Review: Fresh from high-profile collaborative sets with Metro Boomin (2020's Savage Mode) and Drake (2022's Her Loss), 21 Savage has finally delivered a new solo set for the first time in six years. We say solo set; as is the way with blockbuster hip-hop and r&b albums, the set contains a strong cast list - Metro Boomin, Doja Cat, Travis Scott and Young Blud included - while thematically it offers insight into the UK-born, Atlanta-based MC's journey across the pond and eventual rise to stardom. His rhymes are more honest and "real" than ever before, while the luxurious and expansive musical backdrops combine punchy trap beats with carefully selected samples, sweeping orchestration, and the kind of big-studio production associated with rap and r&b's most high-profile artists.

Review: Hip-hop star and 'mumble rap' pioneer, not to mention all-out legend, 21 Savage delivers his third full-length studio album, American Dream. Coinciding with a new, forthcoming biopic about his life - American Dream: The 21 Savage Story - this is probably set to be the rapper's most forthcoming and acclaimed album to date. Having shouldered a fraught early life prior to his rise to stardom in Atlanta (Savage, real name Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was born in Plaistow, London, to parents of British nationality and Caribbean heritage), Savage's earliest days are a hot topic when it comes to the theme of shaken personal identity and the double consciousness of immigration, a topic not commonly explored in contemporary hip-hop (it should be). Already lauded as the project through which Savage divulges all, this album serves as a birds-eye view of his history and a defiant rejoinder to the American ICE's misguidedly loaded statement, 'this whole public persona is false'.

Review: Acclaimed synthpop trio A-Ha are teasing their latest album, not to mention independent film, 'True North', in what might just be the band's most crowning career achievement thus far. Their first project since 2015's 'Cash In Steel', it's high time they reined in on their success to do some good; the album and project is a relentless paean for the frozen magnetic north, and its ecological importance in connecting us to the environment.

Review: Following up the worldwide smash Back In Black was going to be a tough job for anyone, but AC/DC brought the big guns in - more specifically, the big gun on its cover, which we also get to hear in full explosive effect on the album's title track, the kind of epic most bands save for their closer but here designated the opening tune. While it's fair to say not as many of the tracks here made it into AC/DC classic territory as on its predecessor, the sound of the now Brian Johnson-fronted team in full power mode dishing out groovers like 'Let's Get It Up' and 'C.O.D' is pretty irresistible, while 'Breaking The Rules' marks new ground for them - a slow motion, headnodding anthem with the band's long running anti-authoritarian stance writ large upon it.

Review: The Australian rock gods' third album is one of their most varied in moods and displays a new found confidence in their sound, with songs like 'Squealer' and 'Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)' containing rolling instruemntal section where the band hit a trademark riff and interlocking groove and simply let it ride. From the title track, with its sleazy tale of cash for violence, to the Stones-esque 'Problem Child' and the frenetic 12-bar closer 'Rocker', the band's closing song in their live set for many years to come, this is the sound of a legend being forged.

Review: If you want blood... well, we all know what comes next. AC/DC are among the most marmite of stadium-sized rock bands, their consistency over the past six decades seen by some as relentless homogeneity. In reality, it's an auteur signature. We know, within three chords of school uniform-clad Angus Young's iconic Gibson, whose song, it is yet to the trained ear there are huge differentiations at play. From drawly blues through to seismic main stage energy. Highway To Hell is one of the group's seminal early outings, and any self-respecting fan should own it already. Although perhaps not in this stunning gold edition, released to celebrate the LP's 50th anniversary. Newcomers can expect an insight into the barrooms filled with sweat and spilt drinks from which this mega group came out of and a clue as to why Bon Scott, the lead singer who tragically died as they really hit fifth gear, will always have a place in our hearts.

Review: It's 1977 and AC/DC are not-so-fresh after a spell as the support on Black Sabbath's tour. Looking for a new bassist, after a disagreement over whether to pick Manfred Mann's Colin Pattenden, the band agree on Cliff Williams, who would remain in place until 2003. Recording what became Powerage, their fifth studio album, Atlantic Records soon complained there wasn't a sellable lead single. 'Rock 'n' Roll Damnation' took form, one of the group's outliers, which comes without standard guitar solo but with maracas and hand claps. While this proved divisive among die hard fans, the album itself has gold waiting to be discovered deeper down. 'Gimme A Bullet', for example, has been cited as the finest track the late Bon Scott would write, his lyrical flair and deft metaphorical wit shining through on a tune that won't let up. This was his final LP, and tragically three years later he was no longer with us, marking an end to the group's iconic first chapter.

