This Is A Shout Going Out
Cat: MC 054. Rel: 20 Jul 22
  1. This Is A Shout Going Out (Into The Future mix) (8:33)
  2. This Is A Shout Going Out (Jim Hopkins Sliced & Spliced) (4:32)
  3. Central Fire (Yes People It's Time: part 1 & 2) (12:59)
Review: Way back in 1994, two San Francisco scene sorts - Courtney Nielsen and DJ Spun - joined forces for a debut single as Central Fire. Heavily influenced by sub-heavy UK breakbeat but blessed with the kind of psychedelic acid lines and trippy electronics that were then a big part of the Bay Area free party sound, 'This Is Going Out' has become something of a cult classic in the years since. This much-needed Mint Condition reissue boasts all three tracks from the original EP: the pleasingly rolling and dubby 'Into The Future' and marginally chunkier Jim Hopkins' mixes of 'This is a Shout Going Out', and the freewheeling dub disco-goes-house heaviness of 'Central Fire (Yes People's It's Time: part 1 & 2)'.

How To Stay Alive
Cat: MC 053. Rel: 07 Apr 22
  1. How To Stay Alive (5:42)
  2. Kick The Break In (8:43)
Review: Mint Condition has so far proved adept at licensing and reissuing high-grade fare from the 1990s that many people may have missed out on first time around. This single from Dylan Beale, one of two he released as Eze-Ozo back in 1991, is undoubtedly essential: a two-track bleep & breaks excursion that strikes a perfect balance between the alien, sci-fi sounding weight of purist bleep and the rolling energy of early breakbeat hardcore. 'How To Stay Alive' is shuffling, crunchy and sub-heavy, with nods to trippy US deep house as well as early Warp releases, while 'Kick The Break In' comes from the same sonic space as the contemporaneous Original Clique and Ubik releases.

White Powder EP
Cat: MC 055. Rel: 28 Jul 22
Deep House
  1. Heart (6:40)
  2. $10 (7:03)
  3. Giving Love (8:24)
  4. Powder Chords (6:04)
Review: Mint Condition, as you probably know if you are reading this, deals in reissuing classic tech house cuts. It has raced ahead in its mission and is now up to a 55th EP. This one brings back Presence's White Powder EP. 'Heart' opens up with dark but well swung drums overlaid with diva vocals while '$10' is a frazzled, slapping cut with bubbling basslines from the 90s. 'Power Chords' is a loved up dee house cut with echoing pads and cavernous grooves and 'Giving Love' is a jumbled of tribal hits and woodpecker bass.

Inverted Frequencies
Cat: MC 052. Rel: 22 Nov 21
Deep House
  1. Inverted Frequencies (Eerie Horn mix) (6:21)
  2. Inverted Frequencies (Inverted mix) (6:56)
  3. Inverted Frequencies (Xtrovert mix) (10:53)
Review: Scott James and Chris Hayne presented the second instalment of their Sound Virus project 'Inverted Frequencies' in limited quantities on their own Lux Recordings label back in 1995 and has become highly sought after since. The meditative acid house shuffle of The Eerie Horn mix leads into the dubby, heads down hypnotism of the Inverted mix and there's the zeitgeist of that classic Stateside house sound of the early '90s on The Xtrovert mix over on the flip.
