May I Say (4:16)
Things Get Ordinary (5:17)
Picazon (4:53)
Circumvent (5:34)
Review: It's been 12 months since Ramon Quezada's last solo EP as DJ Qu. "Heed The Message", then, is arguably long overdue. It's a pleasingly eclectic affair, with the A-side alone boasting both a funk-rock sampling deep house shuffler (the eccentric "May I Say") and a percussively wonky, undeniably druggy fusion of loose-limbed MPC drumming, sustained chords and woozy vocal samples. Over on the flip, Quezada continues to surprise, first by serving up the densely layered tribal drums and rolling jazz bass of "Picazon", then via the hazy, field recordings-laden dub techno/deep house fusion of atmospheric closing cut "Circumvent".

Techno
A Lucid (5:28)
Tape (5:12)
Review: As you'd expect from someone as experienced as DJ Qu, this two track, single-sided salvo manages to strike just the right balance between dancefloor weight, drive, and the kind of mind-altering weirdness that sounds so good in the early hours of the morning. This is particularly evident on hazy and heady opener "A Lucid", where off-key electric piano notes, weirdo noises, echoing percussion hits and mangled vocal snippets ride a wonky, bass-heavy techno groove. "Tape" is a little less brain melting and a touch deeper, but still makes use of wiggly acid lines, spacey stabs and reasonably robust beats. Like the A-side, it sounds like it is probably best enjoyed in a very dark room at five in the morning.

Liquid
Liquid Beats
Review: Whut!? DJ Qu, Peven Everett and Josh 'Blaze' Milan on a cut together? That's correct the latest Strength Music transmission pairs up label boss Qu with two of house music's most iconic names in Everett and Milan for the A Side two parter "The Way". On the opening version, Everett's fragile vocal, is the perfect foil for one of Qu's deeper spacious arrangements which is blessed by Milan's key playing skills, with the latter element even more prominent on 'part two'. Face down and it's DJ Qu in solo mode for the excellent "Liquid" which sees a mainframe of clipped percussion and gurgling analogue basslines lifted towards the stars by the most wondrous of Utopian synth patterns and gurgling analogue basslines. Do check the accompanying heads down, bugged out "Liquid Beats" version too. Big release from NYC!

Untitled (Hi-Life)
Soma
Raw 7
Review: DJ Qu - AKA New York-based producer Ramon LIsandro Quezada - has been doing his thing since the mid-2000s, delivering spacey deep house cuts that join the dots between the soulful warmth of Glenn Underground and the far-sighted futurism of Detroit techno. There's more stargazing fare to be found on his latest EP. "Raw 7" has a real sci-fi feel, with alien synths melodies and outer-space stabs riding a powerful, cymbal-driven rhythm. "Untitled (High Life)" is a little more relaxed, with picturesque electronic melodies complimenting a dense, afro-influenced house groove. It's floor-friendly enough, but positive enough for home listening, too. Finally, "Soma" is thrillingly deep, transporting listeners to the far reaches of the galaxy via endless chords and shuffling percussion.

Sway Zee
In This Society
Review: Strength Music finally returns to action with label boss, DJ Qu. Releases on the label are few and far between these days, so we're super psyched for this latest instalment. On the A Side, "Out" is Qu at his finest, giving us his usual fill of mesmerizing percussion and sophisticated use of deranged effects. Over on the flip, "Swayzee" goes deeper into the synth chords and takes a more meditative approach. Finally, "In This Society" takes a turn for the unexpected, as Qu places a weighty beat beneath what seems to be his own voice commanding the entire duration of the track. Great stuff as always from the NYC don.

Redtones (6:05)
Sadness In The Static (1:57)
Sweaty One (5:05)
Review: By his own prolific standards, veteran deep house/techno producer Ramon Lisandro Quezada - better known since 2005 as DJ Qu - has been rather quiet of late. Having released just one single in 2014, he returns in early 2015 with one of his strongest EPs for some time. Several bases are covered on the Redtones EP. Contrast, for example, the drifting, sci-fi chords and dense, deep house goes tribal rhythms of the title track, with the picturesque pianos and crackly samples of downtempo bonus "Sadness In The Static". Best of all, though, is "Sweaty", a formidably wonky fusion of psychedelic electronics, trippy effects and throbbing, grime encrusted house beats.