Review: Celebrating half a century of rock legacy, AC/DC's Back In Black gets a special edition release some 44 years after its original unleashing. The iconic album is well known for its thunderous riffs and anthemic choruses and though it is very much of its age, it solidified AC/DC's status as one of rock's greatest bands, despite the appearance of flat capped Geordie Brian Johnston in place of Bon Scott, who died tragically in 1980. With hits like 'You Shook Me All Night Long', live favourites 'Hells Bells' and 'Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution' and the title track, the album reached all-new heights of rock energy and big riffery and now this anniversary edition offers a fresh perspective on a timeless classic while showcasing AC/DC's enduring influence on the rock landscape.

Three decades later their seminal sophomore effort, Dirt sounds as good as it ever did and gets an anniversary reissue to mark the occasion. It comes with plenty of powerful drums and big-ass basslines as well as yelping vocals and fuzzy textures that take in a range of emotions and even bigger riffs. This issue features a special insert and comes across four sides of vinyl so it's nice and loud, just as intended.

Review: Andre 3000s 87-minute flute epic makes it onto a double CD courtesy of Sony. One of the most intriguing, enveloping and therapeutic LPs of 2023, New Blue Sun sees the Outkast veteran drop the mic in favour of myriad flutes, both digital and acoustic, creating a loose, patient album which sounds somewhat like the lovechild of Jon Hassell and Ras G. The whimsically named tracks unfold in a languid dream sequence, feeling improvised but focused, sparse yet dense, and deeply emotive throughout. 3000's far-from-virtuosic flute performances add to the charm and unpredictability of the album, and ensure that the overwhelmingly gentle music doesn't veer too far into vapid new-agery. One for yer pensive off-days!

Review: Was anyone ready for one of the most talked-about albums of the year to be Andre 3000 going ham on the flute? Probably not, but in a post-reality world New Blue Sun just slots right in. Of course the legions of Outkast fans are going to be split when an artist of such prominence takes a wild swerve into experimental musical pastures, but for those with an open mind or a pre-existing appreciation of ambient and leftfield music, this album is an easy sell. Teasing the tension between acoustic and electronic, ancient and hypermodern, grounded and ethereal, Andre has been bold and honest in presenting this album to the world and his gamble has paid off.

Review: Fiona Apple's debut album, Tidal, was released in 1996 and has since gone down as one of the foremost examples of the experimental pop artist's style-unto-no-other. Bringing the likes of 'Shadowboxer', 'Sleep To Dream', and standout 'Criminal' to the forefront of the contemporary imagination, the album functioned personally as a proof of talent: in Apple's own words, she was "proving myself, telling people from my past something. And to also try to get friends for the future." If Apple's pre-emptive lonesomeness wasn't assuaged after this album's release, we'll eat our hats. Its ten tracks singles portray Apple's young-adult angst against a predominant trip-hop backstyle, flaunting her palmy and present vocal delivery in particular.

Review: Fiona Apple's 2005 album, Extraordinary Machine, is a unique blend of alternative and pop sounds flaunted from the upbeat 'Not About Love' to the gentle 'Parting Gift'. Coming a whopping six years after her incendiary sophomore When The Pawn... album, the release was notably shafted for two years after its intended release in 2003, inciting some speculation around the album's - sigh - commercial appeal. The impetus to release the album was ultimately fan-led, and led to a full-blown re-record by Apple, not to mention an all-out frenzy on the P2P and Torrenting scene.

Review: Fiona Apple's fourth studio album, originally released in 2012, features 'Werewolf,' 'Hot Knife,' and opening track 'Every Single Night'. Now reissued via Sony, we're reminded again of Apple's surrealist, melancholic fantasy; from the opening breakup single, which stops and starts with virtuosic restraint and metric indeterminacy; to 'Valentine', which continues Apple's preference for huge chords and piano-bound ballads, as she laments her inability to resist tarrying in youth; this is quite literally a run-on sentence in album form, with Apple compellingly putting across a restless persona, unable to settle into contentment.

This being the queen of pop's first album in over six years, some naysayers say songs like 'Break My Soul' (filled with 90s organ and downtempo kicks and snares a-la Robin S) and 'Energy' (packed with batida stylings) are paint-by-numbers, but we beg to differ; for Beyonce, it's a polyglot of reinventory music.

