Slow Down (5:07)
Review: Athlete Whippet's first outing on Toy Tonics, 2021's Vesta EP, offered a hugely attractive fusion of Berlin deep house nous and colourful jazz-funk/jazz-fusion instrumentation. This follow-up continues in a similarly vibrant vein, with the duo adding all manner of vocal and instrumental samples and a distinctive '80s boogie influence to their already rainbow-coloured trademark sound. Across the four tracks, the pair confidently skip between rubbery, summery house ('Noguiera'), thrilling P-funk/nu-disco fusion (the throbbing electronic bass, jumpy synth sounds, dreamy chords and tidy machine drums of 'Mesmerise'), cut-up boogie-house squelch ('I Think I See') and shuffling, breakbeat-driven deep house/synth-funk fusion ('Slow Down').

Review: Unwaveringly reliable house stable Top Tonics keep the good stuff coming this October as COEO steps up with an extra vibes four tracker. This is pure and unreserved house joy, music to party to without a care in the world. It's the bouncing drums and happy trumpets that make it so, with energetic piano stabs and driving bass all working to make you forget your woes. The music is nothing particularly new, but it is pulled off with such a sense of style and class that it's impossible to ignore. Whether all out and sweat inducing or ever so slightly deeper, we cannot get enough of these cuts.

Review: Following a recent dalliance with Brooklyn-based Razor 'N' Tape Reserve, COEO returns to the loving arms of Toy Tonics with another solid four-track excursion. Happily, they hit the ground running with the rushing positivity of "Mydonna", a bumpin' chunk of peak-time house goodness built around some superb disco samples and a bustling groove. The accompanying, "alternate cut" smartly emphasizes some of the original instrumentation, whilst adding some subtle swing to the disco-house drums. On the flip, you'll find the deep, smooth and sensual "Torrow", and the breezy, atmospheric, piano-laden shuffle of "Coast To Coast".

Review: For the fifth volume in their Tonic Edits series, the Toy Tonics crew has handed over the reins to label regular and sometime Razor 'N' Tape contributor COEO. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. Opener "Orlando Magic" offers a tightened up, re-arranged take on a killer chunk of highlife disco, while "Cabrio Magio" appears to be a tooled-up take on a killer South American disco stomper. On the flip you'll find the rubbery electric bass, Chic style clipped guitars and eyes-closed vocals of "1981", as well as "She Keeps It Good", a superb P-funk/boogie rework which sees COEO brilliantly tease out the groove via some seriously cut-up loops.

Review: Munich twosome COEO have long been a reliable source of hybrid nu-disco and house productions, with their releases on Toy Tonics being particularly good. Music For Friends, their first release of 2021, is another rock-solid collection of ear-catching cuts. The most incendiary, peak-time ready number is undoubtedly 'Voyager (Piano Mix)', a brilliantly rush-inducing slab of piano house revivalism with added nu-disco synths, though EP opener '25 Hundred Friends', a tough-as-teak blend of chunky deep house, fluid piano solos and warming jazz-funk instrumentation, pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'Slipstream' is a borderline Balearic chunk of dreamy and melodious deep house, while 'Midnight Visions' is colourful, emotive and musically intricate.

Review: Toy Tonics is a real favourite here at Juno - their house is always fresh, never cheap and often with an authentic link to the past. Next up they have London's Cody Currie serving up his debut long player. Lucas is a nice broad work that opens with some of the broken beat the UK capital is so well known for before progressing through loose house funk on 'Money,' percussive and soulful vibes like 'Red Hot' and steamy slow jams in the form of 'That Stick.' And that's just the first side of the first record with three more to come that are just as good.

Review: Toy Tonic always deliver interesting, functional, emotional house music and here comes another such serving from the so-far so-excellent Cody Currie. The opener is as deep and jazzy as they come, with rich chords and twinkling pads all floating way above a nice warm bassline. 'LS Anthem' plays with broken beats and warped chords that are woozy and rich as a spoken word sample brings a sense of cool. 'When The Time Is Right' then keeps up the magical Rhodes work and a soulful, shuffling groove before 'M9' picks up the pace a little without loosing any of the heart and version of 'Moves' closes in steamy fashion.

