Review: "Dream, dream on... your dream will come alive," goes the mantra of 'Dreams', the melancholic 4-chord lead single by eurodance supergroup 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor. We should hope so too. Or, at least, we should hope your dream to own this gold-coloured, 180g audiophile gatefold repress of their 'Very Best Of' album should come true. Forming in 1990 when brothers Martin and Bobby Boer started making bedroom pop in their parent's flat on the 4th floor of their apartment block, this band-cum-techno act have never shied from the lilting emotions of disparate genres, from indie folk to happy hardcore. Assisted by rapper Da Smooth Baron MC and singer Peggy "The Duchess", this album compiles almost every 'hit' from this ambitious studio project's lengthy career, from the beachside naff-trance of 'Never Alone' to the future-dystopian vocoder tones of 'Living In Cyberspace'. Cheese fanatics will love this one.

Review: Well over one billion streams, sold out concerts across the globe, and five full-length albums later, 2Cellos deliver what may be their most populist effort to date. Certainly no bad thing, the classical world is packed with fine examples of instrumental masters reworking number one smash hits, from Kronos Quartet to The Heritage Orchestra, and in all honestly Dedicated can hold its own. Opting to recreate rather than rethink, tracks from platinum-selling acts like Bon Jovi, Guns n' Roses, Beyonce, and Simone & Garfunkel all feature, at least some of which pack more emotional resonance and power than their originals. Having said that, we've always been suckers for the fundamentally mournful, or at least reflective qualities of the cello. And don't even get us started on the double bass.

Review: The 4th Street Orchestra is one of several aliases used by Matumbi, which was actually one of Britain's first and most original reggae bands back in 1971 when they were founded initially. For the best showcase of their sound look no further than this landmark roots record Ah Who Seh? Go Deh! which came in 1976 and has been hard to find since. This is a first ever official reissue of it and finds Dennis 'Blackbeard' Bovell tapping into his vast knowledge of sound system culture and laying down heavy rhythms with plenty of Jah-worshipping, Zion-referencing lyrics and soulful yearnings. It's complex and cultured and packs a true bass heavy punch.

Review: For those that don't know, Ex:El was the third LP by British electronic pioneers 808 State released in 1991. The album features guest vocalists such as New Order's Bernard Sumner on "Spanish Heart' and Bjork on "Qmart" and "Ooops" which would result in the Icelandic singer having a continued working relationship with Graham Massey over the years. Their teaming up with figures of the alternative music scene of the time started a trend that many other electronic music groups would become to follow. Perceived by many to be one of their finest albums, this one will be a welcome edition to any 808 State fans collection on vinyl.

Review: To the delight of the 80s synth-pop faithful holding on to the decade prior, Martin Fry revived ABC in 1997 after a five-year hiatus. It's noticeable that Fry wasn't interested in repeating old tricks though, as he took the band in a new direction alongside Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory without losing that keen sense of songwriting magic that made ABC so popular the first time around. Loaded with emotionally charged reflections on life, the universe and everything, this is a welcome pressing on blue and white marble vinyl which is limited to 1000 copies.

Alcazarized is the second studio album by Swedish nu-disco group Alcazar, originally released in 2003. Renowned for its reworkings of greats by disco classicists such as Diana Ross and ABBA (the latter having their unheard track 'Funky Feet', (written for the Arrival album in 1976 but rejected for being too similar to 'Dancing Queen') exclusively remixed by Alcazar here), this reissue from MOV hears the early-noughties glitz from the Swedish four-piece glimmer once more.

Review: For those who remember, focus-grouped supergroup Alcazar made a barrage of infectious europop and trance tracks through the late '90s through to the early noughties, becoming one of Sweden's most internationally successful pop groups. 'Casino' compiled their greatest hits on CD format at the time - including 'Transmetropolis', a Haddaway-sampling slice of robotic fun, and their first single 'Shine On', an equally kitsch new age trip hop ballad showing off the trio's high-end vision of sonic urbanity. Now released on limited, 1000-strong magenta vinyl for the first time, this edition includes secret inscriptions on the run-out groove.

Review: After the meandering 80s years of his career, Alice Cooper streamlined his sound and thrust back into the premier league of heavy metal legends with Trash. Originally released in 1989 and sounding as killer as it did upon release, it's the album which brought the world one of Cooper's biggest hits, 'Poison'. Beyond the headlines, there's scores more slammers on this record from 'House Of Fire' to 'Bed Of Nails', not to mention to Southern rock get-down of the title track. Now Music On Vinyl have given it a freshen up and repressed it on blue and red vinyl.