Review: Not too long ago, the prospect of pop-punk legends Blink-182 reuniting with founding vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge was nothing more than a fanboy pipe-dream. Originally going on indefinite hiatus in 2005, leading to the formation of subsequent new projects (Angels & Airwaves, +44), before reforming in 2009 for a comeback tour and the eventual release of the criminally underrated Neighourhoods, DeLonge would depart yet again, leading to an era of divisive lukewarm reception from the fanbase while Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio would fill DeLonge's place for the band's next two full-lengths California and Nine. In the years since, vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus overcame his battle with cancer, leading to another, perhaps more organic and mature reconciliation process. The resulting turmoil has ultimately led to One More Time; the trio's ninth LP overall and seventh with DeLonge (following Skiba's amicable departure). Taking cues from their vastly differing side-projects, and distilling a myriad of sonic experimentation into a rejuvenated formula, the material here marks the most potent and dynamic work from all involved to date, while also boasting the first producer credit for drummer Travis Barker (who has previously worked with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Aaron and Goody Grace). Reliably juvenile yet deeply mature, progressive, punk and pop in equal facets, this is the LP lifers have been begging of the pop-punk overlords for many a moon.

As much as their old albums remain favourites with fans, One More Time is another brand new work from the reunited outfit and was made by the band's classic lineup of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker. It has the feel of a celebration of his legacy and work, with s guests delivering hard-hitting lyrics and thoughtful flows over backing tracks that flit between sparse, distorted heaviness (recent single 'Beach Ball'), snappy, horn-sporting post-crunk weightiness ('OK') and G-funk influenced future party jams ('Luxury Life', with its aquatic P-funk bass and dusty, golden era drums).

Review: After an explosive announcement trailer showing American MC legend Busta Rhymes on a four way call with some of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time it's hard not to be excited: Pharell Williams, Timbaland and Swizz Beats. His 11th studio album. Busta is indisputably one of the top 50 MCs of all time, a gracious and benevolent force in the industry that has played a hand in Miss Elliot's career, as well as a host of others on his self-founded label Conglomerate. Busta is no nice guy though, with a spine-chilling level of raw talent he's one of the smartest to hold the mic in our time. If 2020's 'Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God' is anything to go off, expect a star-studded line-up, with that album having appearances from Eminem, Mary J Blige, Rapsody, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Q-Tip, Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey, Rick Ross and more. When Busta knocks, you answer. Even Timbaland bows to the king: "I'm so grateful that you chose for me to be a part of your legacy".

Review: CAKE are a stalwart alternative rock band haling from Sacramento, USA, known for dealing in an all-American identity yet throwing something of a curveball with it. First released in 1998, 'Prolonging The Magic' carries such greats as 'Never There', 'Satan Is My Motor' and 'Comfort Eagle', locking in a mix of electronic beats and alt-rock. It's somewhere in the central intersection of the venn diagram between The Smashing Pumpkins, Fatboy Slim and Lambchop, if you will. 'Short Skirt/Long Jacket' sums up the band's humour value nicely, with sampled drums and an optimistic funk backing laying claim to a slick and dry sound. This reissue cements the band's legacy and remarketability for the present day.

Review: If there was ever an artist suited to a posthumous release it's Leonard Cohen. The gravel-voiced baritone never made light of situations in life, so "voice from grave" fits him down to the ground. Moreover, if there was ever an artist we needed more music from it must be Cohen, one of the most gifted songwriters of the 20th Century, poet laureate of the human condition and the good and evil men and women do. This collection of leftovers from a relentlessly incredibly career has been pieced together with a little help from friends and family still cursed to walk this troubled Earth. Son Adam Cohen led on the project, with former-collaborators such as Beck, The National's Bryce Dessner and Feist called in for services. Not that you'd tell. The finished product is timeless Cohen business - a gentile and humble powerhouse you can't help but feel profoundly moved by.

Review: Miley Cyrus is by now something of a young veteran of the global pop scene. Endless Summer Vacation is her eighth studio album and one that finds her fully leaving behind the upstart attitude with which she emerged. Here she pens a "love letter" to Los Angeles, which is where it was written, with producers such as Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson and Greg Kurstin all contributing. The lead single 'Flowers' set all-new streaming records as well as being Miley's first ever number one on the Billboard Global 200. The album is deeply personal and ushers in this new Miley era in style.

