, dub-flecked electronic soundscapes, spaced-out IDM and intergalactic electronica. It's a hugely enjoyable journey.

Circling Architecture
Cat: VYG 12. Rel: 22 May 19
Deep House
  1. Circling Architecture (5:42)
  2. Engineered Ruins (7:43)
  3. Decompression (9:07)
  4. The Edgelands (5:26)
Review: Melbourne's Rory McPike wears many hats: whether it be Bleekman, Dan White or Pickleman - he certainly proves there's much diversity within his sonic repertoire. By comparison, his Rings Around Saturn alias hones in on his ambient and IDM influences, as heard previously on full length releases for Hidden Waves, Rhythm Works and Indole. Taking his bow on Voyage, we hear McPike venture into deep and introspective territory on the "Circling Architecture", featuring tracks such as "Engineered Ruins" with its intergalactic broken beat hypnotism reminiscent of Peacefrog's seminal back catalogue, the emotive "Decompression" coated with the aesthetic of Aphex Twin, and the slo-mo techno of closer "The Edgelands" which crosses into a deep and introspective territory that would work as well on the dancefloor as it would in the armchair.