Produced by longtime Beatles producer George Martin, it was a comparative flop to some of their earlier albums, although it did at least go some of the way to cement itself in the collective rock fanatic psyche. Now this reissue by Music On Vinyl presents the original album exactly as it was, and it's the first ever vinyl repress.

An artist so effortlessly apt to reinvent herself such as Laurie Anderson should be more than any other worthy of the reissue treatment. Music On Vinyl here present the legendary New York musician and performance artist's 1989 avant-garde album 'Bright Red', which followed a brief stint in the chart-worthy realm of pop. Co-produced with Brian Eno and informed by her then relationship with Lou Reed, Anderson's musings on love, landscape and death are more than submerged in Eno's proto-ambient pop and reverb techniques. It's also yet another stalwart album in vocal synthesis, with cuts such as 'Puppet Motel' showing off Anderson's longstanding penchant for gender-bending throat mods.

Review: Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe might sound like the elaborate name of a facetious solo artist, but it's actually a later alias of progressive rock supergroup Yes, after they resolved to stop going by the name Yes. Yes, indeed, this is Yes in reunited form, having packed in the former name with a resounding No. Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe return for this later-career, nine-track smorgasbord, which shows off the group's collaborative-compositional complexity, virtuosic musicianship and belty vocals. Everything from heroic theme music to instrumental ecstatic dances feature here, with the opener potentially especially appealing to DJs.

Review: One of the key releases of the first wave of the New Wave of British heavy metal, the self-titled Angel Witch debut full-length, has long been heralded, praised, analysed and remembered as a vital contribution to the world of metallic machinations since its initial 1980 release. Inspiring waves of black metal, thrash, death and almost any other form of sonic extremity one can lay their ears upon, the work was misunderstood by many not prepared for the monumental surge in popularity the metal scene would ride over the ensuing decades. That being said, the project had those who would fight its corner, with its credence eventually leading to the same regard as say, Iron Maiden's self-titled affair, yet channelling far darker avenues of influence. Chalk most of the genre's expansion throughout the 80s, and you'll always circle back to this monumental classic.

Review: The third full-length from Canada's greatest thrash metal act, Annihilator, was met with initial puzzlement upon its release in 1993. 'Set The World On Fire' saw the band straw away from the more metallic route of albums such as 'Alice In Hell', in favour of a more radio-friendly approach. Time working its nostalgic magic has led to cuts like, 'Knight Jumps Queen', and, 'Brain Dance', becoming live staples since, while many have grown to appreciate the expansive and accessible scope the project exuded. The final full-length to feature bassist Wayne Darley, as well as their final work with renowned metal label Roadrunner, this reissue comes at a retrospective time where artists can cherish their once misunderstood works, and offer them up to new legions of eager, less judgemental fans.

Falling somewhere between the glammy, inescapable essence of late eighties hair metal, and a deeper, darker atmosphere than even their more blatant peers in Slayer or Metallica could muster, 'Alice In Hell', still stands today as an integral, essential contribution to the metal world. Any self-respecting metalhead should either be well versed with this record, or pre-ordering a copy right this second.

Review: Dividing critics on its initial release - review scores veering from 2/5 to 4.5/5 - Annihilator were always going to be one of those bands you either loved or forgot about pretty quickly. In many ways, this 1990 sophomore album is the epitome of where stadium heavy metal had been for the last few years, the sort of tracks that seem to launch from the starting blocks and scarcely look up from the riffs. In other ways, there's a lot here pointing towards the genre's immediate future, too.

Reading into things and then reading them again aside, what's really important is the quality of execution, and in this context the Ontario, Canada, band are on top form. Running at breakneck speed, every cymbal crash, each staccato kick drum pattern is not only in the perfect place for what they want to achieve, it's delivered with the gusto of an outfit who simply don't know how to let up.

The music of Archive, which was formed by Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths with singer Roya Arab and young rapper Rosko John, has aged well. The soaring strings, slowly lurching beats and meditative grooves all sit up there with any of their more famous peers, from Tricky to Massive Attack. This anniversary edition includes a 4-page booklet with song lyrics and credits, plus a hidden track.

Review: C.S. Lewis had some imagination, with The Chronicles of Narnia still up there with the very best and most evocative and immersive fantasy sagas ever written. Call us bias because of that time we were taken to the theatre to watch a stage version in the fare more naive and less cynical late-1980s but Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which, among other things, sets its scene on a big royal galleon which must take siblings Edmund and Lucy, and their cousin, Eustace, to meet Prince Caspian, bypassing - or at least overcoming - many dangers along the way.

