Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

If you're even close to 35-years-old, the initialisation "MTV" and the word "Unplugged" likely conjures images of peak-hype Nirvana, arguably the most defining and revered of all this format's many moments. Nevertheless, Courtney Barnett's electric-free contribution to the series, recorded live in Melbourne, may well be the best conceived in the episodic series. Rather than going down the usual "Unplugged" route - hits, covers of classics and a few from the new album, sans power chords, - Barnett confirms what those paying close attention have always known to be true. Yes, she's an inspiring and inspired artist, as work like "Nameless, Faceless" shows (here turned into a duet even more resonant and chilling than the original). But she's also a community leader, a gifted collaborator who has nurtured peers - and with half this album reimagining others, she's clearly still determined to let them shine.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett returns with a third solo album that makes another assured leap forwards. The artist here sounds truly relaxed and comfortable in herself and with her art. She serves up an exquisite world of sound that is intimate and inviting thanks to the fine production work from Stella Mozgawa, who is known for her work with Warpaint, Sharon Van Etten and Kurt Vile. This most intimate and personal work has alluring groovers like 'Before You Gotta Go' and the optimistic 'Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To.' It arrives on a lovely limited gatefold blue vinyl with a spot-varnished sleeve.

Review: They may not be the most iconic Kurt and Courtney duo in history, but they're a pairing that definitely works well. 'Lotta Sea Lice' meets somewhere in between Kurt Vile's spiritual slacker country & western, and Courtney Barnett's self-effacing indie rock. Vile's Pennsylvanian drawl and Barnett's Aussie spoken-word blend perfectly, seeming as though they're bouncing off each other's natural relaxed coolness. The duo trade verses, lines and even each other's songs, with a cover 'Out Of The Woodwork' from Barnett's 2013 double EP, and Barnett offering a stripped back solo version of Kurt Vile's 'Peeping Tomboy'. Interestingly, they cover each other so well that either party could have written the original. In this way, this collaboration makes so much sense that, hopefully, it won't be limited to one album together.

Review: Sometimes when you feel down all you really need is to dive into the strange, beautiful and playful world of CocoRosie. Those unfamiliar with the pair might be disappointed at our inability to signpost comparable acts, but trust us when we say their combination of electronic pop, blues, trip hop and - wait for it - operatics beguiles and captivates in equal measure. A sonic realm where things might feel uneasy for a second before the cumulative elements are shown to marry so well. In many ways, "Put The Shine On" is their most chart-friendly offering to date, but that might suggest a watering down of their quirks and oddness. Nothing could be further from the truth, but nonetheless tracks such as "Restless" should be destined for significant radio play, and "Lamb & The Wolf / Slow Down Sun Down" is universally adorable stuff.

Review: In recent years, plenty of impressive bands have emerged from Australia's healthy indie-dance scene. Jagwar Ma are the latest to make waves far beyond Bondi beach. Howlin, their debut album, is arguably more 'indie' than dance, delivering fuzzy guitars, distant vocals and post-punk attitudes by the bucketload. Yet there's more than a nod towards the dancefloor, with tracks like "Exercise" (vintage Stone Roses meets piano house in 1989), "Uncertainty" (pleasingly stylish synth-pop) and "Four" (sweaty house) perfectly complimenting the more traditional tracks. There's also a hint of '60s psychedelia about a number of the tracks, with The Byrds-on-pills vibes of "Let Her Go" standing out. Impressive stuff.

Review: This Australian and now London-dwelling three-piece made their name by balancing out their psychedelic explorations with a somewhat Madchester-derived pop sensibility, and this second album sees them throwing this delicate balance into orbit by effectively offering more of everything - the sonic textures here are more adventurous, the hallucinogenic swirls of sound more lustrous, yet the choruses are as indelible and infectious as ever. A party album with a 'Screamadelica'-esque experimental edge, 'Every Now And Then' makes these three space cadets sound like genuine contenders.
