Review: Congolese collective Les Mamans du Congo and French producer Rrobin are back with a follow-up to their acclaimed 2020 album. The project is focused around ancestral Kongo lullabies sung in Lari by the five 'Mamans', bringing deep-rooted tradition into the modern era by interplaying their singing, rapping and hand-played rhythms with Rrobin's dexterous production. Gladys Samba cuts a formidable figure as the lead figure in Les Mamans, and she sounds majestic throwing down on the likes of 'Futa Nfuka' atop low-slung drill backed up by a chorus of women. It's a vibrant continuation of Congolese heritage for the 21st Century, celebrating the insight of the past in order to look forwards.