What that means in terms of soundtrack is probably open to speculation if you've not seen the 2010 movie adaptation, which this score accompanied. When it comes down to it, think twinkling chimes and lush, rich aural tapestries weaved with strings and brass, lunging into peril before lighting the atmosphere significantly as danger gives way to awe and inspiration.

Review: 1982's A New Chapter of Dub - a dubbed out version of their New Chapter album from the previous year - from Aswad was a critical and commercial success and has since become known as one of the greatest dub albums of all time. It has an earth shattering weight to it that sounds impossibly good on a huge sound system even to this day. The reverberating brass and oodles of dub delay, echo and drop outs also helped this album have its own distinctive, delicious sound and make this special reissue wholly deserved. Big tunes like 'Dubfire, and 'Ghetto in the Sky' are real standouts amongst many.

Review: British rock band Atomic Rooster - made up from members of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown aka organ player Vincent Crane and sticks man Carl Palmer - had success in the 70s and 80s. They went through some mad stylistic changes in that time but remain best known for their hit singles 'Tomorrow Night' which hit number 11 in the UK charts and number four gem 'Devil's Answer', which both came in 1971. Neither of them feature on their self-titled album and debut from 1970 which itself made the Top 50 of the UK album charts, but it still packs a real punch with a prog rock feel.

Review: It is amazing to think back just 20 odd years or so and realise how innocent so much pop music was. A fine case in point is B Witched, the all-female pop band with the most perfect pop hooks, catchy melodies and innocent aesthetes you can imagine. Their self-titled debut album must now be considered a classic as Music On Vinyl issue it on heavyweight orange wax - the first time it has ever been on vinyl. It finds twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, plus Lindsay Armaou and Sinead O'Carroll in top form on big hits like 'C'est La Vie' which peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Review: Since its release in 1997, David Lynch's neo-noir-horror, Lost Highway, has become something of a cult classic. The accompanying soundtrack album, here reissued on weighty double vinyl, is similarly revered in some circles. Put together by Nine Inch Nails' frontman Trent Reznor, composer Angelo Badalamenti, and punk-turned-producer Barry Adamson, it's a mish-mash of darkly intense songs (Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed and Rammstein all contribute), and the kind of creepy, other-worldly soundscapes that have always been a feature of Lynch's work. It's arguably the latter tracks, composed by Badalementi and Adamson, which remain creepily potent all these years on.

Review: Essential reissue alert: Arguably one of his most influential albums of his illustrious career, Wally's third album Echoes has matured incredibly well, joining the dots between electronica, island music, reggae, pop and ambient better than most self-styled Balearic DJs. Sampled by the likes Massive Attack ("Mambo") and Pete Herbert ("Chief Inspector"), we're moved through the moods in such a simplistic but warm, dynamic way as Wally switches from shedding a tear on the Scarface-era Moroder style "Canyons" to shedding a few pounds on the runaway boogie cut "Endless Race". Still sounding current 32 years deep, there's a reason the likes of Grace Jones, Level 42, Herbie Hancock and Black Uhuru worked with him.

It features his take on some jazz standards by the likes of Cole Porter ('All of You'), Vernon Duke and Ira Gershwin ('I Cannot Get Started') and Irving Berlin ('How Deep Is The Ocean). As the label marks its 45th anniversary they have pressed it up again via Music on Vinyl. Review: Smooth jazz's very own Prince of Cool Chet Baker outdid himself with the release of this 1986 pearl, As Time Goes By. A collection of 10 love songs rendered in his inimitable style, Baker laid it down soft and tender with both his vocals and trumpet playing on this mellow delight, which takes in timeless classics written by Frank Sinatra ('I'm A Fool To Want You'), Cole Porter ('You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To') and Thelonious Monk ('Round Midnight'). In an audiophile edition pressed nice and loud across two discs, this is a definitive edition of an album you could just melt into.

Review: Different Light was the LP that followed The Bangles' world-renowned hit 'Walk Like An Egyptian', thanks to its commercial success and the band's subsequent recognition by the world-famous recording artist Prince. Their second LP, it followed All Over The Place and opted for a slinky, funky sound, with our choice favourites being the follow-up hits 'Standing In The Hallway' and the rick-rollicking 'Angels Don't Fall In Love'; themes of unrequited love abound on this rather lovesick album.

His catalogue of releases and mixes is vast, but the simply titled Live Mix from 1997 is a seminal document of the Brooklyn bad boy's approach, packed full of classics and whipping into 'Energy Flash' on track two before launching into all kinds of high-pressure acid and techno. The mix has only ever been on CD before, but now Music On Vinyl are pressing it up on wax as a lasting document of a classic set from the golden age of techno mixes.

