Wan Poku Moro (One Tune More) (Radio Slave extended edit) (9:59)
Wan Poku Moro (One Tune More) (Riva Starr remix) (6:12)
Review: 2000 And One is one of many artistic alter-egos of Dylan Hermelyn, the Netherlands producer whose credits stretch as far back as 1990. A staple of the Amsterdam techno scene and a prominent fixture of Dutch House generators 100% Pure and later Delsin, Hermelyn's contributions at the very least verge on timeless and closing track 'Wan Poku Moro' from 2009's full-length album, Heritage, is among the top contenders for this crown. The track is a bongo-laden bustler full of the lively implied sounds of city life and clocks in at eight minutes in its attempt to reach the awesome heights of the house music sublime; here, however, comes Radio Slave and Riva Starr on this Rekids reinterpretation, both of whom pare the track back to its bassiest and pulsiest constituent parts, albeit to their own ends.

Review: Chicago based but Ukrainian-born Alinka steps up to the mighty Rekids with another standout EP that shows she has a unique, melon twisting sound. It kicks off with the full throttle 'Teacher's with jacked up drums and percussion. 'I'm Your Ghost' then layers in circling acid lines and old school bass while 'I Still Believe' lats the spirits with its trippy synths and sci-fi melodies all bring a subtle sense of party and joy. Closing out this punchy analogue EP is '909 Lives' with more potent drums and rugged grooves.

Review: Mark Broom's Mutated Battle Breaks series is proving to be some of the most inspired music from the UK techno stalwart in years. When you're getting a Mark Broom record you expect a certain degree of techno functionality, but here he's ladling the rock solid rhythms with serious funk and flair. The offbeat synth groove of 'Tube' feels like a nod to Robert Hood's pioneering style, but Broom does plenty to jazz the music up in his own way. 'HF2 (Bass Line Mix)' features some cheeky acid and a subtle swing to the hats which will get you locked in hard, and then 'TEST25' fires off an absolute stormer with some of the toughest finger-clicks you'll have ever heard in a peak time techno monster, laden with disco string stabs.

Techno
Klashjamz (4:44)
Showtime (4:32)
HighNRG (5:04)
Jazz Ting (4:57)
Review: Mark Broom is one of the mainstays of the global underground. The UK titan has a recognisable take on house and techno genre that is underpinned by slamming kick and that comes to bare once more now as he lands on fellow legend Radio Slave's Rekids label. These four cuts bring a more house feel to start with as 'Klashjamz' layers up disco strings and vocals into something joyous. 'Showtime' has a garage slip to the loopy, silky drum rotations and 'HighNRG' throws it back with big stabs, percussive drums and chopped up vocal shards. 'Jazz Ting' is an aptly named closer with plenty of steamy sax notes of raw, loopy grooves.

Catch The Heat (Nic Fanciulli remix) (6:20)
Catch The Heat (Frankey & Sandrino remix) (6:41)
Review: Denney has always done a fine job of being a seemingly ever-present name without ever getting huge headlines. That can be a help to an artist's career, frankly, because those who are hot one minute are often not the next. Anyway, he shows his class is permeant with this new single on Rekids. 'Catch The Heat' has a throwback feel to it - steamy and warm pads, chunky mid-tempo drums and an impassioned vocal that reminds of Renaissance-era Sasha and Digweed. Nic Fancifully works it into a more straight-up tech cut and Frankey & Sandrino bring some progressive melodic magic to their version.

Sophisticated Funk (4:56)
Review: Oliver Dollar sure knows how to cook up a catchy hook and he has done so many times before on several labels. For this one he lands on Berlin mainstay Rekids and brings a very different sounds to the label's norm. Opener 'Strings For Life' is lush, airy and golden with rich strings soaring high above a soulful, rolling and simple but effective house groove. 'School Daze' is a loopy one with funky bass, jazzy chords and more timeless house drums all topped off with a retro vocal sample. 'Sophisticated Funk' is just that with its balmy and summery loops of filtered house goodness. Joyous tunes for sure, these.

On My Mind (5:02)
U Gotta (6:58)
Review: Here's something we didn't expect: an outing from noughties dance music star (and now long-serving producer) Nic Fanciulli on Radio Slave's Rekids imprint. A-side 'On My Mind' has the feel of a genuine peak-time club smash in the making - a rolling, bass-heavy disco-house excursion that peppers a muscular, non-stop groove with cut-up vocal samples from what sounds like a classic soul record of the 1970s. As you'd expect from a producer of Fanciulli's experience, the track does all the right things in all the right places. He goes deeper, darker and more hypnotic on flipside 'U Gotta', wrapping sustained note synth-strings, echoing female vocal snippets and peak Tenaglia synth stabs around a weighty, dubby, Twilo-inspired NYC house groove. It's a pleasing blast from the past.

