Disco/Nu-Disco
Szlugi (7:15)
Polonez (6:54)
Flauta (13:46)
Review: Without attracting much hype, Das Komplex was responsible for some of the most enjoyable, dub-fuelled disco and Balearic releases of 2016. He's started 2017 in pretty confident fashion, too, delivering more fine fare via Father & Son Records & Tapes, People Must Jam and, now, Love On The Rocks. Interesting, this outing is a little bolder, woozier and weirder than some outings, though his love of reverb and delay remains a constant. "Szlugi" is an eccentric fusion of clattering drum machine percussion, trippy synthesizer motifs and lo-fi electronics, while "Polenz" effortlessly joins the dots between cosmic disco, jazz-funk and sample-heavy deep house. Best of all, though, is epic flipside "Flauta", a musically rich, Clavinet-heavy dub disco affair that rises and falls for 13 spellbinding minutes.

My Kinda Future (11:22)
My Kinda Future (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) (12:19)
Review: Having previously appeared on Voyeurhythm under his given name, Elliot Thomas has recently taken to using the Etbonz alias. This 12" for Love on the Rocks comes hot on the heels of a single-sided outing on the hyped Bahnsteig23 imprint. "My Kind of Future" is a pleasingly trippy, forthright affair, which builds from a swirling start into a muscular, Italo-disco inspired dancefloor smasher. Prins Thomas provides a trademark Diskomiks on the flip, pushing the track further towards rubbery dub disco territory. While still formidably dancefloor friendly, it boasts the Norwegian's usual trippy effects and trademark rhythmic swing.

Fountain Gate (7:15)
Dream Machine (Utopia dub) (6:25)
St. Elmo's Theme (6:32)
Review: Berlin's Paramida may have wound up her monthly party at Salon zur wilde Renate this month but her Love on The Rocks imprint still runs strong. After a great release by Indonesia's Jonathan Kusuma she recruits Melbourne's Fantastic Man for this release. "Fountain Gate" is a good effort with its snarling 303 lead backed by a tough groove. On the flip there's the dreamy "Dream Machine (Utopia Dub)" it's on more of the Balearic tip with its entrancing bongo drums and dreamy xylophone supporting spangling '80s synths. It's this particular version which warranted a re-issue so check it out.

Fountain Gate (7:13)
Dream Machine (6:12)
St Elmo's Theme (6:32)
Review: Having made his name making decent deep house, Fantastic Man appears to be following in the footsteps of fellow Melbourne export Tornado Wallace and pursuing a far more Balearic, kaleidoscopic sound. Certainly, Dream Machine is arguably his strongest EP to date, delivering a trio of cuts that expertly fuse Italo, Scandolearic and new age influences. There's naturally much to admire, from the lilting melodies, tactile proto-house rhythms, Italo attitude and bubbling synth bass of "Fountain Gate", to the marimba-clad breeziness and chiming tunefulness of "St Elmo's (Theme)". The title track, a study in early deep house melodiousness, is also pretty impressive.

Shakuhachi (5:37)
Shakuhachi (Tokyo Black Star Atlantis remix) (6:06)
Shakuhachi (Al Kassian remix) (8:15)
Review: Ghost Vision are comprised of Thomas Gandey (aka Cagedbaby) and Danny McLewin (half of Psychemagik). Story has it that Love On The Rocks boss Paramida got wind of these guys via Los Angeles scene stalwart Dirty Dave. They had produced a wealth of material forthcoming on Cologne's Kompakt and one of the results of these efforts was the balearic boogie down sexiness of "Shakuhachi" - which receives a couple of wicked remixes too. Alex From Tokyo's Tokyo Black Star Atlantis remix is a respectful rendition that gives the track more dancefloor dynamics, by way of its four to the floor groove. This is followed by a version from Planet Sundae's Al Kassian, who reinterprets it as an evocative acid odyssey that is absolutely sublime.