Review: It's already been a full decade since mega pop star Miley Cyrus went on a crash course to shatter her Hannah Montana image with the "controversial" Bangerz. Cropping her hair to near skinhead levels, endorsing free love and marijuana usage, and shooting an array of music videos that became viral hits thanks to endless twerking and nakedly riding atop a wrecking ball, the era was a ludicrous yet retrospectively vital time in the pop icon's career. The semi-aforementioned 'Wrecking Ball' would become a global smash hit while 'We Can't Stop' and 'Adore You' also made for chart-toppers that led to the album becoming an assured outlier in the once Disney-approved songstress' catalogue. Celebrating its ten year anniversary with a sea glass double LP reissue, there's never been a more ideal time to revisit this array of transformative, carefree bangers.

Review: The fourth and final studio album from the now disbanded French electronic duo, Daft Punk, Random Access Memory gets a re-release on Sony complete with an exclusive poster and 16-page booklet. This release pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music, particularly the sounds hailing from Los Angeles at the time. For this seismic album, the band developed and enriched the minimalist production style typical of their previous releases though collaborating with session musicians performing live instrumentation, limiting the use of electronic instruments to simple drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser, and their signature vintage vocoders. Spanning an impressive selection of genres from disco, to prog rock and pop, the album also boasts a serious list of chart-topping collaborators - from Nile Rodgers, to Pharrell Williams, to Giorgio Moroder. Featuring hit single, 'Get Lucky', this album is already considered a defining release of the 2010s pop/electronic landscape.

Review: It's difficult to ignore the sobering realisation that the swan song LP from French robo-duo Daft Punk is already celebrating its ten year anniversary. Although divisive amongst their fan base, the organic instrumentation and compositional homage to retro disco still feels like an artistic endeavour the pair of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo needed to add to their back-catalogue before graciously bowing out (or powering down) on their own terms. Following an expansive deluxe edition released earlier in the year, this drumless version strips away any and all notable percussion to offer the velvety basslines, glistening synths and lush grooves a chance to take centre-stage. With re-imagined approaches to hits such as 'Instant Crush' (featuring The Strokes' Julian Casablancas) as well as the plethora of Pharrell Williams collaborative bangers from 'Lose Yourself To Dance' to the once inescapable 'Get Lucky' (also featuring Nile Rodgers of Chic), this project is a unique and vital addition for lifers, newcomers and boogie enthusiasts alike.

There can be few figures in jazz as iconic as Miles Davis, and for very good reason. Perhaps it's down to his restless innovation, moving through so many different eras and epochs as he explored the limits of tradition and skill, redefining the entire culture in the process. Unafraid to take huge risks and with an unapologetic personality to match his creative gifts, his legacy is quite simply phenomenal. As with any legend with such an extensive oeuvre, it can be hard to know where to start but fortunately this finely curated compilation provides a perfect overview of one of the most important figures in jazz.

Review: 32 years on from the release of their debut album Speak and Spell, Basildon's finest drop their 14th full length. While there are echoes of their eyeliner-wearing, synth-bothering futurist past (see the glitchy "My Little Universe" and early New Order-ish "Broken", where Dave Gahan sings about 'dreaming of the future'), for the most part Delta Machine finds them in grinchy synth-rock mode, presumably shaking their fists at passing youngsters like a gang of grumpy old men. Thankfully, they're still capable of great things - "Soothe My Soul" has echoes of "Personal Jesus" - and there's enough to suggest there's some life in the old dogs yet.

Review: The vast array of Depeche Mode originals cover plenty of ground and many years of hard and critically acclaimed work. As such they're a gold mine for artists looking to add their own spin and plenty of the most ear-grabbing of those radio, dub and club mixes are collected together here on a rather epic seven slabs of wax in one bumper box set with a poster and digital download. Works by contemporary artists like Trentemoller and Justus Kohncke sit next to techno titans like Ben Klock, trance mainstays such as Sander Van Doorn and even EDM stars like Laidback Luke. A varied mix with something for everyone.