Review: Italian techno trunculator Marco Faraone returns to ask: 'Any Good Vibe?' It's a good question, because truly good vibes can be hard to come by nowadays, not least in today's socio-economic-political climate, and Faraone proves himself more than able to channel this feeling of ambivalence, with his three newest tracks - the title track, 'Ego Kills' and 'Ghana' - spanning moods of both stress and joy in equal measure. Via these massive-room stonkers, suitable for both beachside shindigs and warehouse parties of dubious legality, we must indeed ask - where are the good vibes, if not inside ourselves?

Review: Eddie Fowlkes has a hit a proper purple patch lately, bouncing from one essential release to the next and getting deserved props after pioneering Detroit house techno from day one. Fresh from a release for Classic, he hops over to Rekids to lay down more of that idiosyncratic gear that will instantly catch the ears of even the most nonchalant barfly, as 'Bahama Man' springs through infectious swing, a rubbery bassline and steady rising tension. 'Follow Me' is classic Fowlkes house pump, all looped up and fiery, primed for the peak time. 'Chi 2022' takes it deeper thanks to some washy, dubbed-out chords and then 'Cube' completes the picture with a naughty little riff to get people grooving down low, packed full of the personality that only Fowlkes can bring to a tech house tune.

Feelin' Good (Radio Slave remix) (7:48)
Feelin' Good (Radio Slave Revenge remix) (5:17)
Review: Old school meets new school here, as French techno stalwart Laurent Garnier joins forces with rising star Chambray for a cheery, glassy-eyed workout on Rekids. In its original form, "Feelin' Good" is a rushing chunk of piano-driven techno positivity, where sparkling riffs, fuzzy analogue electronic motifs and nagging electronics burst through a tough but squeezable techno beat. It should be an essential listen for all those hankering after something that recalls the celebratory glee of the early '90s while sounding suitably contemporary. Label boss Radio Slave steps up to remix, first re-imagining it as a dreamy but powerful jack track, before embracing his inner hardcore hero on a breakbeat and piano-heavy flip that's as rush-inducing as triple dropping the strongest happy pills around.

Sugar (DJ Deep remix) (10:32)
Review: Some breathless, energy-packed, party-starting brilliance here, as rave-loving Londoner HUD makes his Rekids label debut. In its' original mix form, 'Sugar' is a dirty, atmospheric, breakbeat-driven peak-time house bomb packed with jangling paino riffs, filthy bass and punchy beats, all topped off with a fantastically weary and emotive female lead vocal. Predictably, the accompanying remixes are pretty darn tidy too. Mark Broom delivers a storming and pumping techno version - all thunderous kick drums, breakbeat blasts, lilting lead lines and bouncy pianos - while DJ Deep gives the track a slight hip-house feel via funky breaks, cut-up, Todd Edwards style vocal cut-ups and chunky bass.

Review: Matt 'Radio Slave' Smith's Rekids label is always good value when it comes to useful and contemporary club cuts. Katerina provides more great evidence of that with this fresh 12", One. The title cut managed to be both dynamic and driving yet also nice and heady with well-crafted ambient synths floating round up top. Aleksi Perala remixes with a more trippy sense of melody and faster drums, then 'Papu' ups the ante as B-side jams tend to do. Last of all is the majestic 'Look Into My Eyes' with its wispy celestial chords and stripped-back minimal rhythms.

Review: Radio Slave's Rekids remains right at the forefront after decades in the game. That is no doubt in part down to great recruitment of new talent who keep updating its signature sounds. This time out Hilit Kole makes a debut with 'Hot Mess,' a raw and jacking house cut with rugged drum loops and a sleazy vocal that turns into an epic wail. An Even Hotter mix brings more libidinous vocal overtones and then the one and only Mike Dunn remixes. Firstly he keeps it smooth and seductive, then pairs back the vocal to allow his lithe synths to shine. A nice varied package from all.

Review: Nina Kraviz is one of global techno's most recognisable names and biggest headliners by now. But many years ago, when she was still not long finished with her dentist training, she was a little-known underground artist sneaking out superbly subtle and smoky house jams on labels like Underground Quality and Rekids. It is the latter label where she served up 'Taxi Talk', which features her own vocal musings and whisperings recorded late one night on a taxi journey. It is paired with trippy synth motifs and a swaying, stripped-back groove to make for something impossibly intimate. This reissue also comes with a twisted tech remix from David Lohlein and disco-fried venison from Sterac Electronics.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight tear in top of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Second time around for Nina Kraviz's key early single Pain In The Ass, a two-tracker that was originally released on Rekids way back in 2009. This edition has been pressed to brilliant white vinyl, though otherwise it's the same as the original 12" release. That's no bad thing though, because the title track is a particularly druggy, wonky and out-there chunk of after-hours sleaze, with Kraviz layering ghostly electronic stabs and her own spoken word vocals over a sparse-but-heavy tech-house groove. Original B-side 'I'm Gonna Get You' is a slightly dreamier affair, with Kraviz singing over squelchy synth-bass, sustained deep space chords, chiming melodies and more stripped-back beats.