Oolong Trance (club mix) (7:39)
Oolong Trance (Paradise mix) (7:38)
Oolong Trance (Telephones ADKS remix) (9:40)
Review: Two years on from his much-admired debut EP for Utopia Records, Planet Sundae co-founder Alex Kassian returns to action via a pleasingly colourful outing on Pasiphae's saucer-eyed Love On The Rocks label. In its original form, "Oolong Trance" lives up to its name, with Kassian wrapping psy-trance style acid motifs, tactile chords and restless organ stabs around a densely layered, tropical house groove. Even more celebratory and mind-altering is the accompanying "Paradise Mix" - a trance-inducing affair peppered with the kind of bold piano stabs and trippy electronic lead lines that recall early '90s sunrise parties. Arguably even better is Telephones' kaleidoscopic flipside remix, which in typical fashion turns Kassian's cut into a Balearic-minded chunk of peak-time dancefloor colour.

Looki (Fantastic Man remix)
Looki (Africaine 808 live dub)
Review: Brought to wider attention on a fine (Emotional) Especial record last year, Romanian duo Khidja return here with a equally interesting record for Love On The Rocks. Paramida's label dressed to impress in its first year of business thanks to records from Mass Pagliara, Ess O Ess, and Telephones and Khidja make worthy additions with Looki. The original version is as transcendental as anything Khidja have previously put their name to and it's complemented well by a trio of superb remixes from Lauer, Fantastic Man, and Africaine 808. Of this triplet, it's Phillip Lauer who shines the brightest on a remix that positively drips with emotion.

A Stein’s Way (8:14)
Underpass (7:55)
Review: Following up releases by Massimiliano Pagliara and Telephones, Berlin's Paramida continues on a winning streak with her Love On The Rocks imprint. This time recruiting Indonesian Jonatahn Kusuma (previously seen on labels like I'm A Cliche) who steps up with two killer tracks of the Balearic kind. "A Steins Way" features an infectious synth bass melody backed by emotive strings, FX of the spacey kind and white noise; all that you need! On the flip is "Underpass' with its low slung groove. A deep funky bassline and some spacey arpeggios are once again all you need to get any party started. Tip!

Key Jam A.C.I.D (9:01)
Review: For the latest missive on her ever-impressive Love On The Rocks imprint, Paramida has turned to Detroiter Sharif Laffrey, whose been a little quiet since delivering some killer acid business on Discos Capablanca in 2013. "Key Jam (A.C.I.D)" is something of a sleazy, late night treat, with Laffrey expertly combining proto-house style drums and bass, with wonky, pitched-down vocal samples, freestyle synth refrains, the alien pulse of electro, and - of course - some ragged acid lines. There's a lot going on across the nine-minutes, but Laffrey's focus on the power of the groove remains in tact throughout.

Pony J.A.M (9:48)
Pony Roger (6:38)
Review: Paramida's Love On The Rocks imprint is in great form. Following up Indonesian Jonathan Kusuma's brilliant Underpass EP is Detroit's Sharif Laffrey with the Pony EP and following up that wicked acid anthem "Turn It Up" on Discos Capablanca last year. On the A side we've got the stomping and tunnelling peak time acid house of "Pony J.A.M." which is sure to get the kids trancing out retro-style. That sample of "It's A Fine Day" in the middle was a nice touch! On the flip "Pony Roger" is another, purely belter version of the track, almost bordering on early 90's techno by the likes of Final Cut or Cybersonik, but hey.. he's from The D right?

