Review: Acting like the latter excesses of post Justice electro house never happened; former Bang Gang acolytes Bag Raiders used their recent eponymous debut album for Modular to present a Vitamin D infused take on synth heavy electro pop dosed up on disco bliss. "Sunlight" is the second single to be culled from that set with the joyful vocal turn from Dan Black matched by the euphoric thrust of the Bag Raiders musical backing. The accompanying remix from house music heavyweight Armand Van Helden is surprisingly faithful to the source, adding some bump to the beat and embellishing that distinct burning lead melody with a few degrees more heat. This release should really be praised however for enticing the criminally unprolific Tiedye into the studio for a remix which realigns the track to a whole new approach - filled with all manner of new instrumentation which only serves as further notice of the duo's obvious talent.

Review: Modular have been supporting Cut Copy ever since their start way back in 2001, but the group seems to have gotten better with each new release - never afraid of showcasing their love for breaky electro and bleepy house music. London, disco legend and socialite Andrew Weatherall takes care of remixing the gorgeous "Sun God", and he does so with that classic Weatherall style and panache. Those synth chords are so bouncy, they'll make you scream with delight! Plus, you even get the Arp version - longer chords and more space-funk from you boy Andy.

Review: Melbourne outfit Cut Copy have long straddled the worlds of indie and dance (and the doomed middle ground where the twain meets) with aplomb. This has extended to their remix commissions - 2011 alone has seen the likes of Gavin Russom, Azari & III and, gulp, Carl Craig tweaking Cut Copy material (fair dues must go to their record label Modular for their part in this curation too). Here they enlist the services of some UK and Australian talent to remix "Blink And You'll Miss A Revolution". First up is a Chicken Lips malfunction, with some early cowbell carnage giving way into a pulsating bassline and twinkling keys. This shares the A-Side with the equally ace Tornado Wallace version, which settles into a murky, rolling groove - file under "late night throbber". On the flip you'll find the original version of the track nestled alongside a clubby, acid-tinged remake from Das Moth and Kenji Takimi.

Review: It's been a long time since Aussie duo The Presets first gate-crashed the electro party with their particular brand of teeth-clenching pop-rave antics. Since then, they've refined their sound somewhat, with 2008's Apocalypso delivering a nu-rave era blend of new wave posturing, synth-pop sheen and ass-kicking dancefloor oomph. Four years on, third album Pacifica sees their sound soften further. While there are still plenty of rave-influenced hooks and strobelight moments - see "Fall" and "The Fast Seconds" - there are far more examples of well-rounded, mature synth-pop. All, of course, are blessed with their peculiar sense of antipodean fun.

Review: Who remembers "Bubble Bath"? Well, you should because it was a synth pop anthem and we loved it. Two years on and Aussie trio The Swiss are back on Modular with "Double Or Nothing", accompanied by two remixes from the filter botherer Louis La Roche and Swiss artist Headman. Written in a hotel room directly after drummer Tony Mitolo came off stage at Glastonbury, the smell of adrenalin is obvious as "Double Or Nothing" bounces endlessly through piercing synth riffs and dramatic hooks - you could even say it's theatrical in its stage-like arrangement. Louis La Roche picks up on the disco vibe with melodies stretched, reverbed and warped to the nines. Second up, "Womanthem" and its classic bassline wraps itself around more swooning synths and cosmic bleeps and twirls. Headman adopts the happy go lucky vibe for his turn, firing his remix with an arp'd electro b-line and cutting claps to transcend "Womanthem" from flashing dancefloors to underground afters.

Review: Deluxe reissue of the glorious Innerspeaker from West Australian band Tame Impala's with the rich, earthy blend of psychedelia and bluesy rock of the eleven track album complemented by a bonus CD featuring remixes from Erol Alkan and Pilooski and tracks from long deleted single releases. In truth, Innerspeaker sounds like a love letter to 1969, but that's no bad thing; there's no dead wood whatsoever in the first eight tracks, with the extended solos and other self indulgent vices usually linked to psychedelic music eschewed in favour of catchy hooks. Mixed by Flaming Lips collaborator Dave Fridmann, tracks like "Desire Be, Desire Go" exude an instant familiarity, while "Lucidity" and "Solitude Is Bliss" offer the album's strongest lyrical moments. Their links to dance music are also apparent - and demonstrated fully on the second disc which not only features the aforementioned remixes along with efforts from Mickey Moonlight and fellow Perth raised production outfit Canyons but also the bands glorious cover of Blue Boy's "Remember Me".

Review: Australian act Tame Impala nailed their hazy, scuzzed out, psychedelic sound so succinctly on debut album Innerspeaker, the worry must be how they look to match or expand on it with the forthcoming new set Lonerism. On the basis of lead track "Elephant", their sound's development seems subtle in places and epic in others, with a richer texture at play throughout the stomping, woozy psyche rock groove and a wonderful organ lead deviation midway through which presumably is all the more intoxicating played live. The band have truly excelled in who they elect to rework "Elephant" too, with both old chums Canyons and the iconic Todd Rundgren offering distinct yet complementary revisions. The deliciously named "Woolly Mammoth Extension" from Canyons rewires the grubby analogue undercurrent to a cosmic groove that approaches infinity whilst acquiring near defeaning levels of reverb before dropping into the full vocal. Rundgren meanwhile adopts a more expansive opening before launching into a veritable juggernaut of heavily phased psychedelia that adopts the mantra "it's a journey, man" fully.

Review: Having delivered a debut album in 2010's Innerspeaker that remains rewarding to this day, the challenge for Australian trio Tame Impala would be how to improve on a near perfect sound without merely treading the same water. Lonerism achieves this with the sort of aplomb missing from many a difficult second album through subtle sonic nuances. The vintage delay laden, psychedelic approach remains very much in tact, but the band has now added more emphasis on synthesised textures to the melting pot. As ever front man Kevin Parker's woozy vocal drives matters forward throughout and if you were one of the many people that embraced their debut album, Lonerism will instantly appeal. Those unfamiliar with the band will also find much joy throughout.

Review: Van She are back! The Sydney electro pop outfit have a new album slated for release in July and here Aussie label Modular present the LP's title track along with three remixes. "Idea Of Happiness" is a bubbling stew of analogue bass, hazy guitar riffs and tumbling drums, which are brought into focus by Nick Routledge's distinctive croon that simply refuses to stop dripping with emotion. The A-Side also features a chunky, cut-up remix from Ed Banger stalwart SebastiAn, while Herve gets silly on his Room 1 tweak on the flip and the Whats So Not version rounds off proceedings by stripping the track to its bare bones for a catchy, Ibizan sunset jaunt.

Review: Van She seem to be happy chappies. The Aussie combo have always delivered the sort of shimmering power-pop that bears a mile-wide grin, but they seem even cheerier than usual on Idea Of Happiness, their sophomore set. For those who like their music to be vivid and kaleidoscopic, this is undoubtedly a good thing. While they've retained the bold hooks and catchy vocals that's characterized their work to date, there's an intricacy to the music - and particularly the melodies - previously missing. The result is a set full of dayglo pop songs that's as joyous and embracing as a naked jog around Botany Bay.