Review: Radio Slave's Rekids welcomes a Detroit house master in Monty Luke for what is a comprehensive excursion into deep house across nine exquisite new cuts. Dub, techno and more all help colour these soundwaves and first up is the shimmering electro rhythm of '40 Acres & A Terabyte' while 'Nightdubbing' gets more zoned out and smooth as it comes alive with shimmering synths over rolling beats. Elsewhere are more grinding groves like 'Starstorms' which recalls the early work of Carl Craig and 'Avant-Garde Dance Hall' is a deft dub workout.

Radio Slave - "Don't You Know"
Review: Radio Slave has really amped up his relasing game lately, and it shows on 'Wait A Minute', his latest collaborative release shared with rapper Nez. The eponymous track has been out for a while already, and actually doesn't appear in its full original form here, with the A instead occupied by a stonking remix from Dixon - which fleshes out the track in the vogueish mode of harder-hip-techno. Radio Slave also offers up 'Don't You Know' on the B, a vocal soul sample-inflected floor infector of the hypnotising variety.

Review: Well, well, well, we didn't expect this one: Radio Slave in piano house mode. The man who has made a career off dark, rolling, wall-rattling and proudly linear techno releases on his mighty Rekids label shows a totally different but equally essential side here. 'Strobe Queen' is a slow burning, slow-release pleasure built on low-slung mid-tempo drums and overlaid with glorious piano chords that speak of joy and happiness. Eric Kupper removes a little of the polish, ups the dust and adds his own vocal mutterings over the top for something more zoned out.

Review: Radio Slave's most recent single, the trippy, string-laden and subtly disco-influenced deep house after-party workout 'Wake Up', gets the remix treatment, with two artists renowned for delivering delightfully wayward dancefloor epics at the helm. Kompakt favourites Superpitcher steps up first, placing the original's oddball (sampled) spoken word vocal atop a hypnotic, subtly changing bed of acid motifs, warming chords, hypnotic house drums and delay-laden Rhodes chords. Over on side B, the Idjut Boys retire to their shed, potter about a bit, and return with a typically mind-mangling, dubbed-out take that's most likely amongst the darkest and most psychedelic things they've ever released - and that's saying something.

The Lunatics (The Lunatics club mix) (7:24)
The Lunatics (A Clinic Full Of Cynics dub) (8:25)
Review: Radio Slave making a record in tribute to the late, great Terry Hall was not on our bingo card for 2024, but the resultant workout - based on the much-loved vocal hook from 1981 workout 'The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum' - is both undeniably dancefloor-ready and fittingly forthright (the original song was, of course, a scathing commentary on Thatcher-era Britain). The EP-opening 'Club Mix' places at the vocal refrain at the heart of the action, surrounding it with hazy vocalisations, thunderous bass, heavyweight tech-house drums and horn sounds that offer knowing nods to the classic 2 Tone sound. The accompanying 'A Clinic Full of Cynics Dub' leans into the ska sound of the original more, placing echoing horns and steel pan sounds atop a deep, dubby bassline and unfussy house beats.

Can't Get You (Maxxi mix) (8:30)
Review: Matt Edwards has been in a nostalgic mood of late, thinking back to the start of his now long-running Radio Slave project. That began with an unofficial (but widely played) rework of Kylie Minogue smash 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head', and it's that tune - and his unreleased version of it - that inspired this floor-filling, mind-mangling ear worm. The A-side 'Club Mix', a nine-minute throb-job powered forwards by Giorgio Moroder style bass, snappy house drums and rich organ stabs, boasts snippets of vocal courtesy of Sylvester-style American singer Michael Loves Michael, and sounds every bit as alluring as Edwards' infamous bootleg take. The flip-side 'Maxxi Version' features all of Michael Loves Michael's vocals and sits somewhere between sleazy underground synth-pop and sparkling, revivalist Italo-disco. Two ace takes on a stone-cold pop classic that sound fabulous when played on meaty club soundsystems.

Ultimately, said comp will contain 16 tracks of hard-hitting and diverse techno from a range of artists to have featured on Edwards' Rekids Special Projects sublabel, which focuses on 'no-nonsense' techno. For the time being, though, the comp split into a series of four EPs, evidently allowing the listener breathing room and time to consider each track, not least with the intention of being heard on high-quality vinyl. Slam and Radio Slave helm up the A-side for some neat meditative numbers, while relative newcomers Silvershower and Confidential Recipe deliver much wilder hard techno tea on the B.