The Forbidden Dance (Original Version) (6:36)
The Forbidden Dance (Rhumba version) (7:09)
Review: Last time out, Longhair popped up on Claptrap with a fine EP that effortlessly joined the dots between turn-of-the-'90s dream house, breakbeat-driven deep house and colourful nu-disco. They've slightly switched focus on this Love On The Rocks label debut, adding big rays of sweltering Balearic sunshine to their usual warming and kaleidoscopic sound palette. In its original form, "The Forbidden Dance" brilliantly re-purposes the melody from a familiar old Mediterranean instrumental number (you'll recognise it when you hear it), re-playing it on sparkling synthesizer settings and layering it atop a tactile deep house groove awash with vibrant nu-disco sounds. Arguably even better is the almost beat-free flipside "Rhumba Mix", which reminded us of those bonus "ambient house" versions you used to get on Italian dream house EPs.

Beyong Katovl (Pepsi edit) (5:30)
Ms Bombastic (Pepsi edit) (7:43)
Review: It's been some two years since Paramida established Love On The Rocks. In that time, the label has put out some memorable material, including essential 12" singles from Telephones, Khidja and Fantastic Man. The time seems right, then, for Paramida to step up and deliver her first EP for the label. Tehran Bomb also marks the start of a new, occasional re-edit series. She begins with the intoxicating late night throb of "Beyond Katovl", where fluttering vocal samples and psychedelic electronics ride a bombastic, high-energy groove. It's a muscular affair, all told, but strangely intoxicating. Flipside "Ms Bombastic" sees Paramida reworking an early house workout, cleverly emphasizing the original track's surging percussion and killer bassline.

Review: Paramida has been a fixture of the Berlin scene for a long time, working behind the counter at Oye Records and more recently earning a residency at Panorama Bar while taking her impeccable DJ skills further afield too. Now she's stepping into the arena of production with a debut release on Love On The Rocks. The label should help hint towards to vibe - uptempo electronic house cuts with a 90s tint and a little of the transcendental magic you might hear in an Eris Drew set. It's empowering, fun and not a little bit wiggy, and it's no surprise to find Eris Drew and Octo Octa lending their talents to a remix of lead track 'Dream Ritual', with Youandewan following suit on the flipside cut 'French House 2000'.

Review: For a long time, Paramida has arguably been Berlin's finest exponent of wavy, hallucinatory, post-Balearic nu-disco. There's always been a little more to her output than that, of course, with dreamy chords, ambient techno-influenced electronics and trance-inducing melodic motifs being a constant. Those elements come to the fore on Moonrise VII, a dancefloor focused, saucer-eyed affair that sounds like it was designed to be listened to while heavily under the influence of all manner of specialist substances. Paramida first opts to wrap a driving, bass-heavy turn-of-the-90s house groove in trippy acid lines and flotation tank melodies on 'Sailor Moon House', before channelling the spirit of the Orb circa 'Assassin' on the pretty-but-intense 'Space Ride'.'3.33', meanwhile, is a bongo and Tabla-rich chunk of horizontal ambient house loveliness.

Review: If you name yourself after the effects of a psychedelic drug there won't be many prizes for guessing the sort of sounds you serve up. And so it was that in 1993, Peyote Dreams served up an obscure psychedelic proto-trance cut on Rhythm Design that was remixed a year later by Justin Drake and Quinn Whalley aka Slack. Their mix is presented here in its original form as well as with new interpretations by Roza Terenzi who goes slow, spaced out and drama on her version, and last of all Alex Kassian keeps it uptempo and driving but awash with gorgeous pads.

Review: Berlin-based Norwegian producer Henning Severud is in the midst of a fine run of releases as Telephones right now with his debut on Running Back proving to be one of the label's most loved platters in some time (this is no mean feat it should be said). His latest appearance is on Paramida's Love On The Rocks imprint, itself a label that cant help but impress so far this year and Lotusland makes for a fine addition. Telephones offers up Sunset and Sunrise versions of the track and both feature sumptuous usage of melodies and early '90s NYC flavour embellished with a hint of uplifting European euphoria. It's likely you'll be hearing both versions for as long as the sun keeps shining this summer and they are complemented by remixes from Discodromo and Gatto Fritto with the latter a quite mind bending Electro Boogie workout.