Review: Denis Villeneuve's psychological thriller about a man who sees his doppelganger in a movie, and begins an obsessive search for the look-alike, is a strange, tense, highly stylised dive into a world that's informed by some of the masters of surrealist tension. At times invoking landmark mind-benders such as David Lynch's Lost Highway, albeit with a far less experimental narrative structure, to say its score works hard to set the tone is putting it mildly.
Created by Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, Enemy's soundtrack is a joy, but also thoroughly trippy. It's unnerving, and yet inviting, laidback while also mournful, and always has this air of the unknown and uncertain about it. Boasting white noise, strings, drones, woodwind, elements of classical, jazz and library sounds are all here, at times invoking space age imagery, in other moments taking use back to the great mysteries of 20th Century cinema.

Review: Scottish rock band Big Country's 1986 album The Seer has been reissued as an expanded double-LP set! This album in particular delivers a title track that features vocals from Kate Bush, plus the band's biggest UK hit "Look Away". This expanded edition also brings with it four bonus tracks; namely, and most intriguing, a disco mix of "One Great Thing" - a slight curveball for the band considering this album was hailed as their most Celtic influenced work - and two lesser known tracks "Song Of The South" and "Giant". For a trip back to the days of stadium rock, Ireland's Big Country were a band that were and remain an outside curio of '80s rock, with The Seer lasting as a masterwork in their discography that also includes Steeltown, Wonderland and No Place Like Home.

The singer songwriter was of course part of he influential 90s collective The Soulquarians alongside members D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Common and Questlove and some of those feature here as well as the likes of Robert Glasper. Production was taken care of by none other than Dr Dre alongside Raphael Saadiq and J Dilla. Lead single 'Soul Sista' toped the US charts and remarkably this is the first time the album has ever been available on vinyl.

It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah contains ten catchy songs, most prominently the album's preceding hit single 'In The Name Of The Father', with influences from indie-pop, alternative, funk, disco, with rough guitar, rapping all glued together and produced by American Danny Saber. On release in 1993, the debut album immediately charted at the very top of the UK Albums chart and was certified Platinum.

Known for their posi vibes, which the band dubbed a 'positive tip', DJ Chief Xcel and rapper Gift Of Gab rarely delved into hip-hop's stereotyped violent lyrics. Now, the LP receives its much due reissue; for those who remember, a lesser-known Gil Scott-Heron collab, 'First In Flight', even appears on the A-side.

Review: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees was the band's first compilation and helped them shoot to stardom. With the rise of successful greatest hits albums, the label at the time pressured the young band to bring out a collection of previously released music, with then 12 songs featured here the result of collecting three songs per prior album that the band felt were their strongest. This album features some of the most beloved live songs by the band like 'Buck's Boogie'. For those that are new to the band, this is a great introduction to the history of BOC prior to their landmark hit 'Don't Fear The Reaper' smash the following year and this reissue comes on silver & black marbled vinyl.

Review: Veteran US hard rockers Blue Oyster Cult often existed just outside the mainstream success of their peers, bar the odd crossover hit. The line-up changed over the years but they were arguably at their peak in the early 70s, as you can hear on this their second album. 50 years on, it's still a kick-ass collection of tunes that keep the tempo up, the riffs rolling and plenty of space for some wailing solos. There was space for freakier tunes such as the organ-soaked 'Screaming Diz-Busters' and lean and mean blues workouts like 'Baby Ice Dog', but on Tyranny & Mutation they were always reliably rocking out.

Review: Finnish hip-hop duo Bombfunk MCs made a massive splash in 1999 when they dropped their debut album In Stereo. It sold well due to the success of its lead singles like 'Uprocking Beats' and 'Freestyler', which took after a mixture of big beat and b-boy raps for an effective semester of classes in the school of hip bangerology. This reissue by MOV reminds us, though, that there are plenty of greats left to be heard on the album, too, from 'Sky's The Limit' to '1,2,3,4'. A point of pride for the Finnish music scene, it's certainly not one to be missed for those seeking a complete collection of breaks records.

Review: When it comes to classical and orchestral worlds things often look painfully whitewashed and very male dominated, at least in so far as conduction goes. Talk about understatements. Enter Jongnic Bontemps, one name on a growing list of incredible talent changing that stereotype up for the better. Schooled in church and jam music, formally educated in classical, to date he has been responsible for no less than 50 significant projects spanning video games, cinema, TV series, shorts and documentary films. His contribution to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is emblematic of his dexterity, a collection that shifts between bombastic and high tech, machines supporting brass and string crescendos, then quiet, patient, and at times tense work, marking him out as a true musical storyteller extraordinaire.