Review: Forging his craft on a penchant for re-edits, Fred Berthet has issued forth a healthy amount of discoid funk in a short space of time since first appearing on Superbreak. Now he has been snapped up by Toy Tonics to deliver this four track EP which is packed full of craftily deployed house groove with plenty of classic reference points, not least the unmistakable 20th Century Steel Band lick on "Venusian Missing". "Angels Behind The Bar" is particularly sharp with its rich spread of samples and engrossing synth stabs creating a neon-lit fantasy around a crisp drum arrangement.

Review: Gold standard house label Toy Tonics operates at what you might call the traditional end of the spectrum but always manages to find fertile new ground within that. This is another case in point, an excellent EP from Nathalie Duchene that gets the party vibes going from the off. 'Praia' is a hearty disco house serving with lashing of funk and an exotic vocal. The Yuksek remix is all big Philly strings and camp disco energy while 'Glatson' slips into a deeper, darker, more late night but still melodically cosmic groove. A Boom Bass remix then explores Mediterranean house soundscapes.

Review: Stefan Lindblom made his debut as Gome last year, serving up a colourful and vibrant EP on Toy Tonics rooted in the 'Munich Machine' productions of Giorgio Moroder and shirts-off Italo-disco. He flips the script a little on this equally as impressive sequel, kicking things off with the pleasingly sleazy, P-funk fuelled electrofunk workout 'Teach You', whose risque spoken word vocals are as seductive as they come. The tasty original mix comes backed with the sparser, slap-bass sporting 'Erobique Remix' and two bonus flipside cuts: the rushing, old school piano house/acid house fusion of 'Come On (Piano Mix)' and deep, TB-303 and vocoder-sporting electro number 'Electric Boulevard'

Review: Top draw house label Toy Tonics has recruited some new talent for the team. This Gome pair come from Hamburg and make happy house music with lashings of disco goodness that is inspired by the 1980 Italo and Munich disco scene. 'Fever (Of The Night)' opens up with some fantastic mic work and glistening melodies, then 'Bier & Gold (Vocoder Jam)' rocks an old school electro jam complete with vocoder vocals. There is sleaziness to spare on the dirty ghetto pumper 'Bier & Gold' then a two part 'Shrimp Cocktail' that gets you up on your toes with dazzling synths and retro-future grooves to bring in the fun times.

Review: Fresh from fine recent outings on Lovedancing and Quintessentials, rising star Felipe Gordon releases his first EP on Toy Tonics, a label he's been loosely affiliated with since contributing a track to a compilation style EP last year. The centrepiece of the 12" is clearly "Acid Party at Tuesaquillo", a cut that cleverly combines classic deep house elements (woozy chords, spine-tingling pianos) with the jacking rhythms and mind-altering acid lines of early Chicago house. While the track arguably didn't need remixing, we're rather enjoying the deeper, jazzier interpretation from Retrogott and DJ Qualle, not to mention the enveloping warmth of Seb Wildblood's Detroit Techno-meets-deep house rework.

Review: Toy Tonics output is not only reliable, but it is also hugely relatable for lovers of house music. It is steeped in classic tropes and real musicality but always has enough about it to stand out. Felipe Gordon and Bob The Egoist join forces for this latest one and cook up some real magic. 'Freedom' is a clipped and bumpy one to start with before humid organs and tropical percussion are finished with a steamy vocal on 'Don't Wanna Try It.' There is a coy funk to the bass twangs and lithe vocals of 'Sexy Trippin' while 'Expendable' and 'Time' offer more gems to this hugely fresh EP.

