Review: Karen Dalton was an American folk singer linked to the Greenwich Village set in the 60s. She might not have received the widespread recognition of some of her peers, but she left a mark for those who know with the spectacular In My Own Time. Her cracked mid-range vocal delivery was a vital part of her charm, floating somewhere between tender and tough, and backed up with an appropriately stirring yet gritty ensemble of electric guitar, winsome violin and shaky organ. Toasting 50 years since its original release, Light In The Attic present the album in all its glory - a dusky, hard-bitten slice of downhome country blues from a staggering talent.

Review: There's no two ways about it: this is a stunning box set. Celebrating the short-lived Lee Hazlewood Industries label - a vehicle for songs and albums written and produced by moustache-sporting Easy Listening king Lee Hazelwood between 1966 and 1971 - There's A Dream I've Been Saving is scarily authoritative, and comes complete with a wealth of previous unheard and unseen material. Amongst the gems are four CDs featuring highlights from the label (not to mention previously unheard gems), a DVD of the previously unseen Cowboy In Sweden movie (starring, of course, Hazelwood himself), a glossy 172-page hardback book, and data discs containing every single release from the label's archives. For fans, it's a veritable treasure trove of little-known Hazelwood highlights.

Review: We all may have wondered when we might hear something from Lou Reed's extensive archive of unreleased works. Now Laurie Anderson has partnered with Light In The Attic to begin the Lou Reed Archive series with this remarkable offering - a collection of raw demos recorded by Reed with his Velvet Underground bandmate John Cale. Amongst the tracks included are stripped back versions of 'I'm Waiting For The Man', 'Pale Blue Eyes' and 'Heroin' which are surely the earliest known takes of these eternally cherished songs. Remastered with care and released in tandem with the New York Library's exhibition of his works, this is a stunning, intimate document of one of the world's greatest songwriters. For the dedicated collectors, this deluxe edition comes with a bonus 7" and a 28-page book in a die-cut sleeve.

Review: Seattle label Light In The Attic Records is proud to present a reissue of material from Nancy Sinatra's most prolific period between 1965-1976, with 23 tracks including her revered collaborations with Lee Hazlewood. Sinatra's performance of 'These Boots Are Made for Walkin'' became her signature tune. The pair began a three year run of successful recordings, with 'Sugar Town,' 'Some Velvet Morning,', 'Summer Wine' as well as the James Bond theme 'You Only Live Twice' being just a few. She also worked with songwriter Mac Davis, producer Lenny Waronker and arranger/producer Billy Strange on the album.

Review: The Microcosm: Visionary Music Of Continental Europe, 1970-1986 presents works from 'cosmically-taped' artists; legends like Vangelis, Ash Ra Tempel, and Popol Vuh through to more obscure names in the form of Bernard Xolotl, Robert Julian Horky and Enno Velthuys. According to Washington State label Light In The Attic, the compilation aspires to present these these works of "ambient, new age, neuzeit, prog, krautrock, cosmic, holistic stuff, whatever one calls it - as a pulsating movement unto itself", and they've done a fine job of that when you hear how well curated this album really is. From major label recordings through to limited obscure cassette editions, it unearths some truly captivating and oddly inspiring gems from beatless electronic music's recent past.

Review: In the past, Memphis has enjoyed plenty of props for its STAX-era soul music, but little attention has been given to the city's output during the "modern soul" era of the late '70s and early 1980s. To put the record straight, Light In The Attic has gathered together 20 mostly obscure and hard to find gems from the previously overlooked scene. There's more highlights than it's possible to list in this review, but our current favourites include the synth-fired squelchiness of Tom Sanders' "I'll Get To That", the kaleidoscopic P-funk of Captain Fantastic and Starr Fleet's "Keep It To Yourself", and J-Phakta's seductive slow jam "Is It Love". This edition also comes with a bonus 7" of Mark Anthony's private press rarity "I'm Just A Boogie Roller".

Review: ***B-STOCK: Minor creasing on outer sleeve, also the record has very light surface marks, but otherwise in excellent working condition***

Now that's what we call an album title 2021. As the name implies, we're skirting the edges of 1980s Japanese pop, opting to explore the strange, sci-fi hued, traditionally rooted noises that weren't necessarily dominant in the Far East country at that time, but certainly found favour with more explorative listeners. And it's not hard to hear why.

Tracks like 'Days Man' by Yoshio Ojima could work well in a slo-mo house or electronica set today. While preceding effort 'Hikari No Ito Kin No Ito' from Mishio Ogawa is like a strangely innocent hybrid of lullaby and pop song. Elsewhere, the twinkling synths and wet snare hits of Naomi Asai's 'Yakan Hikou' further accentuate the surrealism running through so much of what is here. One for the trophy cabinet, collectors take note (and form a queue).

Review: As the third installment brings attention back on this crucial series, Light In The Attic are running a repress of their second voyage into the plentiful realm of Japanese city pop - another extended cruise through impossibly slick '70s and '80s groovers with that golden studio sound. There's sultry slinkers like Eiichi Ohtaki and sensual funk from Kimiko Kasai on "Vibration (Love Celebration)". Watch out for the heavy bass and subtle synth inflections of Yu Imai's incredible "Kindaichi Kosuke Nishi E Iku" and the impossibly catchy whistlealong 'Hot Sand' by Piper. It's not a competition, but if you crave that US AOR sound, it might just be that the Japanese did it better.

Review: Second time around for Light In The Attic's essential Pacific Breeze compilation, which arguably triggered the current obsession with vintage, post-boogie 'city pop' records from Japan. The compilation, which has now been fully remastered and comes pressed on vividly multicoloured wax, is a superb starting point for those with a passing interest in city pop and Japanese synth-pop of the late '70s and early '80s, but also boasts enough obscurities to please committed collectors too. Our favourites include the gently breezy disco of Tomoko Soroyo, the eyes-closed, solo-laden AOR of Minako Yoshida, the bonkers-but-brilliant jazz-funk of Izumi Kobayashi and the glossy, sunset synth-pop brilliance of Yasuko Agawa.
