Review: The story behind this one is that Vivian Yabby You Jackson once put together a tape that had been labeled The Best Of Patrick Andy but had never been put it out. On it was three unreleased tunes, one unreleased dub, and stereo mixes of several previously mono-only singles. For whatever reason it now sees the light of day and we're glad about it - this forms a fine tribute to a top singer and a legendary producer with some timeless dub. The horns pan, the rhythm tracks are heavy, the studio trickery is impressive throughout.

Show A Little Love (7:18)
Review: Notorious Patrick Andy gem 'No Easy Game' gets a pressing on 10" vinyl here and is backed with 'Show a Little Love' on the flip side. The production throughout is super crisp from Yabby You production and with Tommy McCook leading the horns you cannot go wrong with this one. 'No Easy Game' is long for a reggae tune at almost eight minutes of lush drums and bass combos with classic reggae vox up top. Flip it over and there is a slightly more upbeat tune with tambourines, acoustic guitars and those irresistible horns.

Review: Pressure Sounds continue to champion the legacy of the mighty Vivian Jackson, otherwise known as Yabby You. On this occasion, they're looking to a cut with Patrick Andy on vocals which has never before been pressed to vinyl. Andy recorded many tunes with Jackson over the years, but this ranks up there with the best, and the dub mix on the flip is no joke either. After all, it was mixed at King Tubby's, no less. With Tommy McCook leading the horn section, the credentials rank high on this essential 7".

Review: Superb package here for dub heads: Dub Cuts: Mixed By Paolo Baldini Dubfiles on Pressure Drop is an LP made up of different Al Brown obscurities. They're given plenty of trippy studio effects and heady reworks by Paolo Baldini Dubfiles at his studio in San Foca in Italy. The tense and moody sounds are finished in places with some top vocal work from Al Brown. This is the sort of collection that works in many different environments from sunny sound systems to darker stoner sessions on a Sunday afternoon.

Natty Roots (Paolo Baldini remix - version 2) (4:15)
Review: Pressure Sounds come through with a super 10" here with Natty Roots Controller mixed three different ways by Paolo Baldini. It is a Barry Brown original and the first remix is one with models of echo and reverb, plenty of knob twisting and heavily affected hi-hats and a rolling rhythm. Version 1 of the remix is heavier and more upright, with just as much bass weight, then the second version is lit up with some sci-fi effects. All three are delicious dubs for those who like it heady.

Review: During last year's lockdown in Italy, contemporary dub producer Paolo Baldini was invited by Pressure Sounds to work on Bunny Lee's archive of recordings he made with singer Barry Brown during the mid-to-late 1970s. The results can now be heard on Praises, a set which adds a little more dub-wise spice to classic roots reggae cuts while retaining much of Lee's production and instrumentation. Brown's vocals - effortlessly soulful, hugely evocative and partially improvised - are simply superb, while Baldini's handling of Lee's riddims and musical arrangements is masterful. As a result, the assembled dubs, versions and vocal reworks sound faithful to the period in which they were recorded while adding subtle new touches and 21st century-ready low-end weight.

Review: Dub producer Herman Chin Loy who was one of the pioneers of the style in the early 70s, and this reissue of two formerly unnammed and mislabeled, all but lost LPs - now combined to make up a compilation known as Musicism Dub - perfectly captures the earliest incarnation of the sound. 'Musicism' is a good term to describe the spectacular character of Loy's dub. Dub as a genre itself has been at times described as one of the first popular music styles to use the sound of the beat as a point of intrigue in itself, rather than relying solely on melodies or lyrics. The Chin Loy sound flaunted here is as indicative of this approach, though it is also staunchly rooted in the vintage style of analog production, with the likes of 'Armagideon War' and 'Don't Fight The Man' nailing that undeniably early chillout sound: nicely-glued lows and spitty tops.

Review: The Pressure Sounds stamp always comes with a presumption of quality - and so it goes on this new drop from debutant project Dubism. It's an in-house band for Pressure featuring Paolo 'DubFiles' Baldini and Pete Holdsworth, plus on this particular tune we're treated to some heavenly flute embellishments from Diggory Kenrick. This is a mellow, rootsy stepper which sounds magic whether you plump for the regular version on the A-side or ping off into the version excursion on the flip. As you would rightly expect, the B-side features a masterful dub out of the original which will keep any head nodders locked.

Review: Bobby Ellis is behind 'Ska Baby', which was produced and directed by the Upsetter and now comes backed with a lush dub and a custom bag. It's actually one of the more subtle instrumentals to come from the famous Black Ark studio founded by Lee "Scratch" Perry and epitomises a warm day, beer in hand, dusty dry earth beneath your feet as you saunter though downtown Jamaica. Well, we assume this is how it must feel, never having been there during the 70s or 80s ourselves. Whatever, it's a perfectly organic and authentic vibe that is perfectly transportative.

