Get Down (7:18)
Carpet Ride (6:41)
Review: American dance music legend, spiritual explorer and soul encyclopaedia Joe Claussel also of course runs the Sacred Rhythm label, where he serves up an endless amount of vinyl gold. This Special Edits series does exactly what says on the tin and the seventh installment is another one that takes you to a steamy Brooklyn dance floor sometime in the past. Fusion jazz and soulful disco styles define each of these tunes, neither of which are very well known, but both of which will bang, particularly the funky bass and icy hi-hats of 'Get Down' that are combined perfectly with Philly style strings and golden chords.

Disco Afri Co Co (long version) (6:36)
Review: Joe Clausell began this project in 2005 and still it keeps giving. An evocative fusion of afrofunk and disco inspiration, most of us assumed his decade's work had culminated last year with the album Makussa. We were wrong; this year he's delivered a series of heavily requested extensions, this beautiful slice of string-surged disco being the most recent. The extra two minutes are exactly what the DJ needs for a much roomier groove that allows the salubrious elements to really strut; the shimmering guitar, the strident strings, the insatiable afro-infused drums. Just when we thought the original couldn't be topped... We were wrong. Again!

Sangre (10:05)
Review: Tribal, physical, psychedelic: Joe Claussell's Bolla project is one of his finest creative accomplishments for many fans, and his album Afrikan Basement: Makussa is the gift that keeps on giving. Having previously leaked limited 12"s, Joe's label Sacred Rhythm does it again with another super-limited, one-sided press. Hooky, insistent and far-out for the full 10 minutes, this is shaman material right here. Do not sleep.

Joaquin Joe Claussell Presents The Unofficial Edits Overdubs & Unreleased Remixes Of Michael Wycoff & Brian Auger's Oblivion Express
Brian Auger's Oblivion Express - "Whenever Your Ready" (8:49)
Michael Wycoff - "Come To My World" (6:45)
Review: Ahead of Paul David Gillman's album on Sacred Rhythm, Claussell takes the time to present two celebratory takes on two stone cold fusion classics. The Latin keys, trembling organs and emphatic harmonies of Brian Auger's "Whenever You're Ready" are subtly charged with Joe's signature percussive magic, creating a sense of momentum that refuses to detract from the original magic while Wycoff's cult gospel-tinged funk "Come To My World" reminds us of his work on Stevie's legendary Songs In The Key Of Life. Subtly amplified and extended, Claussell has blessed us with an ultimate end-of-night gem right here.

Simple Things (Joaquin Sacred Rhythm verison)
Simple Things (Joaquin Drum dub version)
Review: A Latin-licked soulful house groove laced with Balearic guitars and Roland at his most falsetto, this first came our way in 2006. Originally released with remixes from Quentin Harris and Kenny Dope, then later Blaze, it takes a bold producer to add to its heritage. Cue: Sacred Rhythm label boss Joe Claussell under his Joaquin guise. The Sacred Rhythm pays respect to the samba spirit while adding hypnotising, organic piano flows. Meanwhile his Drum Dub adds massive Puerto Rican horn-drenched carnival vibes. Both versions are faultless.

Review: We should all be thankful that one of house music's true greats, the legendary Joe Claussell, continues to grace us with his personal treasure trove of edits. As someone who has lived and breathed seminal dance music through countless decades, his knowledge and sensitivity for the sound and culture is second to none. Having dropped a second compilation of his Unofficial Edits & Overdubs, he's now offering up the companion 7" which features two inspired treatments to get you popping, dipping and spinning. First up is the Afrobeat-tinted funk of "Double Fault" by Danny Tone, and then comes a classic dub out of Ecstasy, Passion & Pain's "Touch & Go".

It All Began In The East (The Cosmic Arts Meditational mix) (3:18)
Review: Two years ago, Joaquin "Joe" Clausell donned his occasional Mental Remedy alias and offered up "A Journey To Noi", a decidedly spiritual album that mixed Japanese instrumentation with his usual ambient and deep house sounds. On this 12", Clausell offers up some heady new interpretations that - like much of his work over the last decade - are built around the percussive power of African rhythms. The opening "Sacred Rhythm Version" of "It All Began In The East" is particularly potent, with Clausell cloaking a warm, organic and percussive Afro-house beat in distinctive Japanese Koto melodies and jazzy piano flourishes. We'd also recommend the formidably heavy, drum-laden rework of "Dance For Gratitude", whose Latin American bassline and simmering synth-strings are almost as addictive as the weighty groove they sit upon.