Food Of Love (DJ Sprinkles Deeperama remix)
Review: Berlin house head Hard Ton returns to the Toytonics label he inaugurated last year with another round of jacking 90s vocal house. "Food From Love" has all the electrofunk tendencies of his last Toytonics release, combining a raw drum machine rhythm with midnight keys and a rising arpeggio which perfectly complements the yearning Bronski Beat-esque vocal. "From Club To Club" meanwhile wears its rave influences a little more explicitly on its sleeve, with a bubbling acid line and neon house stabs popping off in the background, while the pitched down backing vocals offer a subtle contrast to its A-side companion. On the flip, "Food Of Love" is given a rather stunningly deep rework by the legendary DJ Sprinkles, who adds his own meandering bassline and latin percussion elements to give the whole thing a welcome bit of swing, before soaring off on an improvised piano line at the end.

This one is from Joel Holmes who is a 38-year-old American jazz pianist and four time Grammy nominee who was also the musical director of Carl Craig's Synthesizer ensemble. He opens up with a dazzling house number in 'It Feels Good', It's perfect US house complete with Detroit synths and a timeless male vocal filled with buttery warmth. Jazz keys com to the fore on 'Playing With My Mind', 'Pose' is more chord-led deep house of the highest order and 'Got To Survive' closes and a cute and romantic vibe. A sensational EP.

Review: Although it was established three or four years ago, it's only been in the last 12 months that Toy Tonics' edit offshoot Tonic Edits has really come into its own. The label's seventh missive is one of its strongest to date and comes courtesy of Berlin-based deep house stalwart Kapote. He kicks things off in style with the eccentric electrofunk brilliance of "Give It To Me" before diving into hybrid disco/P-funk pastures on the deliriously tongue-in-cheek silliness of "Pump It". Over on side B, "Grandmaster" is a fine rework of a strange, stripped-back early disco-rap tune laden with spacey synthesizers and clipped guitars, while "Pleasure" puts a new spin on a hazy, boogie-era cut by the band of the same name.

Strangers (instrumental) (3:53)
Review: Second time around for Kapote and Kosmo Kint's first collaboration, 'Strangers', which debuted as a digital-only single earlier in the year. This vinyl version doesn't boast the pair's original full vocal version, a revivalist boogie-meets-organic house delight, but Kapote's instrumental interpretation is tucked away at the end of the EP. Elsewhere, it's remixes all the way, with COEO delivering two different takes on 'Strangers': a bustling, synth-bass-propelled 'House Mix' full of swing and soulful vigour, and a killer 'Garage Mix' that's powered forward by a frankly filthy, speed garage style wobble bassline. Just as inspired is Andres's bonus 'extended remix' of the previously unheard 'Misbehave', a languid and laidback shuffle into organic house grooves, deep house keys, roller-disco friendly house beats and more luscious lead vocals from Kint.

In My Eyes (vinyl bonus track) (7:23)
Review: Andrea Pedra first donned the Kian T alias in January 2015, delivering a fine, digital-only debut for Toy Tonics. This return to the popular German deep house imprint follows hot on the heels of tasty 12" singles for Secret Reels and Big Bait Records. Title track "Room 69" is a warm and woozy affair, with drowsy vocal samples weaving in an out of a mix dominated by loose analogue bass, rich chords, spacey lead lines and hissing percussion. Munich-based Alkalino wisely pushes the bassline to the fore on his rolling, stripped-back remix. There's deeper, wonkier fare to be found on the flip, where the James Brown-sampling quirkiness of "Good Things", and acid-flecked deep house warmth of "In My Eyes" both impress.

Review: It's not often you get such heavyweight names as this together on one remix EP, so big up Toy Tonics for that. It is Kosmo Kint's originals that get reworked, first by house legend David Morales. He offers a club version of 'Invincible' that is soulful and rich in piano chords as well as big disco fills. His NYC mix pairs it back to a more deep house sound for the back room. Next up is lounge master Atjazz with a remix that flips 'Too Big' into something warm, cuddly and jazzy with finger clicks and golden chords. Last of all, US don Kai Alce adds his typically deep and dub spin to 'Fake Love.'