Review: You can always count on Depeche Mode to do things differently. Never content to play it safe despite their position as a global superstars, as the 80s turned into the 90s they collaborated with celebrated filmmaker Anton Corbijn on the music videos from their albums Music For The Masses and Violator. The first set were gathered together at Strange in 1988, with the follow-up released as Strange Too in 1990. In between the music videos for megahits like ‘Personal Jesus’ and ‘Enjoy The Silence’ were additional vignettes and incidentals, all filmed by Corbijn on his trusty Super 8, and the end results have become synonymous with the Mode’s visual aesthetic. Now both films have been gathered together in one handy Blu Ray package, digitally remastered without losing that all-important grainy finish.

Review: When Depeche Mode teamed up with Anton Corbijn to make some music videos, few could have predicted the end results. If you ever thought there’s an artful consistency to the Mode’s music videos from the late 80s and early 90s, it’s because Corbijn filmed them all on a shoestring budget on his trusty Super 8 camera. The resulting pieces were strung together as vignettes forming a larger cinematic experience which was released in two instalments - Strange and Strange Too. Originally released on VHS and Laserdisc, the films have finally been bundled together, digitally restored and presented in this DVD box set with bonus material.

Review: Guillermo Del Toro's take on the 'Pinocchio' story - a stop-frame animation affair that relocates the action to 1930s fascist Italy - has been widely praised since it dropped on Netflix earlier in the year. Plenty of plaudits have been directed at Alexandre Desplat's soundtrack, which combines original music with brand-new musical-style songs. As this CD edition of the soundtrack proves, the Oscar-winning composer delivered one of his most magical scores to date, with picturesque, musically detailed instrumentals being joined by genuine 'earworm' songs performed admirably by the film's voice cast (see Ewan McGregor's rendition of 'Better Tomorrows', veteran British actor David Bradley's tender take on 'My Son' and Christoph Waltz's villainous version of 'We Were a King Once'.

Review: Although artists often claim not to read their reviews, Doja Cat clearly does. Scarlet, her fourth album, is a direct reaction to criticism of her rapping and the pop-leaning nature of her later work. So while she does sing at times, it's her sassy, confident and dextrous verses - alongside beats and basslines rooted in r&b and hip-hop, with plenty of high-profile sample flipping thrown in (see recent single 'Paint The Town Red', which utilises elements of Dione Warwick classic 'Walk On By'). The results are undoubtedly remarkable and -in her words - "masculine", with highlights including the strutting and insanely weighty 'Demons' (whose lyrics are a direct attack on critics and misogynistic male rappers), the Rotary Connection-goes-r&b shuffle of 'Attention' and the deep, head-nodding wooziness of 'Balut'.

Review: Icelandic pianist and composer Eydis Evensen's sophomore album The Light is a further expansion of her sound that not only offers her arranging and playing skills but also for the first time her lyrical creativity. The artist herself cites the theme of the rough and rugged landscapes of her native Iceland and how they have shaped her personality as a big influence on the record. It is one of hope that brighter times are ahead even though life might be dark right now. The album was written while she was going through a period of closure and relief and that really shines through.

29 Palms Highway (3:19)
Palomino (3:20)
Review: It's always pleasurable to watch a band grow into themselves, realise early promises and fulfil potential. It wouldn't be over-egging it to say that Palomino, the fifth album from Klara Soderberg and sister, represents that moment for First Aid Kit. The Swedish indie-pop siblings have been courting praise and attention for years now, but there's always been a sense of not quite being ready for the big time, until now.

LP five is an altogether freer record, to say the least, and as such represents the pair growing into their own skin and finally having the confidence to step out of it. Laid bare, we're given meditations on mid-road trip break ups, self-acceptance, emotional doubts and redemption. Familiar themes, yes, nevertheless everything here is dealt a refreshing original hand.

Review: Remarkably, the last Foo Fighters retrospective dropped way back in 2009, so this career-spanning 'best of' is undoubtedly well overdue. As a starting point for exploring their catalogue - or, for confirmed fans, having all the band's best bits in one place - The Essential Foo Fighters does an excellent job. There are naturally plenty of grungy, high-energy, guitar-laden alternative rock smashers present - 'Rope', 'Monkey Wrench' and so on - but also nods towards the more classic rock-orientated end of their work ('Cold Day In The Sun', the Beatles-esque 'Big Me'), punky and funky indie club anthems ('All My Life') and a smattering of acoustic and semi-acoustic gems ('Waiting On a War' and a wonderfully sparse, folksy take on 'Everlong'). Like Ronseal products, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Review: They're a Marmite band no doubt, especially among those who followed the altogether more deviant and dengerous Nirvana that brought FF frontman Dave Grohl to the world's attention initially. But there's no denying the fact that the Foo Fighters' anthemic, surging power chord pileup of a sound has turned them into a prospect that - whether live or record - now massively eclipses their predecessor in popularity. This is the definitive double-LP compiliation of all of the Foo Fighters' most essential cuts, including 'Everlong', 'Monkey Wrench' and 'Rope' and many more.