Review: Vivian Jackson's work is being reissued a few times this month. Pressure Sounds opt for his "Run Come Rally" from 1992. It is a stone cold classic of the early roots ear and on the flip is a nicely twisted dub version that retains the vocal but does plenty of trippy things to it with endless amounts of echo and reverb. Recorded by Lee Perry at Black Ark Studios in 1974, this is the sort of haunting tune that is also hugely stirring and has atmosphere to spare. Comes in a hand stamped bag.

Review: Vivian Jackson's "Conquering Lion" is a bona fide roots classic often thought as of a cornerstone of the genre. It is superbly spiritual music from a higher plane that will uplift your soul whilst also awakening your brain. It features harmonies supplied by The Ralph Brothers with keys that are always there, nagging away in beautiful fashion. As well as the full vocal on the a-side, Kind Tubby steps up for a huge dub on the flip that encourages you to utterly let go and one which dub techno fans will know has been reworked by Steve O'Sullivan to Miller effect .

Strut
Review: With post punk seemingly back in fashion if Trevor Jackson's recent Metal Dance compilation is any signifier, it's quite an appropriate time for John Jah Wobble Wardle and Keith Levene to re-embark on a joint musical venture that was first executed in seminal style with PiL. Arriving in sealed cellophane sleeve from Pressure Sounds, the four track Mississippi EP shows Levene and Wardle to have lost none of their expertise, with the former's clattering guitar every bit as potent as the signature Wobble bass grooves. "Back On The Block" will undoubtedly appeal to fans of their work as PiL with it's infectious dub wise sprawl, whilst "Ying & Yang" is as potent an example of contemporary snarling post punk attitude you will hear this year.

Review: Fans of digital roots take note: "Gun Fever" is a brilliantly dark and direct offering from Frankie Jones. Mixing up the sound of 80s Jamaica and the sort of dub that was loved in the UK by dancehall crowds, it first landed on Third World in 1986 and now gets a crisp new remaster for the first time in its history. The low swinging bottom end is warm and rich, the claps chart and the rimshots are laden with effects, especially on the flipside "Version", that really sink you deep into the riddim.

Review: Pressure Sounds have dug out a previously unreleased version of this lovely roots instrumental from Tommy McCook and The Aggrovators. It was recorded at King Tubby's Legendary studio with production by Bunny 'Striker' Lee and was first found on the Playlist Original King of Dub album. Its a lute, lazy jam with sliding hi hats and nice lead melodies that are bright and airy. The flip pairs tings back a little but the tune remains crucial. This lovely slice of dub comes in a hand stamped brown sleeve.

Review: Served up in a nice Pressure Sounds house bag is this killer 10" from the one and only Lee "Scratch" Perry in cahoots with Diggory Kenrick. The rhythm is Junior Byles' "Long Way" and here it gets four reworks. Each of them hazy, deep, dubby and cavernous to sink right into. Perry's musings are subtle and drift in and out of ear shot, as does a curious flute and some rather festive tambourines. Things grow more tripped out across the four tracks, with the last cut the most psyched-out of the lot.

Review: Despite the similarity of the title of this one to an earlier album, King Tubby's Prophecies Of Dub was actually a new and standalone work. Though it bares Tubby's name, he was only an executive producer of sorts, as Pat Kelly was the one mostly at the controls, and what's more, many of the backing tracks here belonged to Bunny 'Striker' Lee. Those technicalities aside, it still unfolds like a dub classic, with hissing hi hats and rippling top lines all underpinned by impossibly buoyant bass. Along the way, there are up tempo rumblers next to sink into your sofa stoner sessions that all make it a perfectly warm and escapist trip.

Remarkably, it has never been reissued before, making this first vinyl edition in 23 years a must-have for those addicted to weighty bass, heavy riddims and echoing effects. There's much to enjoy from start to finish, including the delay-laden horns and gentle grooves of "Fair Lady", the surprisingly cheery skank of "Tear Gas In Waterhouse", the seductive solos of "Tradition Skank" and the low-slung, bass-heavy throb of "Serious Rebellion", a stripped back dub straight from the top drawer.

Review: The Skatalites' incendiary ska bombshell, Ska-Boo-Da-Da, first surfaced after the Chinese-Jamaican record producer Philip Stanford 'Justin' Yap first clocked onto the genre's earliest burblings. After hearing word of his rival Clement Dodd's receipt of hundreds of ska demo in mid-1964, Yap saw dollar signs at such a critical juncture, and unhesitatingly pulled his pre-rigged strings to gather of the cream of his session talents (not yet quite collectively crowned the Skatalites) for a mammoth all-night session in 1964 at Dodd's Studio One on Brentford Road. Successfully occupying the studio of his competitor, the culture cow that was to become the Skatalites thus further came into being. The November session lasted 18 hours, and was described as a monster - so riveting, in fact, that it compelled the studio to double the usual going rate for the instrumentalists. Though many of its demo takes still languish in the vaults, the Skatalites' second-ever LP amounts to a well-chosen curation of cover versions (Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington originals included) first laid down on that fateful, deal-sealing day.