Each of the producers involved in this third installment predictably hit the mark, with Ponty Mython's trippy opener - think rolling tropical deep house with hallucinatory flourishes - expertly setting the tone. Fast-rising producer Kiwi steals the show with a low-slung fusion of dub disco and smacked out Afro-house, while the Barking Dogs join forces with Tom Trago for a seductive trip into cosmic deep house territory. Red Axes also do a terrific job turning Munk's "The Bolero Brunel" into a hazy chunk of nu-disco psychedelia.

On this one for Toy Tonics they open with the funky loops of 'Chunky Dip' which is light up with lush sax and chunky drum work. 'MPFree Now' is a gloriously airy soul sound with liquid bass and sunny chords while 'Hide & Seek' sinks into a deeper groove, but one still marbled with funky bass riffs and mellifluous chord work. 'House In The Hills' (with Tx & Jamie Lloyd) closes out what might be one of this pair's finest EPs.

Review: As a mainstay of the leftfield house community in the UK, Luke Solomon has plenty of experience to impart, and that's what shines through on this latest single for Toytronics. "Raw Feel" leads the charge with a heavyweight bassline and kooky percussive details that instantly mark out a distinctive dancefloor cut built to turn heads. Ricardo Baez brings a tougher slant to the track for his remix, making a punchy electro house turn out of the component parts. On the flipside "Louder Than Words" sports a gritty funk demeanour and plenty of squelchy sound design, leaving it to "Beyond Therapy" to shake things up with a techno treatment that heads into dark and moody pastures with an acidic finish.

The Tonic Edits series is a more recent expansion and this third volume keeps up the heat of previous transmissions. Arriving under the collective banner of the Toy Tonic DJs, contributions come from Ben Mono, DJ Steef, Maik Yells, and Black Loops & Gropina. Review: German producer Kapote has previously been involved in a number of Toy Tonics compilations, so it's little surprise to find him at the controls on Mushroom House, a rather fine trawl through the more Afro-cosmic and Balearic-influenced ends of the label's vast back catalogue. There's much to set the pulse racing across the set's two slabs of wax, from the rubbery, dubbed-out Afro-house bounce of Ponty Mython's 'Slippin' Into Darkness' and the dusty Afro-disco haziness of Munk's 'Nigerian Jam', to the intergalactic electro trip of the Asphodells' killer remix of 'The Circular Path' by the Deadstock 33s, and the deep space Italo-disco chug of Baldelli's sparkling 'Phobos (2020 Version)'.

Kapote kicks off with big silky strings and falsetto vocals that get you in a spin and further highlights come from Paul Older with his strident disco licks and a sumptuous and theatric rework of 'Sesso Spaghetti' from BPlan. For those who like their licks cosmic then Paul Odler's closing rework of 'Bye' is pure bait.

Review: Gomma played a vital role in the popularisation of the indie-dance explosion that happened some 20 years ago now. Best known for being spearheaded by US indie outfit LDC Sound system, it combined dance, disco, wave, post-punk and more into a party-ready sound that found favour with both ravers and guitar heads. This second collection from the German label highlights the best of music they put out back then with names like In Flagranti, label co-founder Munk, Nancy Whang & Bonar Bradberry and many more all present and correct.

Review: Toy Tonics has established itself as one of house music's most interesting modern labels. It deals in all the myriad niche styles with equal elan, and always manage to call upon producers with something original to add to the conversation. The musical take on house is exemplified again on this second volume off their Mushroom House series from Kaputt. There are bright, glistening melodic cuts from Harry Wolfmann, tribal grooves from Kiwi, deep basement tackle featuring Italian designer Mathew Burlon and typically balmy and elegant grooves from the always on form DJ Sprinkles. The whimsical charm and lightness of touch displayed by Art Alfie on 'Dance To The Conga' is also to behold.
