We're Rockin Down The House
Cat: TX 120. Rel: 23 Jun 14
Deep House
  1. We're Rocking Down The House
  2. We're Rocking Down The House (Down Break)
  3. We're Rocking Down The House (instrumental)
Review: The latest in the current run of Trax reissues reaches back to Adonis' second release back in 1986, and it never gets tiring marveling at just how on-point the man like Adonis Smith was in the earliest days of Chicago house. "We're Rockin Down The House" is as righteous an acid workout as you could wish for, featuring one of those all-time perfect basslines and a sizzling set of machine beats, while the central vocal sample comes on lurid in its choppy edits. On the flip you can enjoy the fuzzy chaos and stripped down beats of the the "Down break" mix, or swerve the vocal sample for the straight-up acid freakery of the "Instrumental".

Review: In this week's house charts, it's certainly Frankie Knuckle's "Waiting On My Angel" which gets the number one spot, and this is due to various reasons. First of all, this majestic piece of house music was made all the way back in 1985; yes, that's thirty years ago and the tune still sounds as fresh as anything played in the clubs today. Secondly, it's also Jamie Principle's first commercial single, and you can hear everything from David Bowie to Kraftwerk in the mix. Last but not least, it's produced by the late Frankie Knuckles, a guy who knew a thing or two about house music. Oh, and we forgot to say that you get three mixes of the tune, including the much sought-after dub on the tail-end of the B-side. You simply can't miss this.

Review: Trax, the original home of house music, gave birth to the biggest movement in club music since the dawn of disco. The famous Chicago house label, started in the early 1980s by Larry Sherman and Vince Lawrence, is responsible for the release of "Acid Tracks" by Phuture, "Move Your Body" by Marshall Jefferson, and many other records that shaped the Chicago and acid house sounds through till the early 1990s. We are proud to present this first series of 20 classic reissues coming out before summer. It features records by groundbreaking artists such as Jamie Principle, Adonis, Joey Beltram - all in their much sought after original versions - next to astonishing remixes by icons like Basement Jaxx, Claude Young, The Advent & more.

Review: Thank the stars for all these latest Trax reissues, for without them we'd be browsing Discogs and Ebay only to be disappointed at the absurd prices of the originals! There's not much to say about this EP, and Virgo as a whole, for that matter, other than they are incredible, influential and essential. Yes, we know, a predictable way to describe a Chicago house record from the late '80s, but the fact is that Virgo's productions still sound so fresh compared to and most importantly, imitated by most artists of today. All four tracks are Muzic Box classics, featuring the grittiest of beats, the funkiest of basslines and the most seductive of samples. If you don't know, get to know, and if you don't own, cop one on sight! This is Ron Hardy-approved material...