Well worth a pickup for new listeners and those already familiar with Mr. Lee's transformative rub a dub work.

Three years ago, Pressure Sounds unveiled two previously unheard versions from the Jamaican singer, toaster and producer's vaults, both of which had been featured on one of his own exclusive dubplates. This 45 offers-up those same mixes, this time on a less limited vinyl pressing. The A-side 'Dubplate Mix' is a formidably fuzzy affair and features Yabby You, singing attractively over a chunky riddim, fluid piano solos and tight, clipped guitar riffs. On the flipside 'Version', Yabby You turns it into a stripped back, heavy dub monster replete with snaking saxophone solos and echoing hand percussion.

Review: Pressure Sounds' latest release takes us back to 1976 and "Wall Of Jerusalem", a soulful reggae album by The Prophets that included production from both Yabby You (the band's lynchpin and lead vocalist) and dub mixer King Tubby. The album is something of a roots classic, with Yabby You's seductive, soul-fired vocal numbers being joined by delay-laden heavy dub revisions by King Tubby. You'll find the original set on LP 1, with the second being dedicated to alternate versions, previously unreleased tracks recorded in the same period, and alternate dubs that have lain dormant in Yabby You's archives for the best part of 40 years.

Dub Conqueror (part 3 - Paolo Baldini dubfiles remix) (4:31)
Review: Martin Harrison worked with legends like This Heat and On u Sound as well as many other vocal dub practitioners. Here he offers up a pair of longer stepping mixes of Yabby You and They Prophets' 'Dub Conqueror.' it is tune that may be familiar to dub techno fans as having been reworked by Steve O'Sullivan into a brilliantly heady groove. On the flip, the same tune gets treated by Paolo Baldini with a 'Dubfiles' remix and he slows things down, before freaking you out with plenty of mad mixing tricks and effects.

Review: Pressure Sounds serve up a superb collection of Yabby dubs that have mostly been taken from past singles, but not in all cases. The vast collection comes with sleeve notes from Diggory Kenrick that give great context and take us back to the 1970s dub heyday in Jamaica. That is when Vivian 'Yabby You' Jackson was a fiercely independent singer and producer making waves off the back of his first early tunes. He famously carried all his records to the pressing plant on the back of his much loved motorbike. An accident caused him to give it up but the music survived and is this collection proves, it is crucial stuff.

Jah Over I (3:39)
United Africa Dub (3:41)
Review: An outpouring of new dub bits have hit our shelves, and of course, legendary 7"s machine Pressure Sounds have something to add to the fore. Yabby You re-presses to a lesser-known track; 'Jah Over I' hears him sing of total devotion to god as flute and deep, thrombosis-inducing bass carves out wells of feeling in our stomachs. 'United Africa Dub' teases the sound of a people united in devotion; manifesting as flute, 16th-note fills, and soul-soothing trombones. Spring echoes boing into unifying space, despite the global vacuum of misunderstanding...

Review: Pressure Sounds latest essential reissue breathes new life into Yabby You and the Prophets' brilliant 1975 album Conquering Lion, an early roots reggae gem that has long been a favourite of knowledgeable reggae heads. The first record naturally showcases the original EP, offering us a chance to savour such classics as 'Run Come Rally', the intoxicating and pitched-down brilliance of 'Conquering Lion' and the shoulder-swinging skank of 'Jah Love'. The second record, meanwhile, gathers together rare dubs, versions and alternate takes not featured on the original LP. It's almost worth buying the reissue for this alone; 'Tubby's Vengeance', 'Anti Christ Rock' and 'Warning (Dub)', in particular, are spectacularly good.

Yabby You & The Prophets - "King Pharaohs Plague" (5:15)
Tommy McCook - "Plague Of Horn" (3:23)
King Tubby - "King Pharaoh Dub" (3:22)
Review: Pressure Sounds brings together the best of the world's reggae from across the ages on this new 10". It kicks off with the superb Yabby You, famous motorcycle enthusiasts who has a vast collection of dubs out now on this same label. His tune 'King Pharaohs Plague' with The Prophets is a real soul-enriching anthem with spaced out studio trickery and a fleshy dub. Tommy McCook's 'Plague Of Horn' is a deep dark wobbler and then the third and final version comes for the one and only King Tubby. His 'King Pharaoh Dub' has a deeply buried bassline lost in amongst all the endless reverb that melts the mind.