Review: Some six years after releasing a limited-edition collection of reworks from his bulging archives, spiritual house maestro Joaquin "Joe" Clausell serves up a sequel. Broadly speaking, the New York-based producer's fine revisions fall into two camps: faithful and reverential re-edits with minimal additional instrumentation (see his ace edit of Methusalem's "Robotism", a spaced-out tweak of disco-boogie epic "Let Me Be The One" and the spiraling San Fran disco madness of "Hot, Hot (Give It All You Got)"), and house-focused hush-hush re-interpretations (the incessant sax loops, bustling bass, wild organ riffs and jacking beats of "Conversation" and more soulful flex of "You Just Can't Smile It Away"). More importantly, all are superb, club-focused revisions that sound like peak-time anthems in waiting.

Review: If you're wondering what you'll find within the grooves of this vinyl double-pack from Joaquin "Joe" Claussell's Sacred Rhythm label, a cursory glance at the title should fill you in. As it states, what's on offer here is extended versions of some of the most popular unofficial "edits and overdubs" reworks. Of particular interest is his utterly insane 10-minute rub of Czeslaw Niemen's "Zi Listu Do M", a quirky chunk of experimental jazz that Claussell has magically re-imagined as a wonky, soft touch house track. There's plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere, too, including a Balearic disco style take on Fleetwood Mac, a thumping revision of GB Experience's "Disco Extravaganza" and a wonderfully sweaty and percussive revision of The Impossible Dreamers' exotic "Life On Earth".

Review: Given his strong faith and decidedly cosmic approach to music, it's perhaps not that surprising that Joe Clausell's latest project is a mix of gospel music. What's perhaps most interesting about Praise 2 (In Praise of The Sun) is the variety of the material on offer. Gospel has long been a cornerstone of black American dance music, and Clausell wisely tries to tell the full story. So, while there are crackly early gospel recordings from the 1930s, gospel-funk from the '60s and all-acapella recordings, he also touches on disco, boogie, soulful house and 80s gospel soul. The result is a riotous mix that's as entertaining as it is righteous.

Review: Like many DJs with production nous, Joaquin "Joe" Clausell has always made re-edits and remixes to play in his sets. From time to time, he releases these on CD under the Unofficial Edits, Overdubs & Unreleased Remixes header. This fourth volume in the occasional series boasts plenty of gems reflective of the producer's influences and inspirations. So, while "Life Another" sees him deliver an extra-seductive version of a D'Angelo modern soul gem, the track that follows, "Fuego" is a superb Afro-house interpretation of a forgotten Osibida cut. Elsewhere, you'll find a thrusting, peak-time revision of Giorgio Moroder, a thrillingly spacey chunk of dub disco, and a couple of rock solid disco-era soul revisions.

Lavish grooves, rich instrumentation, precision curation and grooves so uplifting you need lead shoes to keep you attached to the earth. As with 2014's inaugural collection, once again we're treated to the full spiritual spectrum from his epic take on Barbara Mason & Bunny Sigler's already beautiful "Locked In This Position" to a cathedral level take on The Fifth Dimension's "Aquarius", this really is a special (not to mention highly limited) 12".

Review: Every time that we get a drop of some new Joaquin Joe Claussel material our ears are automatically attracted in that very same direction. In fact, we've been known to get into trouble for playing his material extensively on our Juno HQ system, because we just hate to see it leave. However, this new material is probably not what you're expecting; rather than a new house EP, Mr Claussel has prepared a nerd's guide to sound testing, described by himself as: "DJ tool for testing, measurement, and calibration of mediocre reproducing stereo sound systems". The elements inside the box are flex-discos, not vinyl, and they are a series of sound, spoken word lyrics, and general FX tricks to either test your system out on, or simply sample and twist-up however you please. It's a collectors piece, and something refreshingly different to support the development of good music in clubs. We love you Joe...

Review: Joaquin Joe Claussell's Unofficial Edits & Overdubs Special Extended Versions series rolls on with a fourth of six parts. It's proven a real gold mine so far, with endless amounts of gospel tinged house and super spiritual grooves getting all who hear it to a high state of consciousness. There are plenty of jazzy overtones to the opener here, 'Come Sunday', which is laden with afro percussion and big horns. It's a steel drum affair on Pheeroan Aklaff 's 'L' that is brilliantly tropical, then there's trident funk from The Kay-gees and a lush bit of fusion from the ever excellent Leroy Hutson.