Review: Dial up the doctor for a dose of P funk heat, and you won't need a spoonful of sugar to help this particular medicine go down. Bootsy Collins is one of the true fundamentals of the Parliament-Funkadelic phenomenon, and he delivered some equally essential entries into the canon as any of the George Clinton classics. This Boot Is Made For Fonk'n' beamed down to earth from the mothership in 1979, when the collective's talents were at their peak, as proven by the presence of Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Garry Shider and Bernie Worrell on the credits and Clinton on the mixing desk. From the slippery psychedelia of 'Under The Influence Of A Groove' to the low sung sleaze of 'Jam Fan (Hot)', this is P funk at its best.

Review: Much like the Sex Pistols, Bow Wow Wow were as much a product of Malcolm McLaren's commercial nous and love of provocation as they were a band, but with the passage of time you can hear their music in a different light. Made up of former Adam & The Ants members and teenage singer Annabella Lwin, they whipped up a powerful twist on the new wave template in which Burundi-style drumming, twanging Americana and post-punk scratchiness collided with pop hooks. If you can't get enough of that era of music, you will surely love discovering or re-discovering this breakthrough album from one of popular music's true curios.

Peter & The Wolf, Op 67 (27:11)
Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra, Op 34 (17:12)
Review: This recording of the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 story and orchestral score Peter and the Wolf was recorded in 1977 and was originally released in 1978. The role of the narrator on the recording was initially offered to both Peter Ustinov and Alec Guinness who both turned it down, before David Bowie agreed to take on the role, supposedly as a Christmas present to his son. On the B-side is another equally as charming piece of recent classical history, Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra as narrated by Hugh Downs.

David Bowie/The Rebels - "Revolutionary Song" (4:42)
Marlene Dietrich - "Just A Gigolo" (3:34)
Review: Here's something to get Bowie fans hot under the collar: a first worldwide pressing of the Thin White Duke's "Revolutionary Song", his only contribution to the soundtrack of 1978 West German flick "Just A Gigolo", in which he also starred alongside silver screen legend Marlene Dietrich. The song was recorded with a local band of musicians hastily dubbed "The Rebels" and sees Bowie in classic crooner mode, adding his distinctive vocals to a jangly, largely acoustic number that's effectively a folksy take on waltz. Over on side B there's a chance to enjoy one of Marlene Dietrich's last ever recordings: an atmospheric cover of 1930s cabaret standard "Just A Gigolo" which ended up being the movie's title track.

Review: Tin Machine II was first released by Victory Music in 1991. It was the second and last studio long player from Tin Machine and was followed by a tour. Once it was done, the band's legendary frontman David Bowie went back to his solo career and never looked back. Over the years, the album has take on cult status with Uncut magazine once calling it "extraordinary" and placing it in their list of 50 Great Lost Albums. It is a must-have record with plenty of pure-Bowie moments such as 'baby Universal' and singles like 'You Belong In Rock N Roll,' which did well in the charts at the time.

Review: Tin Machine II is the second and final studio album by Tin Machine. It was rebased in 1991 by Victory Music and marked the last time Bowie fronted and toured with the band. After this he focused on his solo career but the album quietly, in the background, continued to pick up fans, praise and an increasing reputation. It's often cited as one of the best lost albums of the last millennium and is packed with strong tracks that power along on big, angular guitars with Bowie's vocals soaring up top. This is the first time the record has been on vinyl since its initial rase and comes on limited edition coloured wax.

Review: The 1978 collaborative project between American jazz pianist Joanne Brackeen and Japanese jazz fusion guitarist Ryo Kawasaki was a duet studio album that showed Brackeen in a new light, brought out by who can only be described as the master of jazz fusion. The keys feel light, whimsical and less precise than Brackeen's previous outings, 'Trinkets & Things' being more free-flowing and resulting in an exciting sound well deserved of a limited audiophile re-release for its upcoming 45th birthday, on heavyweight and numbered vinyl. This will be remembered as one of the best jazz pressings of the year.

Review: The self titled album by the late Laura Branigan was one of the biggest debuts by any female singer in the decade. Fuelled by the insanely popular hit single 'Gloria', which reached number two on the Billboard top 100, catapulted Laura to international stardom. The song would go on to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female in 1983 and would be the signature song for her career. Branigan comes in limited numbered copies and pressed 180 gram red vinyl.