No Poetry (5:43)
Brut (5:01)
In Trance (5:04)
Seespotrun (4:57)
Review: Following a surprise two-year hiatus, Strenth Music Recordings founder Ramon Lisandra Quezada - known to you and me as DJ Qu - returns to action. While his productions are rarely less than solid, there's something particularly impressive by the variety of tracks served up here. Contrast, for example, the fiendishly druggy and wonky early morning techno throb of "In Trance", with the skewed, sample-heavy, tooled-up late night deep house of funk-fuelled opener "No Poetry". Note the differences, too, between the bouncy, percussion-rich drum workout "Brut" and closer "Seepostrum", a brilliant fusion of broken, military-sounding drum work and loopy, head-in-the-clouds motifs. While there may be plenty of subtle eclecticism on show, all four tracks are aimed squarely at peak-time club plays.

Conjure (5:43)
Review: Five years on from the release of his debut album, Gymnastics, Ramon Lisandro Quezada finally serves up a follow-up. Conjure is a fine set that neatly showcases the varied sides of the prolific deep house producer's output. So, we get Iberican tribal drums fused with hazy trumpet solos ("Feed Off Of"), dreamy ambience ("Candlelit"), groovy downtempo beats (the hip-hop influenced "Supafly"), sumptuous and sensual dancefloor deepness ("Lotus (In Memory Of)"), and dark, intense, occasionally dubbed-out late night business ("Whistle Song", "Visitation", the stripped-back hip-house of "Toc"). There's little in the way of filler or fluff, and plenty of playable, club-ready material.

What We've Concluded
Mixing Room
Review: The third and final 12" release from DJ Qu to accompany his Gymnastics album arrives bearing yet more stripped back brilliance from the man otherwise known as Ramon Lisandro Quezada. On the A Side you'll find the moody, almost Sandwell District shuffle of "Thrilla" co-exiting with a deep house jam from Underground Quality impresario Jus-Ed, who managed to worm his way onto the album! Flipping over, you'll find the lush Detroit chords of "Opened Arms", a sample of Resident Advisor's Todd Burns extolling the virtues of DJ Qu on "What We've Concluded Thus Far" (definitely the album's funniest moment) and the cold, calculated mood "Mixing Room".

Prayer
Review: New Jersey based house don DJ Qu recently dropped his debut album, entitled Gymnastics, on his Strength Music label. In addition to the CD release we're also treated to three separate 12" releases featuring album tracks. The first instalment opens with broken piano keys battling for your attention with the slick beat which forms the rhythmic backbone of "First Down". Our favourite part is the breakdown, which truly showcases the gritty nature of the drum programming before the piano comes back with one final flourish! Next up "Juicyfruit" has a distinctly tougher edge to it, with gurgling vocals buried beneath mechanical loops and hissing atmospherics. Flip over for "Babyluv" and "Prayer" with the former's almost Joy Orbison style vocals offering a nice contrast to the latter's moody techno thump.

Willie Graff & Tucillo - "To The Music" (DJ QU remix) (6:15)
DJ QU - "Figure Six" (5:14)
Review: DJ Qu's Strength Music returns with more darkroom dubs. On the first side, we have Spanish-American producer Willie Graff once again collaborating with Italian scene stalwart Giuseppe Tuccillo - following up some great music they've done for the likes of Freerange, Local Talk and Finale Sessions several years ago. Rest assured they're in top form again on "To The Music". But it's boss man DJ Qu's remix up next that will entrance you with its rich tapestry of immaculate rhythms, reaching near tribal moments. On the flip, he serves up a new original in the form of "Figure Six" but instead this one is a brooding, tunnelling, heads-down affair for the late night.

Pixel Music - "M-Theory"
Nicuri - "Thoughts Of You"
DJ Qu - "Undescribed (Believer)"
Review: Four years on from the previous instalment, DJ QU's Strength Music returns with a third edition of their Semesters series, with contributions from Pixel Music, Nicuri and QU himself this time around. Leading the way is "M- Theory" from Pixel Music, a lesser spotted alias of Italian producer Massimiliano 'Hazylujah' Vianello which selfishly grips the entire A Side and quite rightly so as it's a potent production filled with mind bending potential. Having recently flirted with Joey Anderson's Inimeg operation, Nicuri returns to the Strength cause on the B Side offering the pensive deepness of "Thoughts Of You" whilst DJ QU signs off the 12" with the bugged out beat down of "Undescribed (Believer)" which is what Parliament would be making if they were to surface in today's sonic climate.
