We're Two Fools In Love (2:51)
Don't Worry About The Jones (3:55)
Review: Dom Williams is doing a great job of showcasing overlooked soul, funk and disco gems on his Acid Jazz Records offshoot Miles Away Records. These two tracks from obscure act Dyson's Faces - an ever-changing collective of studio musicians helmed by Ronnie Dyson's younger brother, Clifton - are a fantastic example. Both were recorded and first released in 1975 on the band's self-titled debut album and are superb examples of what would have once been called "modern soul". 'We're Two Fools In Love' is a soaring, Philadelphia Soul style dancefloor anthem in the making, while 'Don't Worry About The Jones' is a wonderfully syrupy-sweet slow jam whose lyrics will resonate with many.

One More Chance Lord

One More Chance Lord (3:25)
My Greatest Desire (4:08)
Review: Delores Fuller's single 'One More Chance Lord' is a real beauty that came to the Miles Away label's ears via a friendly recommendation. Gospel, modern soul and disco all get melted into a gorgeous new sound that has stunning, buttery but pained vocals up top and a soothing rhythm section making you want to dance. On the flip is 'My Greatest Desire', a ballad that again puts Delores' vocal talents front and centre over stripped back piano. The single was originally released in 1983 on Intro Records and is reissued here with full blessings

Slow Down (4:14)
I Deserve A Little Bit More (4:34)
Review: Miles Away are always on a mission to unearth new old gems. Their tireless work now gives rise to a pair of big hitters from The Grooms, a band who only ever flashed this one single back in the 1970s. It came originally on a little-known label in Norfolk, VA headed up by Noah H. Biggs, called Shiptown, and was during the peak era of Motown, Atlantic and Stax. Thankfully the label boss saw its potential. The super charged 'Slow Down' on the A side is wrought with emotion and on the reverse is a more moody and heartfelt ballad called 'I Deserve A Little Bit More.'

You Are Somebody

You Are Somebody (3:42)
For The Children (4:29)
Review: Howard Lemon Singers was an incredible group back in the 70s. They released a very rare and much sought-after album Seasons released on the legendary TK Records subsidiary Gospel Roots back in '77 and this 7" offers up two of the best tracks from it. Both tracks bring good vibes and positive sentiments with real harmony found between secular and spiritual sounds. The group managed to modernize the gospel sound as they went with 'You Are Somebody' being a modern soul heater that will have heart, body and mind in a spin. 'For The Children' then slows down and brings lush 'wacka-wacka' guitar under aching vocals.

Dancing Close

Dancing Close (4:01)
Back Home Again (3:51)
Review: The excellent Miles Away label once again does a fine job in transporting us exactly that distance away from our own reality with this latest slice of 7" soul heaven. Little is known about Rita, who recorded these - her only singles - back in the 1970s. Joyce's vocals on 'Dancing Close' are subtle but stirring, while the tight, percolating drum grooves and funky riffs sooth the whole experience. On the flip is the more upbeat 'Back Home Again,' a less sentimental tune and one with a more strident groove that is a perfect vehicle for Joyce's sweet sweet vocals.

You're The Best (4:05)
Review: Soul, disco, funk and boogie all combine to superb effect here on this new one from Savoir Faire on Miles Away. The A-side is a glorious two-stepper with Cassandra Wright's next-level vocals shining bright up top next to a deeper male vocal as the drums and funky bass unravel on 'Holding On.' Flip it over and the pace picks up but the soul remains high on 'You're The Best' which has a more yearning vibe and hip swinging claps next to lush strings and call and repose vocals over a squelchy boogie bassline. Super stuff.

Super Star

Super Star (2:54)
Super Star (part 2) (3:50)
Review: Miles Away Records are proud to introduce their latest single to land on the label: the cosmic soul gem 'Super Star' by Ruth Waters and the State Of Mind Show Band. Ruth 'Silky' Waters was best known for her two disco-infused albums Never Gonna Be The Same and Out In The Open, produced by the late, great John Davis. 'Super Star', however, was released on the tiny independent KMBA Recordings label in the late 1970s, and draws on the twin wells of modern soul and gospel, lending both a touch of cosmic goodness. On the flip, there's 'Super Star Pt.2', which plunges deeper into the cosmic essence of the track by way of both extended guitar and synth solos; both tracks are stupendios in their own rights, making this a hotly versatile release for a far-and-wide DJ demographic.
