Review: It's been 12 years since Australian four-piece Cut Copy gatecrashed the party with their acclaimed debut album, Bright Like Neon Love. Here, they deliver their fourth full-length studio set, a typically wide-eyed collection of songs that's arguably amongst their strongest work to date. Their appeal has always been based on their magpie-like addiction to picking the best sounds and styles and giving them a unique twist. This time round, they meld baggy indie-dance grooves with touchy-feely synth pop, piano house, chugging analogue electronics, vintage ambient house (see the decidedly atmospheric "Into The Desert"), grandiose nu-disco and, somewhat pleasingly, wall of sound Balearic pop ("In Memory Capsule"). As usual, it's all tons of fun, with little in the way of ponderous filler.

Review: Having delivered a debut album in 2010's Innerspeaker that remains rewarding to this day, the challenge for Australian trio Tame Impala would be how to improve on a near perfect sound without merely treading the same water. Lonerism achieves this with the sort of aplomb missing from many a difficult second album through subtle sonic nuances. The vintage delay laden, psychedelic approach remains very much in tact, but the band has now added more emphasis on synthesised textures to the melting pot. As ever front man Kevin Parker's woozy vocal drives matters forward throughout and if you were one of the many people that embraced their debut album, Lonerism will instantly appeal. Those unfamiliar with the band will also find much joy throughout.

Review: Van She seem to be happy chappies. The Aussie combo have always delivered the sort of shimmering power-pop that bears a mile-wide grin, but they seem even cheerier than usual on Idea Of Happiness, their sophomore set. For those who like their music to be vivid and kaleidoscopic, this is undoubtedly a good thing. While they've retained the bold hooks and catchy vocals that's characterized their work to date, there's an intricacy to the music - and particularly the melodies - previously missing. The result is a set full of dayglo pop songs that's as joyous and embracing as a naked jog around Botany Bay.

Review: Here's a rare treat to banish those winter blues - a sampler CD of 2013 highlights from Aussie indie-dance and synth-disco fusionists Modular, which can be yours for nothing with any purchase from Juno. There are some big dancefloor moments present - chart-topper Duke Domont remixing Canyons, a gargantuan garage rub of Movement's "Feel Real" by Shadow Child - alongside a great selection of quirky indie dance-pop moments. Amongst these, you'll find Pond's delightfully Balearic "O Dharma", an eccentric, acid-flecked moment from Cut Copy, and the wide-eyed joy of Shine 2009's baggy "Eurozone". All this and more for precisely nothing: what more can you ask for?

Review: Cast your mind back to the 'great electro house' era and you'll recall Modular stood shoulder to neon clad shoulder with the likes of Kitsune's Maison series when it came to the art of the compilation. Mixes such as Light Sounds Dark by Bang Gang or the Leave Them All Behind series of compilations deftly captured that era and remain memorable sonic postmarks for those that lived through it. The current manifestation of Modular is notably different with the label placing more emphasis on bands such as Tame Impala, Canyons and Cut Copy and this is reflected on Modular Presents Modyssey, a primer for the label's manoeuvres over the past 12 months. Taking in singles, rarities and remixes, highlights amongst the 15 tracks include the Todd Rundgren remix of Tame Impala and Weatherall's epic slant on "Sun God" by Cut Copy.
