Review: Returning to Something for another collection of idiosyncratic house moves, STL collects another six productions from his seemingly bottomless trove. "King Slide Shuffle" coats a mid-tempo groove, growling bassline and eerie strings in an ample coating of dust, while "Please Wait" combines a jazzy double bass riff with snappy clockwork percussion. "Loon Side Drift" meanwhile is characterised by its tribal house undertones, and unusual synthetic pan-pipe tones (somehow they do work, honest), but it's "Stay For Me" that particularly impresses; taking pitched chords and cluttered drums, the producer crafts one of his most satisfyingly deep productions to date. Being an STL 12" it wouldn't be complete without some cheeky locked groves, which are as left of centre as you could expect.

Review: Stephan Laubner re-emerges with Cosmic Fluke, only his second STL transmission of 2013 on his own Something label, gathering together another selection of ramshackle house moves and grooves from his deep archives for the 22nd of the vinyl series. Having developed a distinctive sound under the STL banner, Laubner doesn't attempt to deviate from his signature approach of four raw beaten down cuts complemented by two locked grooves. Lead track "Body Musique" teases out a jagged hook over suitably dirty drums, whilst "Phasendreher" is pure freaked out mind -f*ck material. The drop to a more slouching tempo on "Loop A" feels like a slack jawed Madlib instrumental whilst B Side opener "Loose Orbit" is the most overt example of Laubner marrying abstract rhythmics with sumptuous textural detail on the record and is a real highlight.

Review: Stephen Laubner continues to demonstrate a singularly unique take on electronic explorations as STL, presenting When The Time Has Come his third, richly rewarding EP of 2011. Present here are Laubner's irregular experiments with looped arrangements, with four super fine locked groove musical indentations opening this EP. Those whose are scared of infinite concepts will find solace in the sumptuous "Walking Blind" with trademark gloopy percussion soon joined by decidedly flatulent keys, swooping spectral pads and typically fractured textures. The flip brings more loose limbed analogue joy with STL laying down swerving vocal snatches and staccato kicks that scratch the lower reaches of a delightfully hollow beat on "Death Proof" whilst the more streamlined "Supersonic" throbs delicately at your senses.

Review: Stephan Laubner is a productive sort. It's not long since he delivered the impressive At Disconnected Moments full-length for Smallville - or, for that matter, a pair of impressive 12" singles for Lick My Deck and Echochord - but he continues to churn out the hits. This expansive EP for his own Something imprint touches on many of his usual themes, casually flitting between spooky ambience ("LSS Recording"), hazy dub techno ("Intergalactic Quannum Web"), and curiously imaginative, off-kilter deep house (the woozy chug, humid melodies and dub techno textures of stand-out "Monkey Island"). He's also included an impressive trio of loops for DJs to play with, which veer from manic ghetto-glitch ("Loop 1"), to Casio-ware techno ("Loop 3"), via blazed hip-hop ("Loop 2").

Review: ** STL REPRESS ** Once again two flying something objects are located in the orbit, waiting for permission to land on your turntables and in the lay-by of your recordbag. This time with 13 pieces of STL deep shakin house madness, mindscratching lo-fi grooves, cranky energized synth activities, dope loops and sound effects. All pressed on a delicious double vinyl album with a limited printing of 500 covers! The music is all hardware based and sequenced. Recorded in live sessions without any computer arrangements. Surely the style is not for everyone and compared to others, probably seem to be a bit stubborn, unconform and sometimes just different. But it's always true spiritual. An open minded artform with the sense for functionality. Every track is talking to you in musical form without any barriers straight down to your feet and feeling. As in all something releases there is much sound personality and imagination inside, giving the listener a ticket to the fascinating world of beat orientated something music. Get on board and enjoy the trip.

Review: Just weeks after Stephan Laubner's album debut on Smallville - and subsequent joint-Something release - the reclusive German responds with an EP that's a little more broken beat and downtempo than his dub techno inspired At Disconnected Moments. Replete with his usual loops, "Into The Rain" is a gloaming stroll through haunting textures and chiming percussion, while the slow beat patterns and tense atmospheres of "Psychelicious" sound like an early Wu-Tang instrumental in some passages. On the other side, "Deep & Slow" is again a simple and fun, but a melancholic hip hop loop, while "Computer Attack" proves that STL not only loves his hip hop, but knows how to produce it back to front.

Review: Even by his own prolific standards, Stefan Laubner has been pretty darn busy so far this year with an album length debut on the Smallville label swiftly followed by the second of two releases on his own Something operation. New STL material always seems to bring something new to the table, despite the reclusive German's distinct style and defined approach and that much is evident on Time Is Just An Illusion. The usual combination of extended productions and run out groove hugging loops is present, with lead track "Star Child" Laubner at his most melodically enriching. A skittering rhythmic arrangement on "Loop A" precedes marauding release highlight "Knowledge" which you can already see Ben UFO pulling for.

Review: The prolific Stephan Laubner starts 2016 how he ended last year and all the ones before it, firing up the shuttle for a trip into deep space. He begins with the groovy deep house beats, looped-up acoustic guitars and supernova synth solos of "Musika", before increasing the percussive pressure on the low-slung, drum-centric box jam "Rhythm". The B-side sees him deliver one of his trademark dub disco epics in the shape of the oh-so atmospheric "Lonely Nights", while "Why R U Scared (Of Things You Don't Know)" is a tribal-influenced drum track wrapped in feverish field recordings. An expansive EP is completed by a string of loops and interludes, which should be of great use to creative DJs.