Review: Recorded in the wake of drummer Taylor Hawkins death, Foo Fighters 11th studio album has been trailed as their "most personal yet". That's understandable, and lyrically Hawkins' tragic demise looms large - at times, the songs sound like the band going through the grieving process in public. It's a bold statement, with music - produced by long-time collaborator Greg Kunstin and featuring Dave Grohl on drums - that self-consciously references the raw energy, fuzzy riffs, and sweat-soaked energy of the band's 1995 debut album. Only time will tell where it sits in their catalogue - in terms of greatest moments, at least - but on first listen it's a raw, raging, melancholic alt-rock masterpiece.

Review: But Here We Are is the new album from Foo Fighters, and marks the band's return after a year of staggering losses, personal introspection and bittersweet remembrances. Evidently a well-justified most-personal-album-yet moment for Grohl and co., the album follows the untimely passing of the band's longtime drummer and founding member, Taylor Hawkins, in 2022. Murmurations that Foo Fighters were going to be an entirely different band going forward have now been proven correct: while noted to have been intentionally made to channel the naivete of their debut namesake LP, songs like 'Rescued' and 'The Teacher' also bring several decades' worth of 'maturity' to theirs sound. They add a new, central theme: the fleeting nature of life.

Review: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's hard hitting sophomore album Bandana has proven a real hit over the last five months. Now though, many fans get what they have been waiting for; an instrumental version that pairs things back to the essential beats. It makes for a record that covers plenty of grind - from sunny day and feel good instrumentals to much rawer, harder hitting beast that arm with attitude even without the explicit vocal deliveries. Plenty of the soulful samples remain in situ to help colour things and make this such a characterful record.

Review: Soulful, fuzzy, funky punks Gossip reunited in 2019 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their critically acclaimed fourth album Music For Men, which ultimately ballooned into a worldwide tour. It would be a full year later, at the tail end of 2020 that iconic lead vocalist Beth Ditto would tease on her Instagram that she and her bandmates were in the studio cooking up some new goodness. Another three years on, just last November, avid fans would finally catch official word of Real Power; their sixth full-length overall, and follow up to 2012's A Joyful Noise. Marking their second reunion and first new material in well over a decade, if the menacing post-punk of 'Crazy Again' doesn't grab you, then the glitzy gospel-disco banger of a title-track surely will. If neither do, are you even a Gossip fan?

Review: Ranked among the 25 greatest guitarists of all time by numerous list-making taste makers and titles, among them Rolling Stone magazine, Buddy Guy should need absolutely no introduction after spending almost 80 years putting out music and playing it on stage. With such a storied career, the smart money is on him being able to call some pretty special talent in for a new album, and for his 19th studio long-player that's exactly what happened.

Produced by Grammy-winning rock and county legend Tom Hambridge, who himself picks up multiple instruments for multiple tracks here, The Blues Don't Lie isn't re-writing any rules, and nor should it, with Mavis Staples, Bobby Rush, Elvis Costello, James Taylor and Wendy Morten among the guests helping to make this the most authentic blues record you'll buy all year.

Review: The self-titled debut album by Whitney Houston was released when the singer was just 22 years old, after mega-producer Clive Davis scouted her at a dive bar performance in New York City. It permanently branded the New Jersey-born music legend's name onto the map, despite initially lukewarm sales, and obviously Houston went on to become the bestselling female album of the 1980s. With classics such as 'How Will I Know', 'The Greatest Love Of All' and 'Hold Me' all appearing, this 2023 reissue cements the legend's most enduring ballads once more.

Review: If you aren't a fan of Whitney Houston then who even are you? Years after her tragic passing she remains an icon of soul, r&b and pop. One of the best voices of her, and any, generation, she proved that early on with this 13 times Platinum album that also reached Diamond certification. This was her debut and was also the first female solo album in history to ever generate three number-one singles in 'Saving All My Love,' 'How Will I Know,' and 'Greatest Love of All.' The album hit number one in the album charts and stayed there for a mightily impressive 14 weeks. This reissue is well worth having, then.
