Tell Me How Long Has 'Trane Been Gone (For James Baldwin) (9:45)
Frippe's Dream (13:47)
Review: Omlott are making this 2018 studio album from American Joe McPhee and Turkish artist Konstrukt available for the first time since it landed digitally. The four track offering starts off with a short-spoken word poem that sets a thoughtful tone before twisted and experimental electronic styles take over on the weirdly entitled "In The Lair Of The Dried Rat Dog." It's a cacophony of drum tumbles, noisy trumpets and percussive terror that keeps you utterly on edge. "Tell Me, How Long Has Trane Been Gone" carries on in that fashion with a nod to the late great John Coltrane in the music and the title, and the epic 13 minute closer "Frippes Dream" brings you back down with a slightly more spacious and mournful piece of freeform jazz.