Review: Joaquin "Joe" Clausell has been using the Bolla alias to deliver authentic blends of indigenous African music and winding deep house since 2005, though it was only earlier this year that he released the project's debut album. This 12" boasts extended, club-friendly versions of tracks from that full-length, the impressive Makussa. There's much to enjoy, from the toughened-up Afro-disco revivalism of "Disco Afri Co Co (Extended Version)", and intense, deep space drum workout "A Means of Communication (Freaky Dub)", to the trumpet-laden Afro-house niceness of "Wandolo Feat Bonga (Freaky Dub Extended)". There's also a fine trip into downtempo pastures in the shape of "Ninaitwa (Called By The Drum)".

Review: While it initially started as a compilation and DJ mix series, Joe Claussell's gospel-focused Praise project has now spawned a string of EPs featuring rare tracks and new 'edits and overdubs' reworks by the Sacred Rhythm founder. The latest instalment begins with a wickedly percussive, predictably righteous live recording of a gospel slammer by Bishop Jeff Banks and the Revival Temple Mass Choir, which Claussell then turns into a 14-minute epic. He builds from a sparse, twinkling, piano-heavy start, before introducing weighty house drums and wild organ solos as the track progresses. Over on the flip it's all about 'God Helps Those Who Help Themselves', a turn-of-the-80s gospel disco slammer which Claussell successfully extends (the 'Edits and Overdubs Main' mix) and then dubs out (the accompanying instrumental).

Review: If the rich history of US gospel soul, funk and disco gets your juices flowing, you need this new 12" from Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell in your life. As with many of the storied producer's edit-focused 12" singles, it has been pressed in limited quantities and should therefore be grabbed before all the copies disappear. On the A-side he offers up a tidy, dancefloor-focused tweak of Crowns of Glory's hard-to-find 1976 gospel soul cut "Lord, Look At Your People", brilliantly teasing out the intro before unleashing the song in all its inspiring righteousness. Over on the flip Clausell turns his attention to the Clavinet-heavy, Blaxploitation-era gospel disco anthem that is Keith Barrow's equally as inspired 1977 gem "A World Of Lonely People".

Review: For anyone with even the smallest interest in gospel music and its relationship with black American dance music, Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell's "Praise" series of mix CDs should be essential listening. Volume six, subtitled "A Prayer For Peace, Love & Wisdom", is every bit as inspired as its predecessor, with Clausell moving between traditional choral gospel music, gospel soul, and soul-jazz, deep house and disco (including Crown Heights Affair's incredible "Say A Prayer") featuring suitably righteous lyrics. To tie the whole thing together, Clausell has also included a number of inspirational and thought-provoking spoken word samples taken from recordings of preachers and black community leaders. It's a brilliant touch.

Review: Tom Moulton's fabulous mix of Love Committee's "Pass The Buck" was never given a proper 12" release back in 1978, instead making its way onto the band's debut album, "Law and Order". Here it finally gets an airing across a side of a record, with a new "edits and overdubs" revision by Sacred Rhythm boss Joaquin Joe Claussell on the flip. The latter builds on the soaring, grandiose power, swirling strings and urgent group vocals of Moulton's classic version, building from a layered, densely percussive start towards a sweaty conclusion via waves of instrumentation, swirling synthesized strings and everything-but-the-kitchen sink production. It is, then, a thoroughly brilliant rework of a classic - if under-celebrated - disco cut.

Review: More from Joaquin "Joe" Claussell's ongoing "special" overdubs and edits series, in which he offers up tastily tooled-up and subtly reworked gems from his personal stash of reworks. On side A you'll find his fine version of The Singing Fools' "Love Is A Beautiful Thing", a mid-tempo turn-of-the-80s Canadian disco jam that chugs, rises and falls all in the right place. Over on side B he delivers a stomping, house-style fusion of two killer cuts from the El Coco catalogue: "Afrodesia" and "Coco Kane". Claussell has some fun dubbing out key passages - the familiar string section in particular - over a sweaty beat. As far as we can tell there's no vocal, but that's no bad thing.
