Review: Some two years on from his last Unreleased Collection, veteran producer Scott Grooves returns with volume three. As usual, the experienced Detroiter has dug deep, pulling out cuts that have lay dormant on DATs, floppy discs, hard drives and reel-to-reel tapes for years. He begins with the twinkling, intergalactic ambience of "Intro", before showcasing the deep and spiritual house of "Ahchording To What" [sic], the stripped-back wooziness of "Isolated Matter", and the dense, tribal-influenced drum track "DBTLS 1". As the CD progresses, he moves further towards Motor City techno territory, via the New Jersey influenced basement bump of "Red Crates (Beats)", and electro-influenced "Deneb".

Review: New Scott Grooves in the house! Last year saw the storied purveyor of richly melodic Detroit house and techno refocus attention on his Natural Midi label, issuing the excellent archival collection of "should've, would've, could've" productions on limited cassette and CDr. It's now great to be able to grip some Scott Grooves Natural Midi produce on the 12" format and well read scholars of the producer's work will no doubt recognise the lead track on Another 500, which is an update mix of the much in demand 2007 joint "Only 500". Complementing this are two B Side gems in the shape of the wall rattling, raw techno jammer "Decimal" and the wonderfully haywire soul laden grooves of "Deeply Uncomfortable".

Review: Natural Midi has been one of the primary homes to Scott Grooves' tunes, easily the most underrated producer from the Detroit area, and he's back on his own label with four new beauties. Grooves has been churning out exquisite deep house bangers since the 90's, a very specific brand of dance music that incorporates everything from jazz, to disco and funk; his basslines are always warm and soothing, while his percussion is dusty and the synth lines musical. In an age where 'outsider' house rules, his grounded approach is always a breath of fresh air to us. The opener "Finished" is a funky house swinger choc-a-bloc with gorgeous claps and stuttering toms, and "Inspiration Sound" scratches the 4/4 off for a bit of broken trip-hop - a certified winner. On side B, "The Sauce" is moody, spaced-out and offers subtle keys, while "Nitty Gritty" slams out a dicing little percussion with a lo-fi feel. Absolutely terrific.

Review: Detroit stalwart Scott Grooves has been churning out 12" singles since the early '90s, yet the quality barely seems to drop. This second - and, according to the producer's own sales notes, "likely last" - installment in the Parts Manager series contains five more top notch workouts. As ever, there's plenty of variety across the EP. Contrast, for example, the flowing, ear-catching musicality of classic deep house opener "Gravitas", the body popping drum machine hits and rubbery P-funk bass of "Deneb", and the deep nu-jazz shuffle of "Monowaltz". The pleasing eclecticism continues elsewhere, via the fluid electric piano workout "Bittersweet Live", and the Chez Damier style basement smoothness of hypnotic closer "?".

Review: Detroit ace Scott Grooves has always been rather in the shadows of his more well known peers but he shouldn't be. As anyone who has spoken to him knows, he is a personable and deeply humble man who turns out a steady stream of excellent music. Most of it came on his own natural MIDI label which is where this new EP arrives. It is a more techno leaning and stripped back affair than you might expect as Grooves finds soul and hypnosis in his machines across four typically well produced and original tracks. Another classic from the great man.

As way of a celebration, he's dug through his old DATs, floppy discs, hard drives and reel-to-reels to unearth an impressive collection of previously unheard and unreleased fare. Mixed together to form a deep, fluid, stargazing journey through two decades of house and Detroit techno, Unreleased Anthology joins the dots between cascading electronics ("Tape"), rush-inducing futurism ("Inspiration Sound"), bubbling acid (the delicious "909.25"), and ultra-deep shufflers (a previously 'lost dub' of Alton Miller hook-up "Gonna Be Alright").

Review: Veteran US house producer Scott Grooves continues his extended trawl through his seemingly endless archive, delivering another bumper selection of unreleased gems. As with the first volume - released last year on cassette and CD - Unreleased Anthology Part 2 - is limited to just 100 copies, meaning you'll have to act fast if you want to get in on the act. That would be a wise move, given the sheer quality of the material on offer. From the tactile melodies and fluid arpeggios of "Calmness", and the beautiful marimba melodies of "Me Soulista", to the dusty soulful house of "Over U" and tech-tinged hustle of "Under The Bridge", Unreleased Anthology Part 2 bristles with evocative brilliance from start to finish.
